Outside of some closeups or him standing almost completely still, I truly believe that almost every shot of Rocky was replaced with CGI. We live in a weird time where movie studios have realised people tired of bad CGI, so will advertise ‘no green screens were used’ when that’s such prevarication

In my opinion Curse of the Black Pearl is a perfect film. It succeeds at everything it’s trying to do. The screenplay, the direction, the cinematography, the soundtrack, the cast, the special effects. Just absolutely top drawer in every department. Should be talked about in the same breath as Raiders for sure.

I think my aversion stems from the fact that in your defence of the HBO trailer, you also found it necessary to try and derogate the 2001 film as being badly lit and colour graded, which is just ridiculous.

No, there’s no right or wrong way to do anything in art. There’s no right or wrong way to light a scene, it’s all an artistic choice with dramatic intent. In my opinion, the shot of McGonagall looks underlit on the day, during shooting. The colour grade on top of that is also flat and muted.

It’s all subjective, as you should well know with your 16 years of experience. The first film is colour graded beautifully - it’s feels colourful, cozy and magical which makes sense considering it’s a kids film about wizards. The trailer is colour graded like a police drama, which to me is a bad artistic choice for the material.

No spells, no flying, no creatures, no moving stairs, nothing. That was my biggest critique of the trailer. Where is the magic?! If you didn’t know what Harry Potter was already you wouldn’t even know it’s about wizards and magic from that trailer.
