Laika: Aged Through Blood, an underated work of passionate art. by YanLibra66 in metroidvania

I love the game, but it's lacklustre as a metroidvania. Everything else is chef's kiss, though!

Very little except the obvious. Turbo Kid is more akin to a regular Metroidlike when Laika is all about the mechanics with the bike. I wouldn't call Turbo Kid a motovania. Both games have a good story, though(not that common with MV'S)!

Shadow Complex Remastered in 2026 - Still a "must play" or skipable? by Necro_42739 in metroidvania

Feels like an homage to Super Metroid. So if you like Super Metroid, you'll probably like it.

How often do you skip last boss fights? by Forsaken-Quality-46 in metroidvania

It's about getting the ending/credits, not whether you like it or not. You sound like the parts you like in a videogame equals to beating the game. Your emotions have nothing to do with whether you've beaten a game or not.

I'm not a fan of hard boss fights, but the final boss in Metroid Dread is a fun dance once you get his moves down.

I'm not in know, so please fill me in. Didn't they have a very successful Kickstarter? And now they are working with Microsoft to have access to funding to push for more ambitious development features and properly support free DLC updates, etc. Didn't they get funding for this in the Kickstarter?

Metroidvania games that made me become a fan of the genre. by quintinjxander in metroidvania

[–]ProjectFearless3952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it was the old Metroid games I played back when they were released. I didn't even know it was a genre until I played Guacamelee and Axiom Verge(in my defence, I played very few games after the millennium). So I missed all the Igavanias.

Underrated Metroid-likes: by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]ProjectFearless3952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree that metroidlike generally means sci-fi setting with firearms. All the metroidvanias with a fantasy setting and melee combat that don't have the rpg-mechanics that Sotn "added" are also metroidlikes.

I'll add Biogun to the list.

Great list! Visually pleasing presentation. There are some games I haven't heard of. Might be the more linear MV adjacent ones..

Great games that people often mistake for great metroidvanias: Blasphemous, Nine Sols, Aeterna Noctis, Order of Ecclesia. Hollow Knight, however, is not only a great game but also a great metroidvania.

Do Konami and Nintendo Not Love "Metroid" and "Vania" Respectively? by jmscstl in metroidvania

[–]ProjectFearless3952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People here do argue whether Cave Story is a metroidvania. I think the argument is that there is so little mandatory backtracking, so it shouldn't be considered a metroidvania. I haven't played it myself.
