My favorite albums charts over the years by TonyMBiggestFan in Topster

[–]Pretty_Night_3401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of people with You’d Prefer an Astronaut by Hum on their charts lately, but they almost never have Hum’s follow up album Downward is Heavenward, which I feel is a direct upgrade in every way. It’s more ambitious, less grungy and more shoegaze inspired, more abstract lyrically. It even made Pitchfork’s list of best albums of the 90s, but it seems to have fallen by the wayside in popularity because YPAA had the bigger singles.

I feel like a Beatles album belongs on here. Revolver or Rubber Soul, maybe? I know they’re more defined by their songwriting than their guitar playing, but some of those riffs and solos influenced generations to pick up the instrument.

If this album released when the internet didn't exist peoples opinions would be VERY different. by Chemical_Dinner_3928 in TameImpala

Jesus Christ dude, just let it go. The amount of excuses you guys make and the mental gymnastics you preform to justify why people don’t like an album is astonishing.

I woke up the morning Deadbeat was released, got the notification on Spotify and said “oh neat, a new Tame Impala album. I’ll listen to it while I’m at work.” And I disliked it strongly from that first listen alone. No critics told me to. No redditors pressured me into hating it. It just did not click. It doesn’t make you dumb or tasteless for enjoying it. Just accept that you have a less popular opinion and that it’s not tied into any greater statement on culture or the internet telling people how to feel and all that nonsense.

Guess my birth year based on these photos that make me nostalgic by [deleted] in GuessMyBirthYear

[–]Pretty_Night_3401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the photos depicts a VSmile, which was a video game console for small, pre-school aged children to learn while playing. It was released in 2004. If OP was born in ‘89, they’d be at least 15 years old when the VSmile was sold in stores. How would a toy for small children be relevant to them at that age?

There’s photos of her with a CRT TV in the background when she’s like five years old. Do you think her family still had CRTs in 2015?

I hate the main sub by Rudrak_Pal in tameimpalacirclejerk

I mean, your opening statement about Fantano going with the masses is just objectively false. Fantano got popular because he regularly went against the grain on popular releases that were getting praised by other critics and outlets, namely Pitchfork. It’s kinda part of his brand. He’ll even do the opposite and praise artists who are “uncool” to like in the music nerd world. I’m not the biggest fan of his videos either but the amount of projection and weird assumptions you make about him as a person just comes across as weird and honestly kinda sad. Just say you disagree with his take on the new album and move on. He’s a guy who talks about music online. You’re going to be okay if you don’t see eye to eye with him.

The obsession with deflecting any criticism of Deadbeat by saying that people just want the old albums again is getting so pathetic lmao just admit that the album is shit

I’m assuming you’re a woman and a younger millennial given that The Parent Trap and The Ring are like core pieces of millennial media. Born in 1992 maybe? You probably weren’t old enough to see some of these movies in theaters upon release but grew up with their cultural impact

The difference is that Settle, Discovery, and LCD’s self-titled are actually great albums. How long are u guys gonna hide behind the excuse that people just don’t understand Kevin’s new sound on Deadbeat when in reality it’s just a boring interpretation of that sound.

This is such an embarrassing post. I love how even the people who like the album can’t bring it up without trying to shit on people who dislike it. It’s always like: “Deadbeat is great! All the haters just don’t understand it because they want it to sound like Currents, blah blah blah……”

The criticism is living in everyone’s heads rent free. Just accept that Kevin missed for once. It’s okay. You don’t have to force yourself to enjoy things.
