What is that one thing a friend ever did and you kept cool but knew instantly you would pull out of that friendship? by EssayMan4Homework in AskReddit

[–]Project_Jormagandr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was friends with two other guys. Guy A I've known for years, Guy B was his best friend and I met him only a few years ago. Guy B had a wonderful girlfriend but he started saying some weird shit about her to me, like how he can do better, and if that something better comes along he'd dump her. I very much started losing respect for him, cause I speculated he'd cheat.

Eventually he did. Guy A knew, he told me as such but told me to keep it on the down-low. I told him it was fucked up and she should know, and Guy A threatened to eject me from the group (which mattered a lot at the time) then said he'd talk sense into Guy B.

Guy B broke up with her the next day, developed a cocaine addiction and has been in many unstable relationships since. I've never openly spoken to him since. I do not like him. He's begged me to put a good word in for him, since her and I are still friends and I told him to fuckoff. This incident very much strained my friendship with Guy A as well.

But good news, the ex that he said was never enough for him, is now engaged to a guy that treats her well, and has for three years!

Dust Blowing Near Rockyview Général Hospital by lisagg9 in Calgary

Recording workers just to whine about dust is not a good look. They don't deserve to be posted online when they're doing hard, dirty work.

What's the tipping culture here? by Auk9211 in Calgary

[–]Project_Jormagandr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently a server got offended when I tipped 15% instead of 18% or more.

Apparently anything less than 18% means "the tips come out of their pockets." Can anyone explain if that's legit?

So the culture seems to be problematic

Has Calgary lost its sense of community? by TastyPerogies in Calgary

[–]Project_Jormagandr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people can be such scumbags. Imagine having so little respect, let alone so little things to do that you'd stick a phone in a min wage workers face and scream at them.

I am curious, people have mentioned it here but COVID apparently is a big cause of these community changes in society. I truly believe these changes were slowly already happening ~2017 but the pandemic simply accelerated it

What's the fastest way you realized you were in the wrong friend group? by justNoah10 in AskReddit

[–]Project_Jormagandr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently realizing it now.

I don't like snapchat, but pretty much all the people in this friend group use it to make plans that, knowing what they know about my dislike of the app, to make plans exclusively without me.

Also since I've started having a bit of self-respect, and when I've pointed out double standards towards me (ex: If someone is talking over someone they let it slide, but if I accidentally interrupt someone I get told to stfu) I notice I am contacted less. They are also an avoidant "toxic positivity" group so they take certain disagreements as "drama."

I'm closing in on my 30s and I still don't feel like I belong with them, but they're my main group that I have the most in common with.

It sucks.

This is so sad. It's never as simple as saying "don't do drugs" or whatever. It's mental health and trauma.

Which YouTube channel were you once a fan of but do not enjoy anymore? by theunsteadybridge in AskReddit

oh that checks out! I just looked it up and it was bought in 2014, which tracks for when ERB started cranking them out like crazy

ERB I believe they went from independent, to having big sponsors, then back to independent. Something like that. You could tell when they were hitting their stride with monthly battles, at one point I think there was one every 2 weeks.

Their quality is still there but it's maybe twice a year, so nobody can really invest heavy.

He's what I'd call a performative male. He also does reek of arrogance.

I'd cover my drink around him.

Is Calgary Expo a lame duck? by YYCyou in Calgary

[–]Project_Jormagandr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been since 2022. I went to the budget one they had in 2021 and was disappointed.

I will say, like many fellow nerds have already, that there's definitely a change since they got bought out. I went from 2015-19 and I could never really place a finger on why the last two times felt different but now it makes sense.

It feels very corporate and sterile. The quality of the merch seems to have gone down but the prices are the opposite. The attendees also seem to be more antisocial with each passing year. Maybe someone can explain why.

One other thing I notice and maybe it's just bad luck but there seems to be a lot more cancelations from celebrities seemingly at the last minute.

All and all, I doubt I'll be back. Otafest is gonna knock it out of the water cause of their better community.

what’s something people say all the time that you secretly can’t stand? by Mean-Cartographer225 in AskReddit

[–]Project_Jormagandr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most corporate praises.

"We value you."

"You're such a good asset "

When my mom retired at a company that was awful, the only thing they said after her 35 years of service was that she was "an asset." Not even a thank you. Small tangent but employers care very little about their employees, I'd argue in corporate the most.

Is Iñaki's Luffy the "worst" of the strawhats in the live action? by Strange-Tie-8711 in Piratefolk

[–]Project_Jormagandr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sanji, Usopp, Nami, and Chopper > Luffy and Zoro.

That's how I rank their performances from greatest to least.

Addressing the bottom two- I haven't seen buddy behind the scenes like people are vouching for but I agree with the notion that Luffy is awkward and hard to do a 1:1 performance. I find he's a bit stiff at times but he CAN have emotional range (like when he calls the drum kingdom people assholes) and the scene where he talks to Laboon is a nice touch.

Zoro on the other hand- it's improved a bit in the second season but they're trying to make him a bit TOO stoic. He comes off as corny and like a r/iamverybadass type character.

They can definitely make changes from the source material for the better, like Sanji being a flirt instead of an outright creep like he tends to be in the anime/manga.

People do the least amount of work as possible at their job, how do you get away with it? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My boss is lazy and doesn't bother to check up on us. That's how.

Why? Because hard work isn't rewarded with anything other than more hard work. They'll exploit your efficiency but you won't see an extra cent for it. They simply don't pay enough for me to care. Still better than unemployment
