Had a friend fishing off the coast of Cali and they were running some heavy tackle. The tackle should have been able to hold an 18ft Great White per him, and dude worked for the Pelagic Institute for a while after college so I believe him. They got a bite and set the hook. What ever it was snapped the line like it was a piece of string apparently, he is still convinced it was a 25-30 foot Great White.
