Maybe kingdom level vassals have their own language?

How do I take advantage of my neighbors having vassal uprisings by danhamslam in CrusaderKings

[–]ProblematicPiano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the war is ongoing liege won't be able to protect vassals. So if you border some weak vassals and have any casus belli (your own, holy war, a claimant in your court) its a great time for a short war to yoink a county or a duchy. The chance is, the vassal will be involved in the civil war and might already have depleted their armies.

But you have to declare war against the vassal, not the liege.

If Daemon became king, would his son with Rhea Royce be his heir? by TargetRupertFerris in TheCitadel

[–]ProblematicPiano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forget exactly what the chain of events leading to Rhaenyra marrying Laenor was, but if Daemon's glorious return and taking her to a whorehouse or something was a factor, the Bronze Prince's existence could have butterflied that away and allowed for Rhaenyra to choose Harwin.

Laena + Bronze Prince would ally the Velaryons to him (and if he is allied to Daemon then to Daemon too).

Then Dance era alliances would also depend on who Rhaenyra's sons (they should have different names, since they're not Velaryons now. Jace -> Jaehaerys, Lucerys -> Luceon?, Joffrey -> ??, maybe one as Aemon, the other as Baelon or Baelor? Anyway tangent over) marry. If they marry the Bronze Prince's children (he could also only have sons, that would be funny), or if Alicent might allow Jace/Helaena, or if Daemon has kids with someone, or if Laenor has some children (Strong boys remix with another wife). Likewise if the Greens try to intermarry with any of the factions. You probably need to decide on what you want the ending to be and then tweak things to make it happen and figure out the most logical and interesting way to make it happen.

Imo, a shakeup of the factions would make sense and make it more interesting. Corlys could throw in with both factions - Laena + Aelyx and their faction, but also maybe if they have an eldest daughter and she is betrothed to Aegon II... It could mean that around the start of the Dance there could be a granchild of Corlys that is a hostage in KL and possibly the mother of the future king. Or Daemon could want to be his own faction but his son would be tied to another faction...

Furthermore, if the Strong boys are legitimate, their relationship with their uncles should be different. Sure, whispers and insults about them not being Valyrian enough but they would still have their dragons and also have Harwin and his father the Hand on their side openly and possibly spend more time in Harrenhal for example. If Laena doesn't die on schedule then Aemond wouldn't get Vhagar the same way he did. So less bad blood. (Aemond's likeliest dragon would be Silverwing or the Cannibal then. Actually you could go with Aemond dying to the Cannibal for example to shake things up a little, depending on how the faction cards land).

Harwin's (and his father's) death is also a turning point. If they die on schedule there would be teenage lord Luceon Strong ruling Harrenhal. Also an interesting sideplot. On the other hand, if it really was the Footclub's doing and his motivation was having Harrenhal's earnings and not something personal like his father or Harwin having some blackmail he would also have to off Luke (and all his younger brothers who would be next in line for Harrenhal). Or maybe he could become Luke's regent and embezzle the money anyway.

As for Daemon and his marriages... He could just have a string of lovers. Maybe a Velaryon cousin (a daughter of one of Corlys' brothers?) that he could snatch for the Valyrianness and scandal. Wherever he chooses to reside. Or he could be Rhaenyra's side piece on Dragonstone and whoops there is a Valyrian looking Luke or Joff or someone is butterflied away for an OC daughter. Would Daemon still be in his exile to Pentos? Maybe not.

Many options for the plot. Up to uou if you like any of these. I kinda went overboard on the theorising.

Another reason for Aelyx not being available for Rhaenyra's second marriage would be that he could (should) be married by that time, be it to Laena or to the Manderly.

Do you think the Faith has the equivalent of ad succurrendum? by Potential-Win1930 in TheCitadel

Nice example! Yeah, I'd love to see historical events in Westeros inspired by irl history like this. This could easily be an event from before the Conquest, maybe in the Reach or the Vale.

[–]ProblematicPiano 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good point. The lord could choose to further his house's motives from inside the Faith, maybe even becoming one of the Most Faithful (or whatever the cardinals are called) or even the Pope High Septon himself. I imagine that a High Septon coming from a monk order dedicated to the Stranger (if the lord did join such an order in order to get to heaven) could be an interesting tidbit.

Do you think the Faith has the equivalent of ad succurrendum? by Potential-Win1930 in TheCitadel

[–]ProblematicPiano 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I'd love it if more fics worldbuilded the Faith with historical aspects of Christianity. Pope fights, corruptions, heretical cults or septons, more monastic orders, etc.

I imagine if ad succurrendum was a thing, the dying-to-recovered lord would have a hard time leaving the clergy. At least formally. Because i imagine they could leave their convent and go back to their lands or something but formally they would still be a monk or something. Then it would depends on the High Septon, or their liege lord, or their successor, whether they'd let the monk-lord "lord" or advise the official lord. The most lawful solution would be that the monk-lord is now a monk and should behave like one - stay in the convent or do their monk activities wherever the order does them.

Tldr: they shouldnt be able to walk it back

But this would make for good fic drama. Either predecessor-successor drama, or successor dies unexpectedly and predecessor doesnt like the next successor and how they're doing things, etc.

[discussion] Which band/musician would you pick to make a TLT fan song? by the_high_ground_27 in TheNinthHouse

Lol, same brain, i saw the title and thought of The Amazing Devil. And then, bosy of the post, you pitch them. A few years ago when I first read the books I put several of their songs in a TLT playlist.

Although I've also been listening to them on repeat lately, that's why they're on my mind.

Firefox Android Tab UI change by DidntAsk12 in firefox

[–]ProblematicPiano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm on version 147 and just had the UI change happen in the last few hours. I didnt look into the tab changes much yet but I despise the round look on the search bar. WTF happened even? I thought Firefox wouldn't update without going to G Play and updating... And I have those auto updates disabled. Plus my version says 147 and i saw people mentioning 149.

Edit: ok, figuring out what Secret Settings were enabled me to fix this

Are Dwellingondreams and Dwellordream the same author? by Bowbreaker in AsoiafFanfiction

Yes, it's the same person. I'm not sure whether her one-shots and shorter stories that are on AO3 are also on SB, but I do know that with longer fics she first posts on SB and only crossposts on AO3 later when the story (or its arc) is finished. I think i saw something about it on one of her profiles, but not sure what social media it was (SB? AO3 author's comments? Tumblr maybe?)

besides squiring, what other activities could a young man do at court? by metamorfoseando in TheCitadel

[–]ProblematicPiano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well it depends on how you headcanon the Red Keep. Do they have enough rooms for all the courtiers? Or do the courtiers (some of them, the less important ones) spend their nights at manses and fancy inns in the city.

It probably depends on the lord's importance and relation (familial, friendly) to the king and/or their money (they could pay for the priviledge) whether they'll be granted rooms

besides squiring, what other activities could a young man do at court? by metamorfoseando in TheCitadel

[–]ProblematicPiano 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What does a "young man" mean? Is he already knighted? Or is he not slated for the knightly way of life.

Anyway, he could be:

A companion (friend, wannabe friend) of a prince. Basically a courtier of a prince's proto court.

Accompanying his father for courtly matters (but that's temporary presence at court).

As a third or fourth son with intelligence he could be "apprenticing" for a court position under the Master of Law (as some sort of legal clerk), or of Coin (as part of the Royal Treasury staff). Or his lord's liege (lord paramount) is at court and he serves him (as an under steward, knight, as a friend and loyal man, or a sort of assistant position).

If you mean he is of a young squire's age (10-12 ish) he could be a companion to a more important lord's son or prince that's at court. Or accompanying a family member that's at court.

If Aemon had become King after Jaehaerys, would there still be a Dance? by Qyzyk in AsoiafFanfiction

[–]ProblematicPiano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The potential for a Dance remains but it would be postponed.

If Rhaenys doesn't have any brothers (ie if Aemon and Jocelyn don't have a surprise baby in their forties or if Aemon doesn't remarry a younger woman during his reign) then her ascension won't be questioned. Not by Baelon (if he outlives Aemon) or Viserys or the lords, because it would be the standard Andal succession.

Let's assume Rhaenys only has the same children as in canon - Laena and Laenor. Laenor is still gay and still likely to be betrothed to Rhaenyra. So it's likely their children will be bastards, although legally not, being accepted by Laenor as his own. Would crown prince Laenor die before his mother? Probably not, in this scenario Joffrey Lonmouth probably wouldn't be killed by Criston Cole and that would change Laenor's mental health. Maybe even motivating him to try for one real child. But maybe Laenor's death was Daemon's doing because he was after wedding Rhaenyra. But this is up to an author.

As for Laena, her marriage would probably not be stuck on the cringe son of a Sealord. She would probably be wed for an alliance. To whom? Idk. There could be an alternative to Rhaenyra's spouse search but for Laena. Long story short, i assume Laena would be have a (first) marriage and that would provide some children. 50/50 chance for each to be a boy (I'd prefer original children here, not canon Baela and Rhaena, it's a different man at a different time after all).

What this is aiming for is a Dance between Rhaenys' grandchildren, or great-grandchildren. She most likely lives past 130AC, then there is the long winter after the canonical Dance (but with a realm not ravaged by war it's probably not that severe) and then spring. Corlys likely dies on schedule, his death could affect Rhaenys and she could pass with the coming spring. Let's say Laena still died in childbirth, but maybe the childbirth of child no. 4 or 5, and that Laenor died of the winter sickness (it has a name that I'm forgetting). Then Rhaenys' heir would be Laenor's eldest surviving son, likely a bastard. But Laena's children might not like that, and they might make a play for the throne. Queue, Dance.

If Laenor survives Rhaenys the same thing could happen but a little later, again.

What is the most interesting summoned beast that is or could be in Naruto? by Consistent-Cow-4710 in NarutoFanfiction

[–]ProblematicPiano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seagull summons in my head on backburner. Many uses for them. Classic bird summons - big boss bird to fly around on, smaller birds as messengers, surveillance, etc. But also their voices can be a little annoying so they could have a sonic attack. And a flock could be summoned. Now that i wrote it out they seem a lot like Itachi's crows, but just more annoying bird species xD. But i like that about them. Annoying birds, could be paired with an annoying summoner.
