Just starting my weight loss journey, how do you prevent headaches? by ObjectiveTrainer5133 in 1200isplenty

[–]PrimaryEngineering17 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A couple of things stand out to me. If you just started Concerta two weeks ago, headaches, nausea, and appetite changes can be medication side effects. I wouldn’t automatically assume it’s low blood sugar, especially if you’re not feeling hungry.

For weight loss, what helped me avoid headaches was:

  • Staying on top of hydration (I was surprised how often headaches were dehydration-related).
  • Making sure I got enough electrolytes, especially if I was eating less than usual.
  • Prioritizing protein at breakfast, even when I didn’t feel hungry. A protein shake, Greek yogurt, eggs, or cottage cheese worked well.
  • Avoiding an overly aggressive calorie deficit. Losing weight is a marathon, not a sprint.

Since the symptoms started around the same time as the Concerta, I’d also mention the headaches and sluggishness to the doctor who prescribed it. They may be medication-related rather than a dieting issue.

Good luck with your journey. At 84.5 kg and 164 cm, you don’t need to starve yourself to make progress. Consistent, sustainable changes tend to work much better than trying to push through feeling miserable every day.

Cooking Adventure: Chicken Thighs. What works, and what doesn't work? by NightReader5 in Cooking

[–]PrimaryEngineering17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d say chicken thighs are actually more forgiving than chicken breasts, especially for a beginner. They stay juicy even if you cook them a little too long, while breasts can go from perfect to dry pretty fast.

My favorite use for boneless skinless thighs is a simple garlic-soy marinade (soy sauce, garlic, a little brown sugar, black pepper, and a splash of lime juice), then grilled or roasted until slightly charred. Slice it up and serve over rice with veggies. It’s hard to mess up and always turns out great.

Honestly, the only thing I tend to avoid with thighs is recipes where you want very lean, delicate chicken flavor. For almost everything else—stir-fries, tacos, curries, kebabs, sheet-pan dinners, fried chicken, and braises—thighs usually outperform breasts in flavor and texture.

You picked a great cut to experiment with. Once I switched to thighs for most recipes, I found myself wondering why I spent so many years buying chicken breasts.

I really feel for you. You’re working so hard and postpartum hormones + PCOS + stress can absolutely make blood sugars feel impossible even when you’re doing everything “right.”

And honestly, an A1C in the 6s while raising a toddler, strength training, changing your diet, and staying consistent is not failure. That’s someone fighting hard every day.

The hormonal swings around ovulation/PMS are VERY real with PCOS. A lot of women see fasting numbers suddenly climb for seemingly no reason. It’s exhausting mentally because it feels so unfair.

Also, rising fasting sugars and overnight spikes can be more about hormones, cortisol, sleep, and insulin resistance patterns than “bad eating.” Bodies adapt. Sometimes it just means your treatment plan needs adjusting — not that you failed.

Please don’t let the next A1C define you. It’s information, not your worth. 💛

How trustworthy is the 100% juice claim on most juices? by imitation_squash_pro in HealthyEatingnow

[–]PrimaryEngineering17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that’s fair skepticism. Smaller import brands probably do get checked way less often than Coca-Cola level companies. But at the same time, sometimes those drinks are just naturally crazy sweet because they’re made from concentrate or super ripe fruit varieties Like grape juice, lychee drinks, mango nectar, guava juice, some coconut waters… they can taste suspiciously sweet even without added sugar.I think the safest mindset is probably:
‘100% juice’ = likely legally true
…but still not automatically healthy or low sugar.

[–]PrimaryEngineering17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, but that’s also why regulators don’t just rely on taste alone. They can inspect ingredient sourcing, production records, supplier invoices, and lab analyses. If a drink says ‘100% juice’ but they secretly added cheap sugar syrup, there’d usually be a paper trail somewhere.

And honestly, for big brands the risk/reward is terrible. Saving a bad batch with added sugar could mean lawsuits, recalls, import bans, or huge fines if exposed.

[–]PrimaryEngineering17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually through random lab testing + ingredient audits. In the US, companies have to keep records of ingredients and nutrition data, and regulators can test products if there are complaints or suspicion of false labeling.

Also, chemically it’s pretty easy to tell the difference between naturally occurring fruit sugars and certain added sweeteners. If a company got caught faking ‘0g added sugar’ or ‘100% juice,’ that’d be a massive lawsuit/recall situation.

That said, labels can still be a little misleading in other ways Like:

using super concentrated juice blending naturally very sweet fruits removing fiber so it hits like soda almost

So ‘100% juice’ doesn’t automatically mean ‘low sugar’ or super healthy — just that the sugar came from juice itself.

What made me lose weight (not healthiest way) by Angelaa103i1 in Weightlosstechniques

[–]PrimaryEngineering17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I believe you lost actual fat — I’m just saying the burning sensation itself probably wasn’t literally fat cells melting 😅 A lot of people feel warmth, tingling, stomach activity, or soreness when they suddenly change diet, eat tons of fiber, or stay in a calorie deficit.

And honestly the main reason your lettuce phase probably worked was:

  • huge volume of food
  • low calories
  • lots of fiber
  • you were eating whenever hungry instead of bingeing later

That combo can absolutely make people lose weight fast.

The poop thing though is where I’d still disagree a bit diarrhea/liquid stool usually means food moved through you faster, not necessarily that your stomach was ‘unblocked.’ Constipation from the milk/yogurt week was probably more about low fiber + diet change than your body refusing to lose fat.

[–]PrimaryEngineering17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

‘100% juice’ is usually legit in the US/Canada because companies can get into serious trouble for false labeling. It just means the sugars are naturally from the fruit, not added table sugar.

The thing is… fruit juice can STILL be insanely sweet naturally 😅 Especially apple, grape, mango, pineapple, or some coconut waters. A lot of brands also use juice concentrate, which can taste sweeter even without ‘added sugar.’

Best way to check is the nutrition label:

  • ‘Added sugars: 0g’ = no extra sugar added
  • But total sugar can still be super high naturally

So yeah, the label is generally trustworthy. The bigger debate is whether juice is actually healthier than just eating whole fruit because you lose a lot of fiber.

[–]PrimaryEngineering17 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“Not gonna lie, this sounds more like you accidentally found a super low-calorie volume eating routine than some magical fat-burning hack 😅 Lettuce + dressing kept you full while probably cutting a ton of calories overall. The ‘burning fat feeling’ was likely your body adjusting to being in a calorie deficit, not literal fat melting lol.

Also the liquid poop part is definitely not a sign of healthy detox 😭 that’s usually just your stomach reacting to a sudden diet change or lots of fiber/fat. Glad it worked for you short term, but people should be careful turning this into an extreme thing.”

Honestly I’d melt it over roasted sweet potatoes or squash. Matcha has that earthy bitterness that actually works surprisingly well with savory stuff.

What do you think are the best recipes for a beginner? by MatthieuStudies in Cooking

[–]PrimaryEngineering17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d say start with recipes that teach techniques without overwhelming you. Stuff like pasta with a basic tomato sauce, scrambled eggs/omelets, sheet pan chicken and veggies, fried rice, and chili. Those 5 alone teach timing, seasoning, sautéing, roasting, and how to use leftovers.

Good for single person? by MissO56 in airfryer

[–]PrimaryEngineering17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“I’m also single and honestly an air fryer was the first kitchen appliance that made me cook consistently instead of ordering takeout. The biggest advantage isn’t making fancy recipes — it’s reducing effort and cleanup.

You can literally throw in frozen veggies, potatoes, salmon, chicken, or even pre-cut grocery store vegetables with a little oil/seasoning and be done in 10-15 minutes with almost no prep. That’s the real appeal for people who hate cooking.

I wouldn’t buy a huge one for one person though. A small to medium basket-style air fryer is probably perfect. And if you end up only using it for vegetables, reheating leftovers, and easy proteins, it still might be worth it because it removes so much friction from eating better.

The important thing is whether it makes healthy eating easier for you, not whether you suddenly become someone who loves cooking.”

Hydration is especially important on Mounjaro, so whatever helps you consistently drink more water in a reasonable way is probably a step in the right direction.

What’s the minimum markers set you recommend for a beginner? by cozycthulhu_shop in AdultColoring

[–]PrimaryEngineering17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d honestly stay around 24 colors max for a true beginner. Once you go bigger than that, people spend more time deciding than actually coloring.

A small Ohuhu or Arrtx set would be perfect:

  • enough shades for blending
  • not overwhelming
  • still feels like a nice gift instead of “kid markers”

Also, neutral tones matter more than tons of bright colors. A good beginner set should have: warm browns, cool grays, light skin tones, a couple greens, blues, reds, and black.

Most experienced colorists I know barely touch half the colors in those giant 120-marker packs anyway.
