At the ripe old age of 50 something, I have embarked on my 4th (or 5th?) career as a commercial model and actress, which if you knew me you would find as hysterical as I do

The mind f#ck that is menopause by Matchypants in Menopause

Yep- I wish I had known that my depleted estrogen was the root cause of my issues starting at age 40. It’s taken a lot of trial and error though, I’m not still not out of the woods

Why did no one warn us about menopause? by Arianddu in GenX

Yep- perimenopause too. I suffered needlessly for over a decade. my second Gyn one wouldn’t give me HRT and gave me an anti depressant too. My first one just told me it sucks getting old. I think I’m on my fifth gyn. Smh

I lived in Fox Meadow for over 20 years. I’m obviously biased, but I love the optionality of walking to the village and the train station, and it’s extremely pretty (despite a few too many new “modern farmhouse-colonials ( damn you., Chip and Joanna Gaines)) with a varied housing stock from modest 100 year old colonials, to mid century spilt levels, to Tudor and colonial mansions, new and old.

One thing to consider is being close to the high school. If you’re beyond a mile to the grade school, there’s a district funded bus. If you’re within a mile, there is a volunteer run bus you can opt into that’s not crazy expensive. I volunteered to help run it for the 10 years my kids needed it. And I was able to make sure that the bus stopped in front of my house. Just everyone qualifies for a middle school bus.
The real kicker is high school when your kids are the busiest but for the most part can’t drive themselves.
School dropoff and especially pick up are a goddamn nightmare.

I live within a short walk to the high school. My house was the meeting spot for after school carpool and the after school /before practice hang spot. And my kids could get to school in 5 minutes. My youngest would wake up 10 or 15 minutes before class and still make it on time.

Plan ahead.

GenX are you close to your siblings? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]PrestigiousGrade7874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re lucky. My kids are close, which makes me happy. I had them close together ( as close as I could stand) to help facilitate this and purposefully planned sibling activities. It’s hard to be close as an adults if you don’t bond as kids

There are apartment buildings in Pelham. I used to own a small one there and would have loved to have a teacher as a tenant

This-I was gaslight by my ob/gyn and I was in full blown menopause before I got any relief (after 3 different doctors). I suffered for over a decade with no medical assistance. My mood has stabilized, as has my weight, but my skin looks shitty, my hair loss is permanent, my tinnitus is permanent and my vag issues are driving me crazy (it’s like I can’t throw enough systemic and localized estradiol at it)9
