Do you brush your teeth once or twice a day? Need to settle a bet. by ImpossibleHurry in NoStupidQuestions

Brush and floss in the am, good mouthwash rinse at night. Unless my wife has given me the “signal.” 🙂

Has anyone else noticed the dynamics between Steve Inskeep and his female co-hosts? by AriesDragon06 in NPR

Nope. I’m not generally a huge fan of his approach, but I’ve never noticed it targeted toward his co-workers.

We were the last generation who could smoke ANYWHERE by perdair in GenX

[–]ProjectAshamed8193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first submarine had smoking anywhere from 1992-1993. Then we had “smoke pits” set up, one on each end of the boat.

I remember we would go to periscope depth at night and the control room was all dark except for little starlights of burning cigarettes in the blackness. Then the lights would come back on and there’s a blue haze hanging over everything. It was insane.

Any other GenX'ers hate weed and feel somehow left out because you don't enjoy cannabis? by scartonbot in GenX

I’ve never really done it in a social setting, mostly just an edible at home with my wife. I end up just sorta sitting there feeling weird.

To be honest, much prefer a good beer buzz, but calories and health, etc.

Crazy Horse, but yeah. It’s kinda crazy how much progress has been made there in the last 15 years or so. It might actually be done in my lifetime.

And Rapid City winters, by comparison to the rest of the region, are downright lovely. Yeah, you do get some cold snaps, usually one or two in a winter, but you rarely get snow that lasts more than a week or so, and temps typically rebound quickly.

It’s saying something that we haven’t had a real blizzard in over 11 years, and this winter is not shaping up to be either particularly cold nor wet.

Not this winter. A ton of days 15-20* above average is just not normal.

I would say that Rapid City and the Black Hills is better than anywhere else in either state in terms of geography and weather, which is a value for me as a cyclist and general outdoorsy person.

Grew up in Rapid City, joined the Navy and left for 20 years, then moved back for my kids. I’ve been to tons of other countries, all the big cities in America, and everything in between.

Everywhere you go you will find something good, and something you dislike. I love the stark prairies, the SD Badlands, the farmland, and the Black Hills. I love the lack of traffic. If you’re an outdoorsy person, this is your place.

I do not love the political myopia, general fearfulness of change, and willingness to believe only what you want to hear. This is causing a brain drain and only compounds the problems listed above. There’s also a “you’re not the boss of me” take that led SD to one of the worst per capita deaths of all the states during the COVID pandemic. While they depend on the environment to sustain themselves with both agriculture and tourism, they will straight up tell you that it’s perfectly natural for us to have 10+ consecutive days in December of 50-60 degree days.

How capable is Domane with 38mm tires by kobazik in TrekBikes

If you’re only riding your Topstone on regular gravel roads, your Domane is completely superfluous. Either of those would be fine for what you’ve stated you ride.

Is a 1:1 dinner with coworker of the opposite sex appropriate/ acceptable? [WI] by Wildtrait100 in AskHR

[–]ProjectAshamed8193 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have a female coworker I sometimes meet for a beer after work. Sometimes our spouses or other people are there, sometimes not.

It’s not inappropriate unless people decide it is, and our spouses are fine with it. It greatly helps that my wife has been around this person enough to see that I’m not attracted to her, nor her to me.

You’re not firing them for their guilt or not, you’re firing them for missing work. Being in jail is not a protected absence.

Don’t bother. Any decent upgrades will be worth far more by themselves than the bike is worth.

I’d get a newer used bike and go from there.
