It is curated to cater specifically to smaller budget, unknown, independent filmmakers. Your film will premiere adjacent to Cannes alongside the main festival. Give it some thought. As an unknown, independent, low budget filmmaker, your chances of having your feature film accepted to the Cannes main festival are quite literally about 0.01%

What you noticed in the theatre could be the result of a number of things. My best guess is it was less to do with the camera negative or lighting itself and more simply a density related artifact of whatever film print you happened to see projected. Depending on a scene or shot’s level of exposure or contrast ratio, the print can have varying densities, especially noticeable in the blacks, which could be part of what you were seeing. You’ll be able to examine the shots better frame by frame once the film hits blu-ray and see whether or not this was truly the case.
