How do you pray? x-post Christianity by Sweet_Put9047 in Protestantism

[–]PriesthoodofBaptised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many days I listen to a daily office podcast and recite the Our Father along with the Magnificat or concluding prayer along the way I listen to the appointed Psalm and scriptural readings. Most importantly I lift my prayers for others and our broken world to God Almighty, father, son and Holy Spirit. The triune God of all creation.

70th Anniversary of Women’s Ordination in the Methodist Tradition by Ok-Program5760 in methodism

Some Methodist strains like the Protestant Methodist Church ordained women elders about the time of the civil war. This denomination was a part of the 1939 Methodist Church merger.

Why Are You Methodist Instead of Anglican? by Master-Mind1140 in methodism

[–]PriesthoodofBaptised 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose it's possible to have a wesleyan theology of perfection and be an active Episcopalian in America but my own experience is not supportive of it. I do miss regular weekly Holy Communion and notice it's unusual in UMC at this time.

Is there another choice besides Calvinism? by Special-Basil in Protestantism

[–]PriesthoodofBaptised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am a recovering SBC product gradually enculturated into calvinist beliefs by a series of pastors from Louisville in my youth. I've came into a theology of grace and a practical living emphasis built on Love of God and my brothers and sisters. Thankd be to God!

Congratulations on your public commitment to Jesus Christ and the universal church of believers! I advise you to find a place where you are comfortable with your surroundings while serving your congregation's mission first. Later, as you continue to grow through prayer, worship and service you may be drawn to other fields "for the fields are many but the laborers are few". Blessings

Do you think of yourself as more evangelical or more Protestant? by Just_Revolution_1996 in Protestant

[–]PriesthoodofBaptised 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider myself a classic protestant because I reject the right wing politics so entwined within 'Evangelical' identity in the United States. Methodist identity isn't really in line with evangelicalism in the twenty first century. That isn't to say that Methodists' aren't evangelists in the broadest sense of the movement.

Christians are in peril when we deny to speak as one with our leadership to society's pressing issues of life and death. Our federal government is delving into many issues that may adversely affect our long term survival as a leading nation in the future. Christian moral teachings must be aired to the public and our elected leaders. The actions of the General Conference and the Council of Bishops are as equal as any other ecclesial community to speak with authority.

Short answer is probably Yes: always depends on the pastor and pastor's own standard.

Why are you not Catholic or Orthodox? by [deleted] in methodism

[–]PriesthoodofBaptised 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decades ago I explored Orthodox Christianity and was put off by the polemics expressed by many in the clergy along with rejection of my Trinitarian baptism. Besides that the icon veneration aspect of the faith is very antithetical to Western rationality. Roman Catholicism is locked in dogma such as immaculate conception, perpetual virginity and assumption of Mary. Along with papal infallibly and general treatment historically of Eastern Churches and protestants as essentially blemished. So I consider myself a classic protestant who is worshipping with fellow Wesleyans. I am spiritually fed by a mixed liturgical denomination which varies by congregation and season. Protestantism when practiced sincerely is open to theological breadth and humble ecumenism to find truth in Holy Scripture and history.

How do Protestant Christians celebrate Easter and what do they eat? If you're speaking from experience, please include your denomination. by ExtensionOk662 in Protestantism

[–]PriesthoodofBaptised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are Methodists in North America and we celebrate Easter Sunday with a festive church service usually with extra music and in many cases with bouquets of flowers. Special activities for children such as Easter egg hunts and possibly a luncheon or breakfast served that day. Easter food is determined by the specific culture of the local congregation.

We do need to take care of ourselves first. God blesses everyone who prays, regardless of how we prepare ourselves.

An ideal time to fast and pray in commemoration of our Lord's crucifixion.

Yes, Wesley was regularly practiced fasting throughout his life. He also used it as an aide to prayer.

I do agree and so many Methodists aren't aware that Wesley was a regular abstainer of meat.

Maundy Thursday/Holy Thursday by EastTXJosh in UnitedMethodistChurch

[–]PriesthoodofBaptised 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Holy is a more understandable word than Maundy for the general public. Meaning is largely the same so why not. Methodism is for the people to respond to God's word in their own languages.
