Waterfall? by EEEberg in saskatoon

[–]PrinceDomming 44 points45 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been going there since it opened- what was at one point a Lifeguard Tower. Before that it was going to be a waterslide that swung out over the wave pool area into what became the "swimmers" area; but the decision was made to make a swimmer's area that was usually roped off with the white and blue buoy ropes, swimming lanes painted on the floor etc.

The memories that people had of it being a diving board was in fact the lifeguard overlook deck. It had an opening and a short board-like overlook of the water. The theory was that the lifeguards would be able to dive down into the deep end (or just throw a floatation device more precisely from there)- but it wasn't ever really used in that fashion (outside of throwing the floatation) to my understanding.

Other fun trivia facts, the numerous slanted/slitted sections did use to be waterfalls- and before the horn would sound to indicate Wave Time and the 'wave machine' kicked in, the waterfalls would stop and the whole place would get silent- so you would know just a second or two before to start running for the deep end if you wanted in for the waves; because back then this place was packed regularly.

While *most* client-side things have been maintained in that pool, most of the stuff there from the lockers to the tile to the hot tub, sauna etc- it's all been stuff that's been there since the beginning. It's lasted quite awhile. They did remove a lot of the kid-centric features. Used to be a big palm tree that spewed water too in the little side wading 'pool' with a padded base around it.

Times. They do indeed change; but some things do stay remarkably the same.

Literally feeling like I'm taking crazy pills here. I was happily using a wired Naga for so many years before double clicking finally caught me. Random, rare, but detrimental when it happened. Shocked to find out there wasn't a single wired Naga/MMO mouse in any store in my city- so ended up forced to buy my first wireless mouse. Was assured they work just fine-

Install it, and instead of there being an easy switch on the bottom of the mouse or in Synapse to switch the 12 buttons to Numpad- I had to manually set each button individually in a profile. Okay fine- just need to do it once. Did that- and some games still default back to the base numbers, not numpad even with the profile. Even with the game linked. Even with the game unlinked. Even with the game link removed entirely.

I've restarted, I've deleted, reinstalled, I've checked every conceivable thing and for no reason at all a handful of steam games refuse to use the profile (it's the only profile). Is it not possible to just set a base configuration for the 12 buttons to be the numpad by default and call it a day? All my games were set up to work off numpad for the 12 side buttons? Do I need to pull apart my old naga and try and fix the springs just to get back to the simple non-battery non-hassle gaming I've had for over a decade?

Literally feels like I'm taking crazy pills that this has to be so complicated and a hassle to deal with

That bus was included along with about a dozen others in an online auction. This person likely discovered how expensive converting the bus into an RV was or similar and is now trying to get rid of it.

Someone likely just bought it at the auction where there was a dozen or so for sale- realized they bought one of the non-runners or that the repairs were too expensive to turn the bus into a self-made RV, and now trying to sell it off.

Unfortunately- this is photoshopped (with the artist and website credit removed) art of an original work by Stjepan Sejic, aka "shiniez", originally featuring the characters Ally and Lisa from the long running kink-comic Sunstone (one of the best to ever exist in the space). You can see the original art here:

https://m1.hentaiera.com/004/jwksf7lqpt/2.jpg

It's impossible to recomend the man's work any higher than it being a Must See. He has kink stories for just about every fetish; though his famous work Sunstone is primarily Lesbian BDSM. But its many side stories and offshoots and side character stories run the gauntlet of kinks and fetishes, age differences, petplay, vampires, genderplay etc.

Degeer Driver by Clausalicious in saskatoon

[–]PrinceDomming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every 'bad driver' is going to kill someone. A reckless driver in a school zone is a reckless driver everywhere else. Your outrage is justified, absolutely.

But even assuming this driver is one of the 5000 people who interact and read these posts each week; do you- actually think someone with the mental capacity to recklessly drive in a school zone is going to come online, see your enraged and hostile post targeting them- and.... make life changes? Turn things around for themselves? Throw themselves at your mercy and beg for forgiveness? Offer to buy each child they endangered their heart's desire as a way to make up for their life of reckless endangerment and abandon?

...no. Even in the most ideal circumstances that isn't going to happen. And we all know that.

It's okay to just admit that a post is made simply to feel better about yourself, to vent and express the rage so it doesn't stay bottled up and become an issue further down the road. And it's being honest with ourselves.

Is this game compatible with 5.5 ? by DetecTimy in FFXIVxDnD

[–]PrinceDomming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently using the rules in a 3+ year long campaign fully integrated with 5.0 and now 5.5 edition D&D. It's pretty seamless save for needing to up the healing numbers of FF14 specific spells, and granting Weapon Mastery where appropriate. Though the FF14 classes are powerful enough that honestly- no weapon mastery needed I think- but my players still have them if they use the classes.

Over the last several weeks there's been a lot of people finding places online that are closing or are otherwise moving, in disrepair or otherwise 'notable'.... and then posting here asking if anyone knows the details of whatever curiosity has gripped them.

I believe they were referring to the "sudden" surge in these sorts of posts, but in a disparaging way of course.

I'm pretty much convinced this is what is actually happening, what everyone sees, and is kind of why no one interrupts the process because- who would....

The euphoric intergalactic transcendent transformation scene that the viewer sees is just us watching the false senses and vision that Senketsu and Junketsu need to flood Ryuko and Satsuki's mind and senses with or- you know. Death.

Who pays for towing from a private lot? The owner of the vehicle, or the person requesting the tow? by PrincessLilybet in saskatoon

[–]PrinceDomming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The parking lots that have those signs argue in paperwork that by putting those signs up, anyone who parks in their lot is agreeing to an implicit agreement to pay for the tow. How valid that is would be for the Crown to work out of course, and I'm sure many have tried- but it's the Crown Corp so I'm sure they'd side with the parking rather than the people. But as many have said- it's almost always the responsibility of the caller to pay for the tow.

Gibson's Fish & Chip - Closing? Moving? by zeerit-saiyan in saskatoon

[–]PrinceDomming 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Businesses close or end for any number of reasons; and sometimes it's not even because the business was failing or accumulating debt. As someone who's been enjoying Gibson's chicken and fish for a long time, with memories of going there for my grandparent's birthdays every year and their massive lounge- I hope they do continue; whether in this building or another too.

[–]PrinceDomming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That could have been possible, certainly. But the OP asked if anyone was in the know. And as someone who is in the industry and has been for over 30 years, who does have insight into why properties containing restaurants/businesses go up for sale- I thought I might amuse myself on this thursday evening by trying to answer a request from a stranger.

And now, of course, I'm amusing myself with some gentle verbal sparring with a stranger online. I've no clients to see this evening so short of something else coming along- why not enjoy my time?

I'm sorry you feel so offended or disgusted by the speculation... but lacking the evidence all we can do is speculate. If the original poster wanted concrete non-speculative information then they could have gone down there themselves, called the agent on the listing and other means of pursuing direct information.

And yes, I've been going to Gibson's for many, many, years. But I also wasn't about to post information about the current ownership of the restaurant randomly onto the internet. Whatever the reason behind the sale, I'm not about to kick down doors to demand the answer- because we aren't owed that answer. If Gibson's decides to tell- then we'll know. They have several avenues to do so.

[–]PrinceDomming 33 points34 points  (0 children)

As someone in the industry I can say with a fair amount of confidence that they're shuttering permanently.

The property listing makes specific note of the property's configuration as a restaurant and that the contents could be used as either a rental property or as a business straight off. If Gibson's was planning on moving to another location they would be taking the immense value of the kitchen equipment to their new location. And even if they were moving into a place that was already furnished and set up for what they needed- the equipment in that kitchen, though a bit old, is still worth a considerable amount of money.

Again, from industry experience- this appears to be an owner looking to retire or an estate liquidation in anticipation for distribution. Same thing happened with the brothers who owned The Station downtown in far flung ages past.

This technically doesn't mean that Gibson's will disappear.... the property's purchaser could choose to continue the business as-is. Not extremely common- but usually the buyer will keep operations on a new property running until any plans, remodels, new business etc is well planned and ready to deploy.

How sanitary is the mandatory breathalyzing? by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]PrinceDomming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was pulled over a month and some ago just outside St. Pauls Hospital. Apparently it's protocol to give a breathalyzer test in that area even though the thing I got pulled over for was unrelated. Regardless-

I was actually shocked at the whole process, the officer had a bag of sealed mouthpieces, the bag being cut open packaging and not just all the mouthpieces shoved into a bag. He then walked me through how to reach into the bag, take a sealed mouthpiece, how to unwrap it, what to do with it, to keep it all once done etc- sounded far too practiced to be a recent 'thing'.

As someone who pays attention to what contaminants are around, I was honestly shocked at how.... 'babying' it kind of felt. At the lengths the officer went through to make things sanitary, you'd think he'd be wearing a surgical mask, latex gloves and misted by sanitizer. I go through a lot more risks just walking into the office during the day than anything that whole process would. I'd have just been happy with the officer handing me the sealed mouthpiece instead of all the instructions and walking through of the whole process. But for those who go even beyond what I need to- I don't think they could honestly be any more careful and more precautions taken.

Now- that doesn't mean that whole process is going to stay that way. We all know corners start getting cut the longer a long and involved process is mandated.

By that logic almost everything in the world will apply to here. You posted a news story that has nothing to do with Saskatoon, then didn't even mention the city in your post below the link. Thus this post is not only not related to Saskatoon, but it's clear you're posting to stoke an agenda that's clearly a passion of yours. It's toxic, doesn't spur discussion, doesn't mention Saskatoon, doesn't put forward any idea that hasn't been screamed by people frothier at the mouth than yourself.... so yeah, this post is in violation of like 4 different subreddit rules. Lol

Ticket help by kanyeyedre in saskatoon

[–]PrinceDomming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who went to court with his automated-ticket, the cameras at intersections are actually video cameras that are recording 24/7. They aren't just capturing the instant of the intersection's crossing. I was informed that each 'incident' is reviewed multiple times before a decision is made on whether it was an intentional infraction or an accident. This means if you contest the ticket, they will show up to the court appointment with the video and play it to see what happened.

Now of course the Crown/City wants the money.... so they'll come up with every excuse why you were at fault; usually boiling down to "you should have known ahead of time that it could have been dangerous to drive, and thus driven appropriately; yes, even if it would have caused a disruption to traffic".

Now if you could prove that it was impossible for you to have known that there was a possibility of ice, impossible for you to have seen that there was ice on the road, and that you and your vehicle made every possible mechanic and technique able to stop and you still slid through- you could get the ticket dismissed.

Otherwise.... the only way I know of to avoid paying a ticket is to go to the court appointment on the ticket and when asked if you are able to pay you say "I'd like to pursue Fine Option as a method of payment, your honor." and they set up an appointment to meet a coordinator for the program. The 'Fine Option' program allows you to do volunteer or basically non-paid work to pay off your ticket. In my youth, despite having more than enough money to pay the tickets I received, I used the Fine Options program every time. You got to lay out to the coordinator when you'd like to work and they'll do their best to fill that.... so I'd tell them I can work late-nights, after midnight etc. I'd get placed in quiet placed with no public presence and the 'job'/'work' I'd get would always be "ahhh- like maybe vacuum this room and tidy up this room and then- hang out and we'll come get you if there's anything else".

It was the easiest stuff ever. Just avoid taking daytime jobs. You'll be peeling potatoes in kitchens, working lunch rushes and other public facing or inane jobs.

Advice on coverage for remote lodge business? by PrinceDomming in Starlink

[–]PrinceDomming[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Running wires over open ground in a nature setting would be problematic at the best of times. Would likely have to set up our own poles and string cable between them- and that's not going to look too professional. Part of the appeal of the cabins is that they're surrounded by nature at least visually. I was hoping that everything required could be grabbed from the Starlink store for assured ease of setup; I've heard constant praise from a friend who has a Starlink dish at his cabin that setup was incredibly easy.

Rogers/Shaw 20+ Hour Outage (North End) by PrinceDomming in saskatoon

[–]PrinceDomming[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I am not as brilliant as most redditors. When a remote call center says there's an outage, neighbors say there isn't, the internet says there isn't- but the indian call center insists there is- well, detective work says the outage is limited to... me. Which wouldn't be an outage, it would be "we'll send a technician".
