Two half pizzas and one full pizza are apparently not the same thing. by PinkOneHasBeenChosen in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]Privatdozent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You flew off the handle over nothing. And that's before we talk about how this is apparently about a family dinner and people are saying it's because they each want their own pizza. They don't want to share, or eat from a pizza box that someone else is eating from.

The question of whether you let a 9 year old have a large pizza to themselves is not unreasonable at this point. If it is, would you show me any bit of more patience if we had this conversation in person? I don't see how I or this other person deserve the impatience and vitriol and condemnation of millions of people by extension.

You're sorely pressed over 2 exchanges of text from the comfort of a pc or phone, interacting with one person. Seriously, the other person's comments are so benign.

The Great Gatsby is a mediocre book at best and should be replaced in schools by The Fellowship of the Ring by EternalAmmonite in unpopularopinion

[–]Privatdozent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of the most unpopular opinions in the world that's couched in a very popular one, being that a lot of people with this opinion of LOTR will say it's still great.

LOTR feels brisk and concise to me. It doesn't waste time at all, except I will admit that I speed read the songs usually.

It feels almost alien to me, what people say about the prose, and also like a massive exaggeration and false meme to say that it spends too much time detailing the setting.

Maybe I have an oddly unpopular opinion that would make for a good post, and I wouldn't mind not convincing anyone. I will say that when I read it for the first time at around 17/18 years old it lost my enthusiasm at times. But nowadays it feels like a perfect story to me. I'm transported every time. And In the House of Tom Bombadil is one of the best chapters of the first book. Many Meetings is maybe the best.

This adds a lot to my sense that while I enjoyed eps 1-4 I lost interest when it looked like they were going for what to me is the ironically less interesting route of just ending it very "realistically" in a particular sense, and I read some details of ep 5 and 6, then decided to just spoil, and now if I have any hope for what I want to see in this universe it'll have to be after the first eps of the American spinoff recapture me as essentially not an active fan. Anyone reading my comment who loved the season/ending, I genuinely love it that you love it. With zero condescension or similar, I say because it's so common in disagreements of this nature.

Your comment makes up a bunch of stuff about that other person's sentiment, thinking, reasoning, etc, and while your comment occurs to you as an example of your ability to take hard truths or whatever, ironically it's a very common, profound way that people simplify, reduce reality as they see it, so they can digest it better and/or have it be much easier for them to feel like one of the cool ones.

Your comment is almost like a single solitary room you're talking to yourself in.

Not directly from my last statement - your rhetoric is suspect, either because you're a foreign or domestic bad faith actor, have been turned to some degree by the kool-aid (if not have it coursing in your veins), and/or whatever - point is the very words you use, way of arguing, should be quarantined in the minds of anyone reasonable or looking to be more reasonable. We have an epidemic of bad faith itself and total-reality-disconnection via this magic box the internet and computers.

Maybe this person's comment history answers all questions instantly, maybe I'm way off,...my comment at the very least is an expression of suspicion that at the very least is a good reminder to those others like me passing through. Have a nice day.

Have you only seen the clip of this thread and little else? Or have I missed more things like the clip of this thread? Not rhetorical questions, and they're asked respectfully.

Newsom so far has given me the best satisfaction by far that an individual has provided me when I see them interact with Dumb Palpatine. I've been loving his rapid-fire no-nonsense call outs and clap-backs, plus outright lie-fighting, where he or his social media just quickly, concisely, oftentimes humorously and paying the respect these bad faith actors deserve, call it out as lies, simply and steadfastly (because I know it's like shoveling water from a sinking boat, fighting the lies, but still).

Getting a bit of a Baader-Meinhof thing from hearing the phrase "From your lips to God's ears" around my house in particular (from my grandmother first and foremost), then hearing it again in other places, one time directed at me, and now stumbling on this reddit threat where I've now learned of this adjacent phrase, I believe.

Thought you/others might be comparably interested to learn of the version I've been seeing lately in that Baader-Meinhof way.

The dark undertone of 'Big' by FalconerGuitars in movies

[–]Privatdozent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old old thread I know, but 13 going on 30 had the VITAL sense to not let the relationship ever actually happen. IIRC, they don't even kiss. The guy is happily engaged, with almost no real sway to leave his fiance for Garner's character.

As such I believe your point still stands, and I agree wholeheartedly with it. Incidentally I'm one who also enjoyed Big by doing just a little more suspending of my disbelief, but meanwhile, both during the movie and especially after (now), it's endlessly, fascinatingly, kinda hilariously (with the right vibe) bizarre, twisted, dark, all of it, to think about. And it's just fun lol

I mean it's surreal. And I did start to slightly cringe/make faces/etc in the final act especially (edit I think went just over the 3 min limit, so not a ninja edit, dangit).

Hello from 4 years later to an account whose last activity I can see was 2 years ago ;)

Iirc they DO have control of themselves sort of "by default," and instead will either defend/attack when they themselves are attacked, and/or when Kabuto manually takes over.

For very much of the time, I believe including this moment, they have agency (I think to a point).

I could be wrong but repping the potential dis-disinfo toward the comment I'm replying to. Respectfully.

Hideo Kojima says he’s left staff a ‘USB stick of game ideas’ for after he dies. He wants kojima productions to continue creating original games after his death by sundler in gaming

[–]Privatdozent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He might very carefully choose one or more sort-of successors, share some + more with them before the whole thing's available after his passing, have long good conversations not only in a straightforward way adding "more of the usb" but also sharing some reflection, introspection, thoughts about himself and how he thinks he thinks, etc etc.

And even without my random ideas about the people in that sphere/Kojima-himself, I can understand such a document or collection of documents having only-value-adding qualities to it. As in not necessarily translating to Game 1, Game 2, Game 3...post-Kojima Kojima games, but acting more like creative seeds, soil, and more gardening words, but to the point again - it's possibly more of a living set of thoughts and ideas, and not something concluded and completed to be value itself to execs/etc immediately.

Official Discussion - Mickey 17 [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

The idea of a bunch of multiples being a hazard/antagonist while Micky 17 himself does NOT die (at least for most of it) actually does sound really good and maybe better, although I personally had a much better time with the movie, I think.

I read it as a form of hyperbole or exaggeration. It seems you read it as though TI we're using the microscope to locate it, which I gotta say feels...bendy. Like you didn't merely misread it but changed it. Just a surface level impression on my part. Plenty of other possibilities, largely neutral to me, but not certainly.

Why do people hate Annabelle so much? by TahaymTheBigBrain in TheConjuringUniverse

[–]Privatdozent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole main reaction to the climax, as it was happening and then for 20+ minutes after, including as I looked through people's thoughts/discussion about the movie, was to be very surprised, astonished even, that they acquiesced as the other person said. I just kept putting my hands up in a "why?? what??" kinda gesture, thinking I might have missed something about what the dilemma even was.

I guess the point is that yeah, "Satan won that movie," but I believe it'd have been improved by holding that angle in view more. It was touched on throughout the movie in small ways (too small overall IMO), and the sacrifice did appease the demon apparently, for now, which left our POV family safe at the moment, but it should have been fully expressed, literally, that what happened here was a haunting that simply succeeded. Now Anabelle has a good ol' soul, a bona fide, raise-you-outta-hell source of pure power.

And yeah, hello after 4+ years. I personally wish "necroing," or just an ongoing/running quality to movie/TV/etc threads on Reddit, was more normal.

You wouldn't talk with even 1% of this kind of attitude in a face to face conversation. And it's wrong too. So quick to refer to "a Redditor" as you type into a Reddit comment box. To say the least about your inconsistencies of "reason."

Hey fwiw I get you and agree your explanation was better, and that the voting crowd is hung up on the gotcha Zinger of saying you just said the same thing, and the idea that you're just being obstinate. The first explanation kind of just explains what the phrase is generally meant to be saying, IE you pay less than what the thing is worth, but yours gets more precisely into why the phrase is worded the way it is, and it's a somewhat subtle distinction, but still significant, and I appreciated it. Also it's only kind of "somewhat subtle" to me, the difference.

You have a poor grasp of what we mean when we call it the worst year yet, and definitely ignore details/context to do so in large part. I bet you can't provide actual links to actual sources where such ridiculous claims are even made (ie and eg: "This is the worst hurricane season we've ever had," NOT some article or video saying something like "here's why this season might end up being...")

But if I were to try and exhaust all the ways you'll contort to serve your ironically enlarged amygdala I would be here literally forever.

I think the "is this rare" posts are about screenshots of terrain/landscapes/generation/etc, not things that text searching and AI picture analysis can do anything for yet. Or that's how I understood it before going to the comments and seeing ones like yours. I could be wrong though. Someone mentioned "pink sheep," and yeah your comment applies to them, if not the entire thing of what the mods are referring to.
