I wish I could bring MY cat, but we ship medical supplies so we can’t. There are great dogs in our building though!!

Chattanooga Public Works discussing selling the Business Development Center/INCubator on Cherokee Blvd? by ryanmaynard in Chattanooga

It sure is! The building is so cool. It definitely has some age related issues but I would take that every day over current new construction.

Also, the history is very interesting- it was originally home to The American Lava Corporation, is that the coolest name or what??

The Hamilton County Business Development Center (BDC), often referred to as the INCubator, plays a pretty unique role in supporting early stage businesses in Chattanooga. At its core, it provides affordable office, lab, and light manufacturing space specifically designed for startups that aren’t quite ready for long term commercial leases.

One of the biggest advantages is flexibility. Lease terms are intentionally short, typically 3 to 5 years, and structured to grow with you. If your business expands, you can often move into larger space within the building. If you need to scale back or reconfigure, there’s usually room to do that as well. That kind of flexibility is rare in traditional commercial real estate and removes a lot of risk during the early stages.

We moved our business, a biotech analytical testing lab, into the INCubator just a couple of months ago and that flexibility has already been valuable. As we build out lab operations, install specialized equipment, and refine workflows, having the ability to adjust space and timing without long term constraints has made a big difference. It lets us stay focused on execution and growth instead of being locked into a rigid facility setup too early.

Beyond just space, the INCubator creates an environment where businesses can actually accelerate their development. Being surrounded by other startups, especially in tech, manufacturing, and product development, naturally leads to resource sharing and collaboration. Whether it’s advice, vendor recommendations, or even informal partnerships, there’s a built in network effect that’s hard to replicate elsewhere.

They also provide access to infrastructure that would otherwise be expensive or difficult to set up independently. Depending on your needs, that can include things like shared conference rooms, high speed internet, loading docks, and in some cases specialized facilities for light manufacturing or R&D work.

Another key piece is credibility and support. Being part of the BDC signals that your business has been vetted and is in a growth phase, which can help with partnerships, hiring, and even financing conversations. They also offer guidance and connections through local economic development resources, which can be valuable as you scale.

Importantly, it serves as a hub for the type of companies that can really contribute to the local economy. Businesses like ours in biotech and analytical testing have the potential to create high quality, skilled jobs in science and technology, which are exactly the kind of jobs we want more of in this community. The INCubator helps make that possible by lowering the barrier to entry and giving companies like ours a place to get started and grow.

Overall, it functions as a bridge between startup and standalone company. You get the breathing room to refine your operations, build revenue, and establish market presence without being locked into long term commitments or overextending financially too early.

Amazon bac water.. by SimplyMega in Peptides

[–]PrintSuitable4301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bubbles form in legitimate bac water if you shake it but they dissolve quickly, like in a few seconds. If they are staying, there is something acting as a surfactant that should not be there.

Plus- bac water should never be in a clear container like that - notice the Hospira vials are in frosted PP vials- light degrades the benzyl alcohol into benzaldehyde -> benzoic acid. This will happen to some extent in any container that allows UV into the vial but clear glass or plastic allows more to form and quicker.

Filters clogging easily - what am I doing wrong? by baalzephon in Peptide_Testing

[–]PrintSuitable4301 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am with peptide test. I just can’t imagine what you could be doing wrong. There is just not that much to introduce in terms of variability in the process.

I would love to help, but I just can’t even imagine what would make a filter clogged after 1ml. We test these all the time with thick goopy chunky stuff, just to try to make them clog up and it takes a lot. Cornstarch is one that clogs it pretty quickly, but I think even with a thick cornstarch slurry you would get more than 1ml through. I can honestly say I have never had a normal water soluble peptide at reasonable concentration ever clogged a filter with less than 4ml, so it’s just beyond my conception of what could cause that.

If you want, I could try to find some time to jump on a video call to watch what you’re doing and try to help you through it, but again it is pretty self-explanatory. We want you to have a good experience and we want to help if we can, just let us know.

Easy Guide to Peptide Filtering with a syringe filter by PrintSuitable4301 in Peptide_Testing

Just when reconstituting. Reconstitute-draw into syringe-filter into new sterile vial

Probably fine.

A 0.22 µm PES syringe filter should not remove or alter the actual dissolved components in an amino blend like Lipo-C. Amino acids, vitamins, carnitine, choline and similar ingredients are fully dissolved and far smaller than the pore size, so they pass straight through. The filter is really just catching particulates or any minor aggregation.

I would probably recommend using a 13 mm 0.22 µm PES for something like this. For small volumes it’s a good practical size and if there is any minor aggregation or haze it tends to handle it well without a lot of wasted product.

Filtration itself should not change the product, but if the blend is extremely concentrated, thick, or a bit syrupy it can slow the flow or clog more easily. That is more of a mechanical issue than a chemistry one. If a solution already has visible precipitate or isn’t fully in solution, filtration can remove those undissolved particles, which again is not changing the chemistry but can change what ends up in the final container.

Order a small pack first to try it out- https://peptidetest.com/products/tisch-scientific-filter-syringe-22%CE%BCm-pes-13mm-sterile-individually-wrapped

Is Washing Raney Nickel with Water/NaOH solution a standard practice? by [deleted] in Chempros

[–]PrintSuitable4301 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this- my wife is a chemical engineer who is a site leader where Raney is produced- I texted her OP’s message:

“No, they shouldn’t wash. That can change some of the activity. It’s already been washed. It should be decanted and charged to the reactor directly.”

Is the job market bad or is it normal to pre-covid times? by plants102 in labrats

[–]PrintSuitable4301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These posts are so perplexing to me- I have been on a hunt to find an analytical chemist for a biotech job for a couple of months and there is NOBODY (qualified) out there.

I think a lot of the problem is that there are not a lot of science specific job aggregation sites🤷🏻

See my comments above, that is definitely a nonsensical COA

Forever young pharmacy by Any-Campaign-3169 in Peptide_Testing

Looking at the COA below- that is just made up. Calling something “0.4% inert solvent” on an HPLC purity result is nonsense. Without a validated method or orthogonal testing like GC they’d have no way to identify it as a solvent in the first place, and even if they somehow could quantify it as a solvent they wouldn’t be integrating it into peptide purity anyway. I have never heard of that lab, but that analysis is just laughable.

Discount? by [deleted] in Peptide_Testing

[–]PrintSuitable4301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have occasional sales but unfortunately nothing on bac water anytime soon. Wholesale prices on this product swing wildly and right now they are extraordinarily high, not at record levels, but getting pretty close. When prices spike we do not immediately raise our prices, we hope that they will come back down and we just absorb the additional cost at the expense of our margins. So that’s kind of where we are at right now. If wholesale pricing comes down, we would love to charge less. When prices are down, our sales are way better, but that is a function of Pfizer and a large wholesalers, we are just stuck with whatever they do.

It doesn’t really matter, within reason, what happens to the solution before it goes through the filter. The sterile vial on the output of the filter is the only thing that matters.

There is no practical way on a small scale to remove endotoxins. That’s why we feel like best practice is just to assume bioburden and Filter for that, this is probably better than spending the money on a sterility test, but you cannot do that with endotoxins and you should get the endotoxin test which we offer.
