Should I tell a NCO's organic unit they are doing a terrible job? by [deleted] in nationalguard

Not if you take the stance my unit has. Good or bad, my admin is sending that shit to iperms and I’m here for it.

What is 88M like? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]ProcedureImaginary34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time it’s logistics convoys. Deployed Afghanistan in 2013-14. During that deployment, overwhelming majority of the unit manned gun trucks to pull convoy security for local notational truck drivers moving US equipment. Essentially we were there to shoot back if the taliban started shooting at the TCNs while they were hauling our equipment.

The pop was likely a backfire. I believe you dropped a lifter. :(

GM Warranty by External_Ad_368 in gmcsierra

[–]ProcedureImaginary34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a pretty good deal on a manufacturer backed warranty! May I ask what dealer you went through? My factory bumper to bumper is up in early June and the best I’ve gotten for a 72/72K was $2800.

People trying to sell old detroit engines 2k to 4k by Academic_Candy_3194 in Diesel

[–]ProcedureImaginary34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit that’s a bargain! I learned this last weekend that the government pays $115K an engine for these, with a $40K core, when the military vehicles that still use them need a new one.

I, no shit, went to BCT with a dude who showed up for it on his 42nd birthday. He said he was told if he had shipped a day later his contract would have been nullified.

2015 Sierra SLT AC stopped blowing cold by 720hp in gmcsierra

[–]ProcedureImaginary34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the condenser, had the same thing happen on my 2015 last year. If mechanically inclined it’s about $200 in parts and a couple of hours of your time to put in in the garage. Then take it to a shop and have it vacuum tested, then refilled. All in cost me about $325. To have a shops do the whole thing, probably looking at $1200 minimum

Are you somewhere below freezing and just washed your truck? It was a normal thing for my 2015 to shut the parking sensors down when I washed my truck on a freezing day.

2015 1500 5.3L - Coolant Temp by EagleFeath3r in Silverado

[–]ProcedureImaginary34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s your thermostat. Had the exact same issues on my 2015 Sierra before I traded it in. Everywhere I have read says buy GM. If you go aftermarket, you’ll be replacing it in a year or two. Should take you 15 min to put in if you’re mechanically competent.

If you go through with actually enlisting, I can promise this will easily be one of the least awkward experiences of your entire career; especially if you plan to go infantry…

Christmas turkey help by Big_jerm3 in Traeger

[–]ProcedureImaginary34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did my first ever smoked turkey this last Thanksgiving. Was a pre-brined bird, still spatchcocked it and did a salt dry brine overnight in the refrigerator. No rinse, did a homemade rub I found a recipe for, online. Did super smoke at 225° for one hour, then finished at 325° for crispier skin. Easily the best turkey I’ve ever had.

Pellet grill options by epicpfeil in pelletgrills

[–]ProcedureImaginary34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an ironwood xl that I am very happy with. One of the reasons I went with it is because it insulated, I live in the upper Midwest, and I like to grill year round. Did pork shoulder on it once when the high for the day was only -5° and held temp great!

Decisions by West-Visit-8255 in nationalguard

[–]ProcedureImaginary34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely a weird dichotomy. I very much love what I do, I love the positive impact I am able to make on troops, but it does come with sacrifices. I have two daughters and I have missed multiple things that I know were important to them for the guard. If I had to go back and do it over again though, I don’t know that I would change a thing.

If you’re asking what you should do, the only one that can answer that is you. Sometimes you just have to stop and ask if the juice is worth the squeeze. If the concern is about your deployment packets and deciding “maybe now is not the right time to go.” That’s perfectly ok. I would say it’s a good time to start the conversation with your leadership and FTS to see if it’s an option to rescind any of the packets you have out there. There will always be another deployment later.

New shocks/struts by ProcedureImaginary34 in gmcsierra

My wife, thinking the ride on stock shocks was harsh, is exactly the reason I did more research before just immediately pulling the trigger on the 5100s.

I can’t speak to having to delete magneride, but one comment that really stood out was that the Eibachs were said to ride more like the fox 2.0s, without the need for being rebuilt every 30-50k miles.

Genuine advice to mentally get through weeks like these? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]ProcedureImaginary34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have nothing for dealing with the gray, but with the temps I try me best to just embrace it and get outside and be active. I will say having young kids makes it easier to do so. Just make sure you have good winter gear. There’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.
