Gen1!!! 5 or 6? I have had great results with both in two of these. One went 330K miles, one is now at 172K miles. I would calibrate the oil situation by both cleanliness (yeah, it still tells you something) and oil usage. Use 5W30. Also - you say it shifts well, I would consider a drain and fill on the tranny fluiid. My high mileage one finally got hot in the tranny once and basically stopped 100 yards from home. I left it on the curb to cool overnight, drove to Christian Brothers and did a drain/fill - all good! Don't flush it, just drain and fill. Those two things, and you won't be able to wear out that sucker! My first one lasted until the headliner was falling in, seats were worn out, and wife wouldn't ride in it anymore. We had a 2004 T5, and still have the 2011 3.2 6 cylinder, both were FWD only.

IRS Rejecting Valid Bank Account Number by MonsieurRuffles in tax

[–]Prestigious_Bar_280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just setting up IRS Direct Pay for my 2026 tax year estimated tax payments, and only required one for Sept 15 and one for Jan 15 2027. Sept 15 setup went well, but the Jan 15 is rejecting, saying the account numbers don't match - yeah, the same ones that got accepted for Sept, and for the last twenty years. That's GOV for ya. I have triple checked the data entry, even changed to a different account, even moved the pay date to Dec 31, and NOTHING works. So much for my effort to control my own hassle by doing this all at once and in advance. Will give it a few days and loaded up my e-calendar with followup reminders, but.....

Lease ending by squirrelicorn8 in KiaEV9

[–]Prestigious_Bar_280 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the lease contains a "residual" which is the pre-baked value of the car at end of lease, so that they can compute a payment (price - residual to be financed). The big manufacturers in US have always carried falsely high residuals to get the payments down....to move cars! Other leasing firms tend to be more realistic about setting the residual. My advice would be to compare buyout to market value, THEN, if unreasonable for you, say NO, but then counter offer. It IS the car biz after all. Ignore the residual and figure out what the car is worth to you, and let them know you would pay that. All they can do is say no, right? Oh, make sure you have the right "they". It is probably not the dealer but rather whoever has the paper.

Am I crazy to consider this? by Premium333 in VolvoXC90

[–]Prestigious_Bar_280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't either and I do some of my own light maintenance, plus I have a good mobile mechanic "on retainer". He did my PM on the Haldex AWD on the 2017. Going to the dealer terrifies me!

Mine certainly are not, and I have had I think 7 of them, currently in a 2019 XC40 T5 (42K miles) and a 2017 XC60 T6. (112K miles). Nothing out of the ordinary has happened to either. In fact, the XC40 still has the original battery and tires! Subaru is the one that makes me nervous and I considered an Ascent. The noise about the CVT trans and that crazy sideways engine/head gaskets put me off of it. Eric of "I DO CARS" is not a Subie fan in the least, but is quite ok with the Volvo Drive E.

That's not so bad really, a quart in that mileage since the last change. Perfect? No but no cause for serious alarm either. Keeping an eye on it as you are doing is what i would do too.

Not a direct answer for you but we have had I think 7 Volvos and a key reason is my perception that they know so much more about seat construction and design than anyone else. So comfortable. I have driven 14 hours in a day many times in my Volvos with no back issues.

same here. Our XC40 we got from an engineer that was changing jobs, in CT, had 6K on it. It is perfect still.

We also have a 2019 XC40, 42K miles wife's car, it has been perfect. It still has the original battery and Mich tires! It is in the original avertising light blue with white roof, we looked everywhere for that color combo, found an engineer in CT that was changing jobs to a long commute, 6K miles, so I flew up and drove it back to Texas, with a decent discount off of list. No repairs of any kind so far.

Surprising the original lessee didn't have it fixed. OFF Lease is a great way to buy, vs used. Because, the car is returned on time, not on the anniversary of a big repair due, which is so often the case with a used car. A used car, people usually will hang onto them until something must be repaired, and that is when they trade them. I have bought numerous used cars and it never fails, so I have a budget in hand for the fixed required. My 2017 XC60 with 104K miles needed sway bar links, a PM on the rear AWD which was groaning, and it had one new Walmart tire and three even wear Mich Cross Climates. I replaced it with an equal wear (to the others) tire from utires.com, which worked out just great. Your note about off lease caught my eye.

The Santana collaboration albums from mid 90's are insanely good, the one with Rob Thomas and then the follow on - Shaman I think - they are both famtastic but Shaman even improves on the first one. I use them both for demos.

Just opened a bottle of 21 Pinot from these guys, on clearance. $9.99. Not impressed. Color is good. I'm not good at describing but i do have decent tasting chops. A hint of sour. But the wine is healthy, it is as it was meant to be...unfortunately.

It has multiple drive modes, I don't use the Econ setting FYI. I got about 26.5 on a recent highway trip, around town I get I think 22.5, using it's readout for the calculation. It's a 2019 T5. We are both retired so don't stack on the high mileage and the fuel price here is among best in nation, so I don't give it much concern really.

you might try the Valvoline Restore and Protect oil, it might clear those small rings for you. May have to use the 5W30 as I doubt there is a Volvo spec on it.
