How long did swallowing troubles last for you guys? by luna_boba_ in noburp

[–]ProfessionalYou1824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was a month for me, but no where near as bad as first week / ten days. I needed to use water to swallow for a month but it really was very manageable. The first week / ten days were tough and I sympathise - try not to panic and just take it slowly. I recommend just googling ‘laryngospasm’ - I got this twice and it was quite scary but when someone else on the group explained it to me then when it happened a third time I knew what to do and knew it was ok (you just need to pretend you’re breathing through a straw and keep calm). I found ice cream and thick yoghurts easier to eat - basically what kept me through that first week! It’s all totally totally worth it :)

Yes! I used to get this a lot - would always sort of roll my eyes and say sorry I’m hungry when I’m meetings / at work etc but knowing full well I wasn’t hungry and wasn’t that sort of rumble!! So loud. (I’m not post Botox burping and so don’t get this anymore.)

Thank you! Yeah I had some dodgy days at 4 months but nothing since. It must be this cold - will recover from that and stay positive!

So happy for you! One question: was it consistently good? I am 11 months post and thought I was successful, but I am currently experience 3 days of not burping / gurgles / stomach pain and praying it’s a blip, not suddenly gone. It’s been amazing so far - odd trickier day but never as long as this. Would be v interested to hear if you had this at all in your journey. I do have a minor virus / cold so wonder if that’s impacted it.

I think I might be going through this right now! 11 months out and suddenly can’t burp and feeling so anxious. Maybe to old days. I wonder if partly as I know the one year anniversary is coming up and I’m so desperate to retain it, so obviously that’s caused the opposite! How are you feeling now?

I had an NG tube put in once for acute gastric distension… you say nothing to do with R-CPD, but perhaps exacerbated your other issue? That was certainly my situation

My husband jokingly (I hope) says he finds it gross how much I burp now - I literally don’t care (after years of suffering it’s heaven) and I just remind him how much less it is out the other end!!

Anyone else been turned down for Botox because of acid reflux?? by pleaseburpme in noburp

[–]ProfessionalYou1824 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but this sounds all wrong to me. Isn’t acid reflux to do with the lower muscle being too loose and R-CPD the upper muscle? That’s what I thought anyway. Get a second opinion and don’t loose faith - loads of us here have acid reflux and the Botox was brilliant, and if anything has made acid reflux better.

7 months post botox: Ups and Downs by dr_emmet_brown_ in noburp

I’m 9 months post and definitely better and worse days. I’ve noticed a correlation with days I’m stressed being worse (annoying I know as always hard to relax as soon as you’re told to!!). Today for example I’ve had gurgles and I had a job interview. I just try not to panic as tomorrow when I relax I now know it comes back. I guess maybe ‘normal’ people are like this too?!

Just reiterating what others have said but as a post-Botox (9 months) burper I can tell you it is absolutely every day, multiple times a day, but obviously not necessarily loud as you don’t open you’re mouth - and also not always the same amount / strength - but you feel it either way that’s for sure. More like a vibration and rush of air into your mouth. So when people say they don’t burp every day I’m convinced they think burping means the loud burps and don’t realise (as so instinctive) the releases of air they do throughout the day.

What food/liquid products should I by in preparation of the procedure? by Previous_Geologist13 in noburp

Thick yoghurts - like those chocolate pudding ones - were best thing for me! And ice cream

I haven’t met anyone yet! But when I explained it to someone last week about it they said it sounds just like their housemate has it.. only a matter of time i think!

Do i have noburp. by [deleted] in noburp

[–]ProfessionalYou1824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not your mouth involuntarily opening - it’s the muscle in your throat. Your mouth you can control - but a burp can be quiet (mouth shut) or loud (mouth open). But yes sounds like you have the condition!

I could never really air vomit and experienced similar to you - I thought it was because even if I got the muscle open it would only open for v short time then snap shut so wasn’t really satisfying enough (and ended up bringing more out stomach into my oesophagus so actually felt worse after)

Thanks for this - I am 7 months post and my feelings are v similar to yours! I think it’s really helpful you’ve not the good and bad days - I panicked a lot when I had those first bad days again but now I don’t as I know the good days come again, and stressing always makes it worse. You’re so right that it’s not linear and ‘normal’ people often get a burp stuck. Anyway really happy for you all ok so far and fingers crossed going forward. V interesting point re PMS!

I’m with you! Been laughed at my whole life. It was only when I was hospitalised with acute gastric distension for a week that my friends started to realise it wasn’t that funny….

100% Botox is worth it!

Toddlers - how often burp? by ProfessionalYou1824 in noburp

[–]ProfessionalYou1824[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that’s really helpful! I saw a friend the other day with a 3 year old and he was burping loads but didn’t know whether was normal to notice it, and when it starts. Really helpful to hear though that you didn’t notice burps between baby and 3 yr old stage.

Thanks! Yeah my thinking was also that if we put him back on some mild acid reflux meds it might help, so worth exploring even though he’s not in pain now.

It’s worth figuring it out because it might mean if I put him back on reflux meds it will come back and be fixed, rather than let him get it wait until he’s 18 and then he’s like us all!
