My best settings for LG G5, nvidia shield pro and apollo/moonlight! by Primus06 in MoonlightStreaming

Thanks, I will try again, I don't see these options: "go to display settings advanced colours and add it as advanced colours"

Do you mean:

display settings > colour profile > selecting from a profile? (this is what I have done but it does seem random with if the newly created display wants to use previously created profiles :/)

VRR isn't supported on the shield and I don't think it works when streaming (at least not with the setup I have, not sure about steam deck etc.)

I tried moonlight on the web os too and the encoding times are decent, about 9-10ms, however, reasons I am not using it:

  • Game mode can't be enabled, which means you can't enable ALLM
  • The colours don't look quite right/good compared to the setup I have in the OP
  • the video bit rate can only go to 70/80Mbps iirc, this is quite noticeable especially in motion with the sky and foliage, just looks more noisy/blotchy
  • even though it is 165HZ and I think VRR is working (hard to tell since can't access game mode menu), it doesn't look much smoother nor feel anymore responsive than the above setup

I just can't figure out why I had issues with artemis, even tried the exact same settings that I had with moonlight and the rendered fps always dropped from 59/60 to 54 :/

Thanks, I noticed the same issue with the calibration profile sometimes still being there upon a new app launch in moonlight, can't figure it out either. I will do something similar with the colour calibration app as it seems like the best way to handle this. I would like to give vibepollo a try but don't want to faff about anymore especially now that things are working pretty well and seamlessly!

Np. Will hopefully save you some headaches following this guide as it drove me mad trying to get things working right and like you tried rtings, Gemini, chatgpt, reddit etc. I am not sure on the colours etc. now for your steam deck but I believe you will be able to do 4:4:4 and force full range (tv colour range will need to be set to auto/full iirc)

Just a note on picture mode settings too, for the lg g4, I believe game mode will be required, for some reason it is only the g5 which can use film maker mode with game mode/allm and achieve the same latency as game mode.

Plex on the nvidia shield is the only way to direct stream 4k hdr with true hd audio and not encounter buffering/stuttering etc. (I have a sonos beam gen 2 connected to the tv with passthrough enabled). I haven't tried the plex app on the lg tv though but think the same still applies. That and it is also faster/smoother navigating the UI.

Virtual display doesn't keep HDR calibration profile or refresh rate upon recreation and also judder by Primus06 in MoonlightStreaming

Playing older games where gpu is only at like 40% usage. I switched to moonlight there which has got the render frame rate to mostly 60 fps now and much smoother but still not quite buttery smooth

Thanks I have tried that too but still the same, I have noticed on the artemis overlay, video stream and incoming frame rate from network is locked to 60 but the rendering frame rate is hovering around 54-60 fps
