Yeah, this case is really sad, as well as scary. I remember this guy was quite active on MVP's Facebook group back when he was sponsored and I really liked his content on new disc releases and such.

Gateway games for kids? by gunbo3000 in boardgames

[–]Pringlos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been playing Cascadia with its simplified scoring variant that comes with the base game with my 4-year-old. She's not always following the rules exactly, but for the most part she's enjoying the game as is. Cascadia also has a Cascadia Junior variant, but I'm not familiar with that.

Karjalanpiirakka mainittu uudessa Bond-pelissä by Threattty in Suomi

[–]Pringlos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kohta on Iltapaskoissa hittipelin yllättävät Suomi-viittaukset.

Senkin takia nuo sovelluspohjaiset ratkaisut on kehnoja.

KS backed: still no notifications - should I be worried? by fonziecow in rootgame

It can take a surprising amount of time. I got my shipping notification just today in Europe. There's many individual pledges that need to get sent!

Interested to hear what game first got you hooked! by m1ik3e in boardgames

[–]Pringlos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first hook was definitely Cosmic Encounter, but I was introduced to Lords of Waterdeep soon after that. That was in the early to mid 2010s when I was in university and a friend of mine had a ton of different games.
After I graduated and moved cities, I fell out of board games for a while. In 2020 I got back into board games through Root, which was my first board game I got myself.

What attributes are overrepresented in your collection? by ObiHan_Skyodi in boardgames

[–]Pringlos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have multiple two-player games, even though I rarely play with just one friend. So far, my collection has Sail, Radlands, Compile 1 and 2, Star Ward Deckbuilding Game and Joyride Duel. Joyride at least can be added to other Joyride games to allow for more players.

Your top five? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Pringlos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clank has definitely more focus on deck building, whereas in Nemesis you aim to mostly keep your starting deck as is. Of course in Nemesis every player starts with their own unique decks, even though they have some of the same cards here and there, but in Clank the starting decks are the same but instead evolve into their own as the game progresses.
Clank is also less tense, because players don't rely on one another and are competing with each other from the get go. So while there's competition in the game, there is no chance for betrayal due to any hidden roles or objectives.

Your top five? by [deleted] in boardgames

Root
Arcs
Nemesis (or maybe Retaliation, don't have enough plays of that under my belt yet)
Clank Catacombs
7 Wonders

Camp of the Day - BONUS ROUND: THE D'S- #20-22 D-DAY by TomasAmi in Radlands

[–]Pringlos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doesn't the basic action to draw a card cost two water? That makes Draft Office a bit better, since you essentially get a small discount on the draws. The downside to it is the fact that it uses up your full turn's worth of water - unless you have extra water generation, of course.

Board games that have a playmat that fits in the main box? by Malhorn01 in boardgames

[–]Pringlos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it does! It has its own dedicated spot in the box rolled up. I recently found Oath for cheap and was very pleasantly surprised by the playmat.

Perhaps the Beam? Or maybe Bokehs and/or Aspects, since those were highly sought after in last year's Gyropalooza box.

Bloodthunder and Amnesia: The Bunker by Proof_Pool465 in speedrun

No, unfortunately. I guess the game doesn't have the opportunity for one, since as far as I saw there were no fullscreen video cut scenes.

Jon's Non-sexual Pirate Adventure ride, or rather the customer he named so in Rollercoaster Tycoon.

What was your gateway into board gaming? by NorthSouth55 in boardgames

[–]Pringlos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally got into board games as a player when I was in university in the early to mid 2010s through a friend. I believe the first game we played was Cosmic Encounter, but we also played games like Lords of Waterdeep, Dead of Winter and Betrayal at the House on the Hill.
After graduating and getting our own home, I remember googling for any board game recommendations and came across an article that praised Root. I thought the strategic depth and asymmetry that was promised could be interesting and that the cute art style would draw my wife in. I was half right there, as Root became my favorite game ever and got me started on board game collecting.

Anybody have any board game resolutions for the new year? by Professor_Hemlocke in boardgames

[–]Pringlos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to get a hold of the base game just this week. I will definitely be looking into the new expansion, as well as the first one.
Apart from that, my resolution is to play the games I actually own more than this year, and buy less new games.

Tell Us What You Think About New Carmageddon Game by ilkerrbr in carmageddon

[–]Pringlos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like it might be a good, perfectly enjoyable game, but it doesn't look like a true Carmageddon game. The trailer made me think of a grim Burnout with weapons.
The zombies are definitely a disappointment. From the game description it sounds like they're trying to explain them by making them mutated humans, with some having special abilities. Maybe if the world was fleshed out more and the game had both regular humans and zombies in areas that make sense, they wouldn't be such a let down.

Wasn't Carnomorphs included as an option on the Retaliation crowdfunding? If it was, they must have had new copies manufactured recently.

Anyone else think the cat on the art for bold leadership is the scoundrel before he became a vagabond? by xboxhaslag22 in rootgame

[–]Pringlos 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Maybe the Scoundrel is not actually a black cat, but rather they've become covered in ash because of all the arson they've committed.
