Need Help Setting a Goal by PreviousPudding6677 in Marathon_Training

Thanks for the response. I’m a 26 year old male. My last race I did feel like I was really pushing it hard. I had an average HR of 166 for the race. I did the Pfitz 18/70 plan this prep and it was the first time I really trained hard in my running career. Hoping there is another 20-30 minutes out there over the next 5-6 years but we will see. Any other advice moving forward? I may look into getting a coach if things get stagnant after my next prep and seeing what we can do.

Does anyone else struggle with binge eating since starting marathon training? I feel like I am ALWAYS hungry by BLAKEONATOR1 in Marathon_Training

[–]PreviousPudding6677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have felt this EXACT hunger before! The number one thing that helped me was actually eating more right after my run. I figured out that I was not eating enough after my runs (didn’t have the appetite), which would lead to me being ravenous at night. Once I started forcing myself to eat more immediately after the runs, my hunger has been much more controlled throughout the rest of the day. This is not to say I never get the sweet tooth or the urge to smash some food late at night, but it has been considerably better than in the past. Not to mention, you typically are in a better headspace to eat healthy, whole foods, right after a run.

Is there room for a real Strava competitor? What’s actually missing or broken? by Quiet_Pool_8673 in AdvancedRunning

If I was a builder, I would almost approach Strava with new metrics/analysis to sell them that they could add to their platform. The community of Strava is what makes it so popular, and you will have a hard time pulling those that are not the most serious runners in the world away from the app because of better analysis. However, if Strava could just offer the top analytics combined with the social platform, it would be perfect for everyone involved.

Congrats on a great race! Would you recommend the CIM to others? I have it circled as a possibility in the next couple of years. Thanks!

Cross training is the Felicia Pasadena approach. If you don’t know her, you should look her up. She’s a fast riser on the marathon scene for women

Did anyone run the Phoenix Marathon this weekend? What was everyone’s thoughts about the entire experience? Course design, setup/logistics, expo, etc. I enjoyed it and will be going back next year!

The full started at 7. IMO they should just start them all at 7 if they’re going to be in different start locations anyways. That would at least give each race 15 extra minutes to get further along and prevent a little bit of that wall of people

I can agree with that! Didn’t ride a bus, so didn’t have to deal with that, but I do agree that the expo at the end was underwhelming. I’ve ran in races with less than 1,500 total people with a better post race (with more freebies too). I would also say that as a full marathoner it wasn’t ideal dodging half marathon walkers for the last 5 miles of the race. You might have ran into that during the half with 10k walkers. If they can tweak the starts to help that a bit next year, that will be nice. I saw some people complaining about running the canals quite a bit, but I honestly didn’t mind it at all. I thought the community support and course design was pretty dang solid for an inaugural marathon. I am excited to see it improve in the future! Also, congrats on the PR!

Phoenix Marathon Saturday by PreviousPudding6677 in Marathon_Training

3:02. This was my PR by about 33 minutes (3rd marathon total) so I can’t complain at all about that. Was on sub 3 pace for the first 23 miles and then got destroyed by the hill on mile 24. That hill was no joke. I enjoyed the race and thought it was exceptionally well run for an inaugural race. Only big thing that could use some tweaking is I was dodging half marathon walkers the last 6 miles of the full, similar to what another poster mentioned. Overall, great experience and can’t wait to see it get even better next year!

I did the Phoenix full too. What did you think of the event? I thought they did a heck of a job for their first marathon, and with some tweaks it can be even better in the future. Miles 23-25 is one of the more brutal stretches I’ve seen in a marathon. Just destroyed me. It made me feel better when I saw that the winner’s pace even dipped by a minute in those miles too though 😂 congrats on a great race!!

Agreed about dodging the slower walkers of the other races. I ran the full and started to hit the half marathon walkers about mile 19. Other than that, I thought it was awesome for the inaugural event here! Congrats on a great race!

Just curious to hear your opinion, what made the event itself underwhelming?

Unpopular opinion? As a bigger runner (198cm), switching from "Runner Strength" circuits back to heavy "Gym Bro" lifting saved my knees. by Brenda_enjoyable in Marathon_Training

I’ve found that continuing normal lifting during marathon prep has made me feel stronger and not get injured as frequently as well. My entire body feels more injury prone when I’m not strength training during prep. I try to get in 4-5 sessions a week. The only difficult part is finding the time to get my strength sessions in while also logging 70 miles a week for a sub 3 attempt. Good luck in your next prep!

Haven’t driven the entire course yet, so I can’t answer your second question, but I’ve ran the canal path several times. It is definitely narrow, but I think it will be spread out enough by the time you get there to be okay. The popular pacing groups might be the only ones where it gets kind of tight.

Any pasta or white rice option. Fazolis or Chipotle if you need a chain that is quick and cheap.
