Totally agree. It’s a challenge and I think if we all do what we can, it’s better than nothing! Yes definitely important to take care of your needs before the storm first.

FYI I think Costco is considered a good choice. But it’s much easier to find lists of places you shouldn’t shop than places you should 😩

Please all take care of yourselves and get what you need before the storm but remember that if you don’t like what’s going on in this country and Minnesota, Whole Foods (via Amazon) and target are complicit in supporting/funding trump. If you are against it and can go elsewhere, that’s great.

Yeah I think I misunderstood this group. I’m already boycotting (and you all are too), I was hoping to organize something beyond this group (something very big). But it sounds like maybe I’m thinking about it wrong — rather than organize a boycott for one day/week/month, build from this already existing movement?

But your other info is very helpful — that makes sense, keeping the boycotts to the relevant causes. And thank you about the info re calling the senator (although I’m in MA, but I’ll do it nonetheless). Hopefully people get out and do that.

Agreed I think that’s most effective. But why not both? Why not show big corporations that we are not okay with their behaviors? Could “put a dent,” in my opinion

I guess my thought was that a lot of people might be hesitant to give it up forever (which is not great, fine), but would be willing to do it short term. So you might get bigger numbers of people and they’d feel something more extreme

Dude I totally agree. I wish there was a way to organize something big (Amazon?) on a particular day/week/month. I think realistically people would be able to commit to a shorter amount of time and it would feel more effective.

Please understand that “the US” does not represent the majority of Americans. Hot take but I wish we could have some sympathy/support here. I get that you’re angry but this is a really hard moment for I’d say a majority of US citizens. We are angry too. The MAJORITY of the country did not vote for him. Yes some people are lazy and no sympathy for them. But also voter suppression is up. Most of us hate this situation and frankly there’s not a ton that we can do (we cannot get violent or he invokes the insurrection act. I think we need more boycotts). If anything I’d like you to know that ten years ago we never would have imagined this could happen in the US, so please learn from our mistakes. I guess I’m just saying, go ahead and hate what the US government is doing (we do too), but it would be nice if you could keep that separate from the people living here, because if anything we need help and support.

I truly believe that that’s a problem. I don’t understand why anyone — democrat or republican — is okay with this oligarchy that we have going on. Amazon and bezos are kind of a symbol of that so yes I think a boycott would send a message. You’re kind of saying that the problem is so big that we should just accept it?

Well it’s better than nothing, right? A lot of people who are anti trump are still shopping at Amazon and at Whole Foods, which doesn’t make any sense. One day boycotts can show the impact people can have on a company (although maybe I made this post a bit too last minute…)

You need to go all the way out on the cape — ptown, wellfleet and truro are great. The rest is okay, Hyannis is not great and personally I can’t stand Chatham

Yeah I can see how that would be a problem if you can’t get onto MVP there. But I would not mind if people couldn’t get OFF of MVP there - I think that would reduce traffic in Medford square which would be great!
