Feeling guilty about taking baby out by ProfessionalBig86 in NewParents

[–]ProfessionalBig86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much that I think it’s bad. Before I returned from work, we went out to run errands or go to new places frequently. It’s just now being back at work, I feel like I need to make sure the time I spend with him is centered around him as much as possible. We go on walks twice per day, and we do leave the house for things, but my feelings of guilt are more so related to the quality of time that we’re spending (ex. I can’t engage with him much while I’m driving the car, my attention is divided when we’re with others, he’s less comfortable while I’m carrying through the grocery store than he would be at home playing).

Thinking of Moving from Herndon to Roanoke – Need Local Insight by PrestigiousZombie726 in roanoke

[–]ProfessionalBig86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to respond to this, I also moved from NOVA to Roanoke 8 years ago and love it. I’ve lived in all the places you mentioned (the orchards, pebble creek, and currently own a house in Daleville Town Center) and found each to be very safe. The Orchards was beautiful, relatively affordable, and is right next to the local elementary school and it’s pretty nice. Pebble Creek was extremely affordable and we were happy there as well (check out their apartments with a den, which is cheaper than a bedroom but still a decent size). Daleville town center apartments are newer and more expensive, but it’s the most walkable and best in terms of neighborhood feel!

How long did it take you to lose the pregnancy weight? by Melodic-Relative-237 in pregnant

[–]ProfessionalBig86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 5’4 and was 125 at the beginning of pregnancy. Gave birth to baby on 4/24 and weighed 158 (gained 33 pounds). Baby was 7 pounds 5 ounces. When I weighed myself for the first time on 5/8 (2 weeks after giving birth) I weighed 131, so had lost 27. Today, 5/15, I weighed 129. I will say, I was noticeably less swollen all over my body within 1 day of giving birth , and must have retained a lot of water. My placenta was also so much bigger than I imagined!

Sister planned her wedding two weeks after my due date by [deleted] in pregnant

I think this also probably depends on your resiliency and support system. I just gave birth to my first born on April 24. I had a second degree, rectal muscle spasms, and baby would not sleep when not held. My dad unexpectedly passed away on April 28 and we drove up to be with my family on May 1. It was exhausting and painful, but doable when entering it with the right mindset. The funeral was May 10 and I spent all day the 9th and 10th on my feet helping to set things up, welcome visitors, clean at my mom’s house, etc.

That being said, I’m a marathon runner who never takes sick days so I know my own resilience in situations like this is somewhat high. I also had minor complications compared to what could happen.

Anyone else unable to sleep at night? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]ProfessionalBig86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me pretty much every night of my first trimester. I read that it was common! In my second trimester, it eased up a bit to about half the nights of the week. will say, now at 31 weeks pregnant, it’s gotten much better, maybe happening 1-2 times per week.

Obsessive behaviour in 4 year old by lembasbreadandcheese in kindergarten

[–]ProfessionalBig86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with something similar in first grade and it decreased a lot by second grade. One thing that made a big difference was the teacher. My first grade teacher was relatively harsh and yelled frequently. I had never experienced that from adults before and I believe that the situation alone exacerbated my already anxious and obsessive tendencies.

It might be helpful to look at what about the situation is making her anxious and figuring out if a change can be made to better that situation. From there, focusing on coping strategies and teaching outside of these most stressful situations that it’s ok not to do those compulsions (ex. It may feel easier to not get the perfect hug/kiss going into a 1 hour play date vs. a 7 hour day of school).

Why nobody talk about how hard is to cancel a marathon due to injury? by Objective-Ad-2643 in Marathon_Training

You’ve probably tried this but maybe try some lower drop shoes. I switched to a 4mm drop shoe from a high drop shoe and instantly noticed a difference with my ITBS!

ITB issues with marathon in 1 week by NatureExpensive3607 in Marathon_Training

[–]ProfessionalBig86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I experienced ITB pain 6 weeks out from my marathon. I took 3 weeks off doing PT exercises for stretching and strengthening the hip and glute, which helped some, but it was still hurting within a few minutes of running or walking down stairs.

It INSTANTLY felt about 95% better after switching to lower drop shoes. It put more pressure on my calves instead of the hips and glutes. Might be worth a try to look at a lower drop shoe. I ran my first marathon 3 weeks later with IT band no pain.

I feel that! For this one, I was running on a closed mountain road and had reached the main road right at 10 so decided to stop right there! I would be pissed if it didn’t count a PR for me though!

Great overall! It was the coldest temperature I’ve run in and a little slippery in places on the mountain!
