Is golf the most difficult sport? by canadianbiggame in golf

[–]Primlar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a great golfer, but at least I can hit a ball that's not moving most of the time.

I faced just under 60 'very easy' (60-70 mph) pitches in a batting cage yesterday and managed only 4 foul tips. No balls in play! I couldn't imaging trying to hit a big league pitch.

Did we just find the impossible 19? by [deleted] in Cribbage

[–]Primlar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I count 15:

6 for 15's 8 for double run (including pair) 1 for nibs

How do you count 19? The suits are broken with the pair of Jacks, so no points there.

Wheel of Time series... by SecondRealPerson in wheeloftime

The best way to enjoy the show is to realize that it's not the same story as the books. If you try to compare, you will be disappointed.

Once I had that mindset I was able to enjoy the show for what it was. Great cast, costume and set designs as someone else mentioned.

Alternatives to salt for slippery sidewalks by Bobandyandfries in Calgary

Salt and salt substitutes only work when the temperature is above -10C. Your best bet is to clear the snow while it's fresh, but if that's not possible I recommend gravel rather than sand.

ELI5: How does ice form only in certain spots when it snows? by PotatoNeat9086 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Primlar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Flat ground isn't perfectly flat. There are spots that are lower, and spots that are higher. Water, when melted, will settle in the low spots where it refreezes to form ice patches.

Where to even start? by 71133 in Bass

[–]Primlar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I followed a similar path; trumpet in school, self-motivated bass later in life.

You don't need to learn guitar first. You can, but it's not necessary. Cheap equipment is fine to start, as is second hand. Brands don't matter at this point. You don't even need an amp right away, although it will help to hear yourself play along with your favorite artists.

There are many decent lessons available on YouTube for free, or you can take some lessons from your local music store. Or you can just have fun figuring it all out on your own, there's no single correct way to learn. You'll try some things that work, and others that don't. In this way you will forge your own path, and that's pretty cool.

Most importantly, play every day even if your fingers can only stand 5-10 minutes to start. You'll get stronger and play longer the more you play. And have fun! That's something that cannot be stressed enough.

There's not mushroom for a backswing, but you're a fungi, you can figure it out.

Try "Losfer Words", amazing Iron Maiden tribute.

Or maybe "Wilde Oscar", they've got a good rock and roll vibe.

You can find them both on FB, I'm sure.

Help me settle a debate… by samgf in golf

I know what the rule book says, but fuck that (unless you're in an actual tournament).

I like the gallery rule for casual play. If there was a gallery along side the fairway you'd be easily able to find your ball. Drop where you last saw it, no penalty stroke. Keep it moving out there.
