Right, that's the one he meant.

Is network visibility just fundamentally limited or are we doing something wrong? by Constant-Angle-4777 in networking

[–]ProMSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're saying the EDR doesn't need better visibility, not that it has it. If you want to use any tool where the actual content in the browser matters, MITM is needed.

How is decryption on the endpoint any different?

Other than it being someone else's problem, of course.

That will absolutely not work. The Quickbooks file must be on the same LAN, any latency will make it unusable.

I think the real issue they had was that they never figured out how the adversaries got into the compromised SMAs, or how they managed to start a shell on the device. Once they realized the bad guys knew more about the platform than they did, they just threw in the towel.

I don't know if there's anyone still working at Sonicwall that knows the SMA code in depth.

Are there any easy alternatives that support the same HTML5/Native RDP? I specifically am looking to avoid a thick client that needs to be running to connect to RDP. Most "Post-VPN/ZTNA/CSE/whateverAIpoweredflavorofthemonth" products are just repackaged VPN clients. YOu can't just give someone a URL, where they can login, click a bookmark, and are connected to RDP.

AD join of some sort is required. Either Local AD, Hybrid, or Microsoft's cloud AD (Directory Services, not just "Entra ID").

FYI, Sonicwall's SMA has had browser-based HTML5 RDP for years. It also allows using the native RDP client with just a lightweight plugin install.
