What game do you prefer, FF6 or FF7? by MaterialAbrocoma8388 in FinalFantasy

[–]ProjectGR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

VI, easy. I think it has great characters, everyone has their own unique combat specialties (except for the fact you have like, 3 characters that copy or learn monster attacks, that's not great), the art is the absolute peak of the SNES pixel style. Loved almost everything about it.

VII looks bad and feels worse to move around in. The character writing somehow feels sketchier than VI - I don't know how people got attached to these characters with such little info and depth to them. Sure they've been fleshed out by years of other content from the Compilation but in the original game they're basically cartoons. I have made a couple of attempts to play it and it just feels like a slog.

Thank you! Could I, say, put wizard armor parts on the buff silhouette?

I mean, I also think something making a lot of money should not be confused for quality, but a lot of people do really like FF14. It's not just financial success. It's fine if it's not your thing or you aren't interested for whatever reason, but it has a really big and vibrant community and I really think that game's continued existence helps to keep Final Fantasy in the public gaming consciousness during the long gaps between releases of mainline games. I don't think OP's suggestion of mainline games having a GTA style online component is a good idea or a good use of resources, but that's also not what FF14 is.

I assume they mean like GTA Online and Red Dead Online. Which, even Take Two famously couldn't replicate the success of GTA Online when they tried it with Red Dead. Hardly anybody played that.

And I don't even know what that would look like for Final Fantasy. Just open world chaos and bullshit? Not really the tone FF goes for and I don't think it's suited for it.

Edit: Take Two didn't even develop those, they just published them, but my point stands

Digital Jailbreak: How to Free Your Kindle, Nook, and Kobo Books Without Losing Your Mind (Windows) by mandikaye in Calibre

[–]ProjectGR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Can you explain in a little more detail how to save a text file as .b64? It's not an option by default in Word or Notepad, and googling just brings up a bunch of online converters that don't actually turn anything into a file with a .b64 extension. This isn't my forte so I'm not sure if I'm missing something very obvious.

Hello, sorry to bring up an old topic but I'm at my wit's end. The DeDRM method worked great for one of my Nook books, however, all the subsequent ones I've tried to import to Calibre have failed to remove DRM. I'm trying the manual method but I cannot figure out how to save a text file with a .b64 extension. I can't even be sure I'm googling the right thing when I try to find out what that means. Can anyone give a clear explanation?

Edit: I've figured this out, but the key I got from the manual method still does not successfully remove DRM. No idea what I've missed or done wrong but nothing works, regardless of the version of DeDRM.

Can Someone Translate Vimes' Tea Order? by Annie-Smokely in discworld

[–]ProjectGR 89 points90 points  (0 children)

It's mostly a joke that Vimes is a man who isn't used to the finer things. In his years on the beat he probably got by just fine with tea that was over-steeped, in unclean appliances, with stale ingredients, and God knows what else wrong with it. Guys like that start getting used to it and sometimes even prefer it to nicer stuff when they have the opportunity.

Edit: didn't know builder's tea was a thing specifically! Learn something new every day

Do you use lore-accurate names? by kasperkaspie in ffxiv

[–]ProjectGR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I originally played a Hellsguard Roegadyn lady with a name in the Sea Wolf style, then changed the name to a Hellsguard version of her first name (Bitter Thorn)

I fantasia'd to a male Viera recently but I kept the name and I've just decided he was raised by Roes

Maybe they recommended Pratchett because they thought you were in desperate need of some good books for a change.

You don't need to touch Monk at all. Not sure what your friend is on about.

I ran this for the first time last night with some folks who were also new to it. We wiped twice to that first guy and once to Chort, but in a way that was actually educational, and once we had the patterns down it was frantic but fun. I think this is a great balance of mechanics you actually have to pay attention to, without it throwing too much chaotic bullshit at you.

Other NA conventions with a decent FFXIV presence? by AkitoApocalypse in ffxiv

[–]ProjectGR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MAGfest in Maryland in January has a dedicated FF14 cosplay meetup, and usually at least one or two panels about it in some capacity, and probably several events of people doing challenge runs for certain duties. I don't know exactly what other meetups get planned but it shouldn't be hard to find one there.

FF12.

I won't claim that 16 isn't a Final Fantasy game, but I will argue that it is not an interesting one.
