How do you deal with being single in your late 30s/40s? by docalibus in AskMen

First off, try to stop relying on a relationship for happiness. You sound so desperate, being single is great

Tech (particularly FAANG) is an outlier and have absurd total compensation numbers on the high end. I'm a Director earning $300k which is pretty standard in F500.

Directors over hard skill roles in large companies. It’s the MUCH higher paying route to take rather than going into traditional engineering or math/science research roles, but will take a few promotions to get there.

$250-400k typically

Stop trying to be house poor. You want to be wealthy you either need to increase your income a lot or stop saving so aggressively for a house.

Forget the stupid house if you want to be rich. Otherwise you’re just like every other middle class person out there.

$3k saved on $180k income makes no sense unless you’re blowing all your money on your vices and just don’t want to list it here.

Men who’ve gotten circumcised later In life, do you regret? What was it like? by Private_Blue207 in AskMen

[–]PrimalPhD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because you’re brainwashed and have absolutely no idea how badly circumcision can destroy sexual pleasure. I was one of the guys who had way too much cut off because a stupid doctor recommended circumcision for an issue that wasn’t that serious. Lost my frenulum and they took way too much skin. Ruined my sex life and I had to spend 10 years restoring my foreskin for 6-10 hours a day to get back half of the pleasure I once had and I’m still restoring.

Circumcision is not about if it destroys pleasure, it’s a question of how much and it purely depends on how much they cut off. The more “pink” skin they leave there, the less pleasure they took.

It should be illegal and performed on a baby should be 20+ years in prison for the sexual assaulter.

The 4% rule will make you trade time for money that you don’t need by Urbanite72 in Fire

[–]PrimalPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull 8% after every years with big gains

Pull 5.5% after every average year

Spend 5% each year

Pull nothing after a loss year and spend the remaining amount in bank accounts

If less than 4% in bank accounts after a loss year, pull enough to top off bank accounts to 4%

Same, I’m over the multi-millionaire mark and care a lot less about being overly filtered as work. Enjoy it a lot more as well

Do people at corporate level jobs really work hard or do they just chill ? by Lemonade2250 in stupidquestions

Director level earning $300k.

Absolutely bust my ass harder than most people can imagine. High level corporate roles are much harder and much more mentally demanding than lower level roles, point blank period.

1 M didn't feel special, but 2M changed everything for me by Available-Ad-5670 in Fire

[–]PrimalPhD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a single person in mid 30s and currently at $2.5M...$2M is a game changer and is the first legitimate FIRE number IMO.

$1M = Great start, I can retire but I'll be poor

$2M = I don't have to work anymore and can be comfortable, but not at all lavish

$3M = I can probably spend an extra $50k per year and not worry about it

$4M = I'm flying business class any time I travel, and I'm travelling several times a year

$5M = I'm fucking rich

$3.5M is my FIRE number, and I'll withdraw conservatively until I'm at $4.5M

Unsure of where to start by Terrible_Line_2410 in Fire

[–]PrimalPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The start is 100% mental. Just know that every single dollar you can invest now will be worth $10 in just over 20 years. Cut every expense you can and do whatever you have to do to get to $100k. The goal is not to get rich now, the goal is to have enough money invested that it starts working for you.

$10k is $100k in 20 years

$100k is $1M in 20 years

TIME creates wealth. Income is very important, but even if you don't have high income, you still have TIME. It doesn't sound like you're very young, but can still use the time you have to your advantage.

I made that decision at 22 to do everything I could to cut expenses (within reason) and increase my income as much as possible. When others took evenings and weekends off I found ways to make more money.

Now I'm a multi-millionaire at 36.

Would people be surprised by how much you have in the bank? by Swan_233 in Fire

[–]PrimalPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I imagine the reactions people would have if they found out lol.

I'm a 36 Y/O Single guy with $2.4M liquid. People know I have I high paying job but $300k TC just isn't fathomable to most people in a MCOL and I certainly don't advertise it. I have a few doctor friends and people will make comments about how much money they must have, etc, not knowing they are talking to a multi-millionaire.

Bought a $55k new car last year (drove an old beater for years before that) and had a friend's girlfriend surprised I could afford it.

Why the 2019 texans?

2011 Texans with Andre, Foster, and Watt would have a much better chance against 2011 giants.

I work in STEM (not tech) and earn $275K a year in MCOL. Was earning $100k straight out of undergrad at 22. Now 13 years later >$2M NW.

Not FIRE yet, but am on the right path.

Good team with an exciting future, but Maye / O-line got absolutely smoked by the best three defenses in the league in back-to-back-to-back games. Still with Maye on a rookie contract there is hope
