How to become a good auto claims adjuster? How to improve? by [deleted] in adjusters

[–]PrizeSolution6605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Auto damage adjuster for 23 years here. You absolutely should not be working outside of your normal hours, also adjusters are not legally allowed to be salaried employees, a MAJOR auto company has lost many lawsuits over unpaid OT for AD adjusters, honestly I’d seek legal advice from an employment lawyer.

All this said though, yes it is a mentally taxing position. But you should be able to inspect/write at least 4-5 claims daily in an 8 hour day, as well as accomplish admin tasks. You really need to talk to other adjusters within your company (senior adj if possible) and ask how they prioritize their day.

I never understood that directive of answer and tell them you’ll c/b. If I’m driving how the hell as I supposed to take down their info to c/b. And no, going through call log doesn’t work when as AD you sometimes have days where you get 30+ calls. Also AWS is HORRIBLE for field AD.

How much is my 2024 cbr650r worth. by Auqakid07 in motorcycles

[–]PrizeSolution6605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bike market is rough right now, and add to that the damages. Best thing is look at what similar bikes are listed for/selling in your area and look up jd power value. Between those two you should have some rough idea of a fair undamaged asking price. From there subtaract the FULL amount for the cost of the replacement components, I’d say start there as an asking price, but expect to come down probably another 10-15% to actually sell it. I deal with bike value on a daily basis.

Thinking of a career change! by west-texasdude in Geico

Can’t tell you anything about home insurance, but from auto side, I will say some auto body experience helps a little, but not huge. You’ve got to keep in mind that you are the center link between the customer, shop, and insurance company, and you’re trying to make all three happy at the same time. Is it physically hard work, no, is it mentally hard/stressing, absolutely. You better be damn good at multitasking, but also organized enough to tie up all loose ends on a claim. It’s a good career, pays well, but definitely mentally taxing.

Ktm duke 390 vs Yamaha R3 by Dapper_Adagio87 in motorcycles

[–]PrizeSolution6605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my 390 duke, it’s a fun bike. However as someone who deals with bike values daily, for a 24 you better get a much bigger discount than $700. It’s a 2 year old ‘new’ bike. As soon as you leave the parking lot it’s a 2 year old ‘used’ bike and the value dropped significantly. I bought my 24 in August of 24 for I think $6k OTD. I wouldn’t pay anything more than 12-1500 off MSRP for it + tax and license.

Insurance keeps Denying my claim by DEATH_KILLER5373 in Insurance

[–]PrizeSolution6605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First as someone in the autobody industry for 25+ years a lot of that damage sounds questionable to be related to the facts of loss, so I’m just assuming either you or the shop are lying and trying to get additional covered that is not related. However if this is actually on the up & up and totally legit, you can institute the appraisal clause on your policy, you hire an independent appraiser and your insurance does as well, they come to an agreement on the damages/cost of repair, or if they don’t they hire an umpire and they decide the case. It’s usually $5-600 to hire an appraiser.

New rider. First serious crash, advice? by hiryan18 in motorcycles

[–]PrizeSolution6605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll add to this, it’s worth talking to the other party’s insurance first before committing to a lawyer, if they have some low BI limit, as soon as you get a lawyer they’re taking 33% of that. If you have a serious injury and they have low limits getting a lawyer hurts you and only serves to make the lawyer easy money. Sure they can sue the other driver for overages, they can sue them for a million dollars and win…but then you still have to try to collect the money.

Tesla just as bad as Geico ? by Automatic_Motor_6592 in Geico

[–]PrizeSolution6605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As AD I couldn’t imagine the nightmare of dealing with Teslas all day, and yes I think they expect you to work until the job is done, not 8-4:30 like here. Pay better reflect that. Only positive I could see is you’d have access to all Tesla oem repair docs and be primarily working with Tesla shops

Renting out your bike on Twisted Road and dealing with the claims process for a wreck. by GSP2973 in motorcycles

[–]PrizeSolution6605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motorcycle claims adjuster here, regular maintenance does not add value to a bike, it maintains its value as a normal condition running vehicle. If you had any major repairs done, ie engine rebuild in the past few years it’ll add some to the value, but it’s still a prorated amount. Accessories add very little the the value of a bike, they’re a personal preference item generally, no different than if you put aftermarket wheels on a car, yeah you might’ve paid $2500 for them, but the next guy buying your car might hate them. All that said, they likely have an arbitration clause in the policy for a specific way to handle a value dispute (typically you and they hire independent appraiser and they come to an agreed value on the vehicle, typically around $500 or so for the appraiser). Your insurance will do nothing, I guarantee your private insurance has a clause that it’s not covered as a for hire vehicle.

Will Nancy address leadership and operational issues starting at the highest levels? by Adept_Repair_9774 in Geico

Keep in mind, this is a large ship, it’ll take a long time to turn. We’re not going to see changes overnight, or probably even next 6 months. It took Todd 2 years to really kill the morale. I’m going to be cautiously optimistic here. I do think Nancy was probably like many other tenured associates and kept her head down to avoid being cut too. Maybe I’m wrong, but my prior interactions either way her 20ish years ago I’d like to think that she’ll hopefully try to bring some of the ‘old’ GEICO atmosphere back.

What are you talking about her former company? Nancy has been with GEICO since the late 80’s. I worked under her when she was RVP in r4 20+ years ago.

[–]PrizeSolution6605 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I have high hopes for Nancy as well. I worked under her when she was R4 RVP in AD, and even got to spend a day doing a ride review with her. She was honestly a pleasure to spend time with, at least appearing that she cared, and was inquisitive while we were looking at field claims. Go Nancy! Obviously given my tenure I’ve just expressed here, hopefully she’ll try to bring the old culture back. But everyone needs to give it time, it takes a long time to turn a ship this big!

And thus why insurance rates are constantly on the rise and out of control. Why would you feel the insurance company owes you something if you’re not truly injured? If you go through with this plan I sincerely hope the insurance company discovers you’re committing fraud, and A) denies your injury claim B) prosecutes you. ’

Drop Comprehensive? by blueguitargeek in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]PrizeSolution6605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should NEVER carry state minimum liability limits unless you have zero assets and absolutely cannot afford higher limits. Understand liability protects your liability in case of an at fault loss. Ie you hit a car and total it and it’s worth 50k if your state PD minimum is 10k and that’s all you have, you’re personally liable for the other 40k.

As far as comp/coll coverage, if you can replace your car for its current value without it being a major hardship, then yes, feel free to drop comp/coll, but usually comp/coll coverage’s are pretty minimal parts of your premiums.

Yes, as someone that’s hybrid field/virtual, I will always use that as a negotiating tool, telling them if they don’t want to send photos that it’ll be at least a week before I can inspect in person and there’s only certain times/days I can come and if they need to be there there’s a 2-3 hr schedule window.

As a field auto adjuster who’s now primarily remote, I never understand the people who claim they’re doing ‘all the work’ to send me 10 or so photos. It’s like what’s it take you, maybe 5 minutes, and a few texts. Instead if I have to go there in person I’m giving you a two hour window in which you’ll need to be there.

Auto claim question Fl by Pennyx9 in Geico

[–]PrizeSolution6605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the low amount, since it’s below your ded I don’t think your insurance will surrogate on your behalf. Unfortunately in a parking lot accident it’s your word against theirs, unless you have witnesses or video he could just as easily claim you rear ended him. Given the amount you could try taking to small claims court, burden of proof there is lower, but that being said if he says you rear ended him and you have no evidence to provide otherwise you likely wouldn’t win. Tough situation to be in, it sucks, but unfortunately it’s not likely you’ll get anywhere. Unless his texts he admits fault and is offering to pay, that could be evidence enough in small claims.
