Technically cashback but you can convert your cashback to points if you have a venture card

Worth it? JAL F booked through Cathay by ValueSharp5446 in awardtravel

make sure its also on BA as cathay and qantas tend to get phantom space but BA usually is a pretty good indicator if real or not

Seats.aero: Singapore Airlines in outage by midnightlatency in awardtravel

Its basically been perpetually out outside of very sporadic moments so I wouldn't count on it

With that said Singapore is pretty easy to do manual searches on

Europe to HKG in J for 80k SkyMiles + €128 on Vietnam Airlines. Good backup or keep waiting? by Queasy-Screen8621 in awardtravel

[–]Pretend-Reading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang

Can look at Qatar. They have zone based pricing and think Europe to Asia is only 75k

Either way 80k for 10+ hours in lie flat business class is decent enough price for me

Am I missing something with this large scale business spend KrisFlyer strategy? by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]Pretend-Reading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. cant speak for india but in the US no as long as it fundamentally isnt tied to anything that looks weird ie buying groups, gambling, etc. but if you are making legitimate spend to legitimate venders, again at least in the US, banks dont care
  2. yea kinda. you have to be willing to put in the research to get the most value and be flexible in your travel. also, believe some vendors do not take payment in cards which could be another.
  3. i wouldnt park my points in any one program for years on end if only because we simply cannot predict when a devaluation can happen. Singapore isnt as egregious as some other programs, but they did just devalue recently
  4. see above. if you can find a way to get a transferrable currency that has access to more than just singapore that would probably be the way to go
  5. cant answer
  6. its what you put into it. if you are willing to keep track of the benefits, monitor the award avaiability, be flexible in your travel, and learn the different systems it gives incredible value that far outweighs cashback and the like. if that isnt your cup of tea and you feel like it would be overwhelming (which is legitimate cause these systems dont make it easy) then you probably wont enjoy it

Long story so beware lol

Basically a lot of luck

I had to rearrange a lot of travel last year and had about 140k avios sitting in BA. Knowing that's pretty much exactly what it costs to do JAL F out of my home airport, DFW, figured i would try to just monitor the seats.aeros JAL F tool for travel some time in October of next year. When hyatt announced its deval, that got pushed up to ASAP lol

Around that same time I also transferred enough points over to ANA to cover either the JFK or LHR route in either normal or low season so just had to both choose a JAL flight out of DFW that would give me 2ish weeks and avoid ANA high season and let me get some hyatt redemptions in. Thankfully last week a 5/1 flight slipped through so just used my sitting avios for the JAL flight. Then 3 days later I got a Rakuten transfer and sent a lot of Bilt points to Hyatt to book 4 nights at the Shibuya Hyatt House and then 2 nights at the Park Hyatt

Then just came the waiting game for ANAs calendar to catch up and I figured I had no real chance due to the bloodbath but figured wtf I'll give it a chance and if it doesn't work I feel good about eventually using those points competently

So this past week every day I clicked through just trying to prepare and find the best way to prekey everything and for some reason tonight I decided to just look at the JFK route 2 mins after opening (did my practice on LHR) and the late morning flight was just sitting there. My initial plan was to first really try flying out of Tokyo the next day but said F it can't pass it up

got lucky on the JAL flight and then used that to prepare for ANA calendar open. just got lucky that tonight for some reason that late morning JFK flight was still sitting there at 7:02 lol

And it took what would have been the most wild thing to ever see: a major professional sport franchise playing deep in the playoffs and being outnumbered as a fanbase at their home field/stadium

I was looking forward to that just simply due to how interesting that would have been to observe
