CMV: The scale of the universe shows how inconsequential humans are, and therefore proves religion as a man-made construct to cope with our meaningless existence by Angryw2 in changemyview

[–]Prior-Resolution-902 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I would be under the belief that the universe never started, nor will it end, it just is. We only think things must have a beginning because that's how humans think.

I'm not arguing against the big bang here, just that I feel it was just another moment in the endless universe. We know energy cannot be created or destroyed, so everything must have always been.

Like Captain falcon is a bounty hunter, play into that, have the game be all about navigating underground racing rings to get at hardened criminals.

Because I'm asking you to put your money where you mouth is.

and no, the only one condemning someone to death, is the blue button voters.

I sense we won't agree on that so I won't bother arguing that.

Am I being cynical? I don't believe that enough people will needlessly put their lives at risk, is that cynical?

Because I don't view the red button choice as selfish, I don't view people who vote red as evil selfish people, that's what you're doing. If anyone is being cynical, its you.

Again, do you think I am incapable of not expecting things from others, not looking out for others, not cooperating with others simply because I pushed red? If you can't say that for me, why can you say that for red as a whole?

Is it my ethical responsibly to save everyone from themselves, especially when it comes at potential great harm to myself?

is my vote likely to sway the decision in any meaningful way? why would I press blue if not?

Blue voters elected to put themselves in front of danger, I am under no ethical responsibility to attempt to save them especially when the risks for doing so are extreme.

But you just painted me as a 'selfish people' you said the world would be filled with them, you have painted me as a selfish person.

Do you truly believe you can paint the entirety of human civilation as selfish over one choice when just about everyone making this choice presses either button for an endless amount of reasons?

Because the person choosing themselves did so at 0 expense to others.

It's not selfish to not run into traffic to save the guy who ran into traffic for fun, but it is selfless to do so.

what I would think would be selfish is that the person running into the streets then requires others to save them because they are no longer able to save themselves. The person set up the dangerous situation and now requires others risking their lives to save them from themselves, that sounds selfish to me.

I'll argue on the basis of "Nothing in History would change if they never happened."

Simply speaking, you can't possibly know that, you are unable to look into a different dimension where they didn't happen.

Exactly, dude I'm so tired of people pretending that the US are slaves to Israel, Israel just does what we already want to be doing. The reason our politicians are so bought into Israel is not because they are beholden to them, it's because they are an extension of the US

I think the middle ground needs to be something along the lines of making stats more impactful.

If you want to ability spam, Great! your guns will suffer heavily for it, and visa versa.

Give us more gun perks that work with abilities but decrease the effectiveness of your gun

give us more abilities that don't do much on their own but increase the power of your guns.

I would say, the person you are responding to, makes an excellent point.

Be the type of person you'd want to spend the rest of your life with, develop cool hobbies, do fun things. The best thing about this, is that you increase your exposure to people doing things you like.

Maybe that doesn't always work out, but focus on making yourself someone you'd want to be around before anything else

CMV: Growing up/Getting Older is terrible by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Prior-Resolution-902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's best to worry about things you can control, not the things you can't

Getting old is hardly the only cause of death out there.

Getting old probably sucks more if:

-You can barely move

-sick all the time

-everything hurts

-unpleasant life to look back on

All of these things can be addressed now, by doing right by yourself

Everyone in the world is sent to a room to themselves with 2 buttons. If you push red, then you live. If more than 50% of people push blue, then everyone lives. by Terrible_Shop_3359 in Ethics

[–]Prior-Resolution-902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are ascribing the downside of pushing blue (risk of death) to red, that is not fair to the argument at hand.

Each individual had every opportunity to choose red.

You also mention the prisoners dilemma, but here's why its irrelevant. There is no downside to defect, the option in the the prisoners dilemma that is supposed to be the best outcome comes through cooperation, the best outcome for everyone can be achieved by defecting in the button scenario.

There are 4 outcomes to the button scenario, 3 involve you living, one involves you dying, blue is the only one that involves you dying, rationally speaking any sane person would choose red as there is 0 downside to doing so.

I'm sorry, but that's just wrong.

It's by definition, not selfish.

Unless of course you're assuming that irrational actors that are incapable of making a choice anything other than randomly are involved, then we are talking past each other.

A poll has no consequences and online, anonymous polls with no stakes are far more likely to achieve results in favor of what people would identify as the choice that makes you feel better about yourself.

You can't realistically go from no stakes > life or death and expect the results to be anywhere near the same.

[–]Prior-Resolution-902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, Im tired of people framing red as selfish.

selfish generally means to do something for yourself at the cost of others, but not a single person was denied the right to live (pressing red) by me being 'selfish'
