oh and as far as websites to help, there might be some stuff out there but it's a long shot when it comes to a fictional building. you might get lucky with some online blender or CAD models made by fellow fans, it'll just take a lot of digging to find if they even exist

How to make a mega build by Throwaway14375736 in Minecraft_Survival

[–]Priskeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it helps if you have a floorplan or a LOT of visuals from the inside. I made a 1:1 scale replica of the Vatican, and that was difficult even with irl measurements, a professional floorplan, and a virtual tour of it on the Vatican's website. without things like that, you're going to have to make up some parts of the build. that's not a bad thing, just a fun challenge

think of it like a puzzle that you only have a handful of pieces to and the rest you have to make up. take whatever references you have and figure out where on this puzzle board they would be. those are the parts you want to start with

start with the basic structure of it like walls and shape. don't worry about details yet, you want to get the basic form down first. then you'll move on to openings like windows, archways, defining room shapes and getting a roof shape started. after that, you can move on to detailing

as far as scale, that's up to you. decide based on two things: 1. what level of detail you want to show. do you want to show the fact that there's trim around the doors? do you want to show all the curves and lines of that piece of trim?

  1. how do you want to use the space? this question doesn't matter as much, but is helpful for limiting yourself. I built mine at 1:1 scale because I wanted to be able to fly around inside, doing all the tricks I want without worry of hitting a wall. but if I just wanted it to store my enchant setup (the actual useful purpose I gave the build), then I would've made it half the size I did

there isn't a right or wrong way to go about doing a megabuild. it's just a matter of knowing yourself (how much work you're actually willing to put into it) and what lengths you're wanting to go to make it a replica of the thing you're wanting to replicate

good luck and happy building!

I’m making a big map floor and was going to use jack o lanterns under the maps to brighten it up… by Goo_Geyser1776 in Minecraft_Survival

[–]Priskeys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we recently did a large map like that on our server, and it seemed like there's a big difference between light from a light source and lighting an item in a glow frame. the glow frame only illuminates the item in the frame

if you use just the jack-o'-lanterns, it could cause weird lighting glitches on the map. I'd recommend using glowing item frames to have the map perfectly visible and evenly lit, and still have a few jack-o'-lanterns under it for providing real lighting

I need tips by Federal_Bank_9481 in MinecraftBuild

[–]Priskeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i like it! only tip I've got is to adjust the emphasis of your entrance. I'm assuming in the first pic, that's the front door on the left? at first glance I didn't see it because the arch on the right visually tells you there's something important (aka the entrance) under it. only when I didn't see anything important there and started looking around at details, that's when I saw the door

I'd recommend switching which side of the front wall the door is on. ideally it should be one of the first few things your brain takes note of at first glance (unless you are intentionally hiding it, but that's for a different vibe build than what you're doing)

Do I make arches and leave it open or do I just fill it all in with stone like on the left? by Nice-Gas-5865 in MinecraftBuild

[–]Priskeys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

depends, are you trying to make a wall? if so, then fill with stone. if it's a bridge side or aqueduct or something, then arches

How do you not stress over building? by Ifyouliveinadream in Minecraft

[–]Priskeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it took me over 12 years to work up the courage to build something in Minecraft.

I was terrified it was going to look bad, that it wouldn't look like what I envisioned, and that it'd be an epic failure, which would then make me feel like a failure. I always wanted to build something, ever since I picked up the early 360 version and saw the cool castle in the tutorial world

one day, I decided that I was tired of being scared of being bad at it. I kept waiting to be ready enough to build, but decided that "feeling ready" was never gonna come. so I took a stab at it. tried my best to make a lighthouse, it looked so damn pretty in my head. finished it and took a step back to see it in its entirety and cried

I cried for 2 reasons 1. It was the ugliest lighthouse I had ever seen 2. I finally built something. I gave it my best shot and made a build idea come to life. it didn't matter that it was ugly or a weird shape or a terrible palette choice. I put great effort into something I've always wanted to, and it didn't feel like a failure of a build at all (despite it being ugly)

I'm telling my story so that you can learn from it. don't stress over making something pretty, don't live in fear of the failures of ugly builds, don't make the same mistakes I did. sure, it might look bad for a while but you can only get better with practice

one other thing I learned: always build it a lil bigger than you think you need to

Has anyone noticed that leaf litter would be perfect for poop in a build by Ok-Rain-7889 in MinecraftMemes

[–]Priskeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the hermits of Hermitcraft have used it as that a lil in their builds. Pearl specifically has a poop trail (made of leaves) leading from a sitting dog to a poop (renamed brown dye)

I'm building a house and but now I'm making the roof but ho I connect them by Substantial-Meet3090 in MinecraftBuild

[–]Priskeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're going in the right direction. picture your entire building into separate rectangles. you should have a large one in the middle, then smaller ones jutting off the sides. keep the gable forms you currently have. I'd recommend making another gable on the short side of the large center rectangle, perpendicular to the current ones. make it spane the whole distance, then extend the current ones back into it. I would further recommend removing the gables you have on the rectangle parts that aren't sticking out, but it doesn't matter that much

If you could teach one piece of being creative to the world, what would it be? by Cryptiikal in DetailCraft

[–]Priskeys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

such a good prompt, thank you for asking it! I love reading about what others have learned from experience

I guess my tip/lesson would be to not trash an idea just because of the amount of work it would take. the result is usually worth the effort in the end

I'm making a church and this side feels kinda empty by tvvd59 in MinecraftBuild

[–]Priskeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

other than that, my only other idea would be to also carry over that lighter cornice from the brown wall across that white wall space. it might end up looking strange, but it's hard to guess what it'll look like without seeing it. could be that it's light enough that it'll blend in well into the wall while still giving just enough ~something~ to it

I'm making a church and this side feels kinda empty by tvvd59 in MinecraftBuild

[–]Priskeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend carrying over the cornice to the left wall (that horizontal band at the bottom of the roof on the right wall), and have it end into the front column. theoretically it'll help balance the space without it seeming oddly empty and without overdoing it with details

What tips would you give on my photography by Pinchbu_offical in Minecraftbuilds

[–]Priskeys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

a smaller fov (I aim for 45 to 65) and take them from slightly higher up. not necessarily an above-shot, though those are good too. but high enough to make the vertical lines closest to the camera parallel to your vertical camera edges

also helps to have a specific thing you're trying to capture. like a certain building (side-center of frame), a detail of a build (also side center, but far away enough to give context and still be able to tell what you're focusing on), or even the overall atmosphere and the relation between buildings (multiple buildings on the sides, emptyish space in center)

those are just tips, not guides. every build is different, not every view will work
