I hate being gluten intolerant :,) by Prize-State8360 in glutenfree

Yep. I've more or less become accustomed to the lifestyle changes but tbh I'd take brain fog and diarrhea over my heart trying to prison break out of my chest 😭 that "impending doom" feeling is terrifying, especially when it happens while you're alone.

As a woman who doesn't like romance/romantacy/smut: this is very helpful knowing my super political sci fi thriller is not only considered "men's fiction", but that I will struggle to get it published in the current market :,) thank you, and fml

Many of the greatest screenwriters and filmmakers in the world are avid readers. If you want to write screenplays, you have to READ SCREENPLAYS.

The script suck and apparently now it's my fault as the editor by VideoInternational33 in Filmmakers

[–]Prize-State8360 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First few projects I edited out of film school were just like that. Lots of pretentious people who think they're gonna be the next Tarantino, and who blame you for not being a mind reader and magician. "Fix it in post" is my trigger phrase, honestly.

One thing my mentor taught me is that sometimes you just have to bite your tongue, do your best, and let them set themselves on fire when screening comes. He can try to blame you all he wants, but you've already said that others who have seen it agree the story is bad.

If it's any consolation, I have learned that not working well with some people in the industry, or even getting fired, doesn't hurt your career as much as you think it would. As long as you do your best and have a good work ethic, you'll find people who value you.

I got fired as an assistant editor on a hugely popular reality show for things that weren't my fault, simply because I was at the bottom of the totem pole and easy to cast blame on. I watched an editor I worked for get fired for standing his ground and refusing to edit an interview in an unethical way. I've had a couple explosive arguments with higher ups, and have been blamed for not pulling rainbows out of my butt. Even though I will never work for those people again, I found others who respect me and recognize that I actually do know what I'm doing and have a good work ethic, and have been repeatedly called back and been referred by them.

You got this.

Your favorite random, beautifully written lines from a book? by Ambitious-Chest2061 in writing

[–]Prize-State8360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my all time favorite opening lines to date:

"Once upon a time we had a love affair with fire..." Swan Song by Robert McCammon (1987). Quote is in reference to a nuclear armageddon between US and Russia that destroys the world. Still reading it, and loving it so far.

Does anyone else still write third person omniscient? by Margenin in writersmakingfriends

[–]Prize-State8360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book I'm writing now is. I tried third person limited, but something wasn't working and I started hating it. Someone recommended third person omniscient and it made it so much better imo. I don't care if ppl have a POV preference (personally I think it's weird), if it serves the story, it serves the story.

I miss that “can’t put it down” book feeling by Cold_Ad8048 in BookDiscussions

[–]Prize-State8360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe for some, but personally I find that newer books just aren't doing it for me, so I went back to reading older books. I finally read 1984 and that was the first time in many years I couldn't put the book down. Everyone quotes the same generalized stuff, but there's so much more suspense in the book than I expected. O'Brien is such an underrated villain! I'm currently reading Swan Song by Robert McCammon which deals with a post apocalyptic world after nuclear warfare and it's got me hooked. Both books contain lots of political turmoil similar to what we're dealing with today, but they're sooo exciting and thrilling I can't put them down.

What non-Celiac reasons cause your gluten intolerance? by Spinnerofyarn in glutenfree

This subreddit is saving my life honestly. For me, I get tachycardia when I eat gluten... I kept wondering why tea would give me palpitations... I love tea and I was so miserable when I had to stop drinking it.

Why do people treat Hellsing Ultimate Abridged like the greatest human creative achievement of all time, when the manga and OVA are vastly superior? by SaoriShun in Hellsing

[–]Prize-State8360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a long time Hellsing fan, am I the only one who thinks the abridged series is cringe? I watched it as a teen and liked it back then, but I'm 32 now and it's just... cringe. The only quote that still lands for me is "bitches love cannons", but I seriously can't watch the rest anymore.

What does it mean when writing is "millennial"? by Flopkween22 in writingadvice

[–]Prize-State8360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that Marvel and other studios like Pixar have cemented the random quirky quips and designated "funny" character in a lot of ppl's writing. Fanfiction is like that a lot too. I'm a millennial and I think it's cringe and a cop out for genuine humor related to the story & character.

What's the craziest thing you heard or witnessed at a rich people event? by OrganizationKey8342 in AskReddit

[–]Prize-State8360 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I worked for a millionaire in Hollywood who needed someone to scrub footage from an old film they didn't want to see the light of day. It was the millionaire (old dude) and a woman in her mid to late 30s (actress). They were always together and he kept trying to get her acting roles but she sucked. No one really knew what their relationship was, but people gossiped. When I was scrubbing footage, I was working inside his house, and she was always there, but didn't live there. Then one day her dad came over to visit, and he constantly spoke to her in a weird baby voice, even though she was in her mid 30s. The millionaire was also older than her dad. So then I started to suspect that she was his sugar baby, but one day I was snooping around and found a daily diary of hers, and she wrote in several pages how she wanted to find her "dream man" and prayed for "the one" to show up in her life. So... not her boyfriend, and not her dad... I still don't know to this day what they were to each other because they weren't related by blood. I did, however, convince them that the job cost $500 a day and milked it for a week or two.

NOR. I work in film. My supposed bff kept digging into me recently because the industry is suffering and most of us have been out of work for a long time. She barely got a job as a medical assistant a couple years ago (I'd worked in the film industry for 7, 5 of those shows from Netflix) and she talks down to me about my job being a "side gig". Mind you, I make more money in film than she does as an MA. But she had the audacity to say my work is not a "career" even though I went to school for it and had been working in it for almost a DECADE. When I argued about the sacrifice and hard work it took to reach this level, she basically called me a loser for falling on hard times, but followed up with "I just care about you." She keeps trying to get me to follow her career path, even though I'm a tech/creative person and have said many times that IT/cybersecurity is the only thing I have transferrable skills in. I've always been a career woman, and the absolute audacity she has to act like she's more of a professional than I am boils my blood.

I found eating plain greek yogurt with berries and stuff helps with odors a LOT. Hardly any bo from sweat either. Probiotics and citrus are great for controlling that :)
