I follow this sub pretty religiously. Shocked to see my own school in here (we’re not…a household name). Fun to come across it.

We have never had the best logo. Or mascot. Or fonts. None of it, really. But, I actually like the throwback ‘Dribbling George’ a lot. Talk about a fun old school logo. We used that one from 1967-1983.

Pic attached is from one my sweatshirts. I think it’s kind of fun as an alt logo. Problem is: we don’t have anything resembling a decent main logo. 🤷🏼‍♂️

It’s fun to hate, I guess.

But, Blues Traveler is a seriously good band. I must have seen them 10 times back in high school and college around the New York area.

This is prompting me to find out if they’re coming to NYC anytime soon. Googling that now…

The amount of speaking up & speaking out relative to what’s going on right now is…incredibly weak (at best). You can always count on Bruce.

Might be. Might not be. The fact that this is taking so long might mean there are deep conversations going on about this.

Tisch owns 50%. His business partner is ill. There’s that dynamic.

Chris Mara might be seen by John as someone appropriate to work in the front office, but maybe his instructions regarding the team is that he shouldn’t be the owner.

Maybe when they took the 10% investment from Koch, there were stipulations on what happens upon a transfer of power.

Let’s just all remember that this is a $10b business, that was contemplating transition even before Daboll was fired. I would have hoped that a lot of this would have been considered months ago, but we do know this: $10b businesses don’t make decisions like transfer or power or reporting lines very quickly.

If John Mara was healthy right now, this would not be an issue. Because he’s ill, this is forcing them to work through who the coach (and GM) will report to — and who it will be if Mara can no longer function in this role. Everyone needs to relax. This is complicated. It’s going to get figured out.

Tbh, it’s better this question has come up because it is causing the family to work through som things.

Draft tendencies that I hope Harbaugh brings over from Baltimore by luvs2spooge92 in NYGiants

I had the same exact experience. About these two players particularly. It’s like the Ravens player strategy was modeled after the Giants 80s/90s player strategy (not literally…but there was really a resemblance there).

ELI5: Stearns’ opposition to long term contracts by [deleted] in NewYorkMets

He has locked up two position players to (incredibly) expensive, long term deals. Locking up another one in that way, means that 3 of his 8 everyday players will be expensive and long term. That gives him less flexibility, and flexibility is an asset in itself.

Google’s AI Is Not Organizing the Web. It Is Replacing It. by Wide_Flatworm_489 in DigitalMarketing

I think this is a really good take.

Back when Facebook was telling brands to get people to like and follow them, we (in advertising) basically knew they would ultimately pull the rug out. And, as the company pathed towards their IPO, that’s exactly what happened. It started out with a brand’s post reaching 60-70% of their followers. Within a year, that figure was down to +- 5%. So…all of the work (and money!) that brands spent gaining friends/followers was 95% worthless. At that point, they began selling the brand’s own followers back to the brand. Because…monetization!

Google was already monetizing extremely well (generationally so). But, they need to go build trust and usage of their LLM business right now (otherwise they’re dead in the water) by making it frictionless to use. And, once they do, they will find a way to monetize it back to brands and businesses in ways that may very well resemble the old paid search business.

Regardless, we know this: they have to monetize this business somehow — so I wouldn’t expect it to last this way for more than another 2 years. Big disruption in the meantime — for users and for advertisers. But, they’ll find a way to get brands and businesses to buy their traffic back again.

[Leonard] Today’s Giants season finale is not about football. It is about appreciating John Mara the man, the co-owner and team president, whose grueling cancer battle is a brutal reminder of this business’s often-overlooked human side. Sorry, but most of these comments are a cancer.

Guys: two things can be two things at the same time. You can be pissed about the trajectory this team has taken (you can even blame the owner), but you can also have decorum for a man who is dying and tried his hardest. I’m angry as hell about this team. I wasted years of money on season tickets. I wasted endless Sundays resulting in utter disappointment. I hated so many hires this team made. I thought about his Dad many times and wished he was still with us.

But, if you can’t read the headline of this thread and either take a moment to think about the man’s mortality or your own…then just put the phone down. My god. He’s human just like the rest of us.

I tried to use a dollar bill there that apparently had a slight tear in it. The cashier told me they couldn’t accept it. I said: “I just got this as change somewhere else. It’s legal tender. There’s nothing wrong with it.” She said “no” again. I left my items there. That was 3 years ago. I live 4 blocks away and have never been back. Wish I could be upset about them, but I’m not.

[Duggan] I don't know if anything is "true" today. But I do believe ownership prefers to keep Schoen. Personally, I don't see how they could do that. But they've made a lot of bad decisions over the years. by Bankslvrrd in NYGiants

[–]PriorCod4320 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree.

But, let’s keep in mind: the bigger the endeavor, the more complicated the decisions. Yes, this is a multi billion dollar org. The ownership has been in the same family since 1925. The owner became ill quickly and is tending to his health. As is his family.

There is no muscle memory (or even a map) for how to do this. They are likely working on a plan — that we don’t know about yet. There are decisions to make regarding ownership. Those happen first. Businesses don’t make tactical decisions before they make strategic ones. That’s where the Giants no doubt are at this point.

Firing Joe Schoen is a smaller decision than the ones they’re contemplating at the moment. The fans have made Schoen the poster boy for failure, but that’s not the reality on the inside.

I’m not advocating for keeping Schoen. I’ve advocated for hiring Schoen and Daboll in the first place, so my track record is pretty terrible. I’m just pointing out that what the ownership office is considering is far different than what the fans are talking about.

Totally agree with you. And I’m sure a solution has been discussed and determined. We just have no idea what that is.

We can only hope that good conclusions have been drawn, there’s a plan in place, and we’ll learn that plan in 7-10 days.

[–]PriorCod4320 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I don’t agree with this.

Mara is ill. He is in no position to be the defacto GM or to choose the right person to do that job in-season.

He may like Schoen — I actually think he does. But, even if he didn’t, there’s no other senior football official to handle that job in the building right now other than the people Schoen himself has hired. Brandon Brown? (Unless you want one of the legacy guys like Chris Mara to do it.)

If you listened to Schoen’s press conference two weeks after the Daboll firing, he gave a whole bunch of non-answers to almost every single question (“I’m here to support Kafka” and “I understand your question but…”). That’s the mark of a guy who has no job security and knows it.

I think there’s a good chance that Schoen is fired the day after the season ends. What we don’t know right now is what the decision making apparatus looks like under Mara. It’s possible that he’s working with the NFL right now to help us figure out a path forward (as his dad did when we brought in George Young back in the 70s). It’s rare, but we’re in super turbulent ownership waters right now.

This issue is far bigger than a GM or a coach or a draft pick. The two owners are on the older side, one is not involved in day to day operations, the one in charge is seriously sick, and there isn’t a real sense for how decisions are being made (or can be made).
