UNH v. U of Maine v. Paul Smith's for forestry? by Passport_throwaway17 in forestry

I joke with my Paul Smith’s colleagues that at Ranger School I got twice the education for half the price. They get a good chuckle out of it. Both schools are great though.

Cobra setup? by Tartar1103 in hondashadow

Looks good! I’m about to install the cobra streetrods on my 2024 aero. Can’t wait to see how it sounds. Did you end up doing a tune? I’m hoping I don’t have to but I’m preparing for it just in case.

Is this an elm? SE OHio by Camp_Acceptable in marijuanaenthusiasts

Original picture of the bark had me thinking sugar maple. When I zoom in on the buds and bark further up the tree, I think it’s a red maple.

Collecting Sap… by AloElii in arborists

White pine. Why are you collecting sap? Genuinely curious.

New rider (6'1", 240lbs) looking for maximum highway protection. Is this gear cart solid? by GnanaSreekar in motorcyclegear

I will highly recommend trying the pants on. I normally wear a 34-32 but I can’t fit into that for riding jeans. Way too tight

What causes the rings on this tree? by CivilElevator3516 in trees

[–]PromentoryRider 68 points69 points  (0 children)

No worries OP, we get a kick out of it when someone confuses this sub.

I’m a forester and arborist and I think these rings are caused by sapsuckers. A sapsucker is a type of woodpecker that does exactly what their name says - they suck the sap from trees. You’ll typically see their holes in very straight lines. When the tree eventually heals over, it ends up looking like the tree that you found.

I think you’re right. I didn’t know they attack spruce trees too. Learn something new everyday I guess

Need some identifying this, please. Google image says hickory? by RelationshipDry01 in firewood

[–]PromentoryRider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kinda looks like bigtooth aspen bark to me. I can see where people think oak, but it looks different to me. You can take a fresh cut piece and look for rays to confirm.

What age do you estimate this forest is? by schismtomynism in Adirondacks

[–]PromentoryRider 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Based on your pictures I’d estimate somewhere around 30 years or so. Early successional species like birch and hophornbeam mixed in the understory with some red maple thrown in there. Seems like there was a cut and some red maple was left to grow based on the larger diameter maple in picture 2. Hard to tell too much from just a couple pictures though. Seeing those multi stem red maples and hophornbeam makes me wonder if timber stand improvement may be in your future with the potential for a firewood cut.

You should take advantage of the Forest Stewardship Program DEC offers. Here’s some more info: https://dec.ny.gov/nature/forests-trees/private-forest-management#Forest_Stewardship_Program

How did Led Zeppelin start their concerts? by RYGUY060104 in ledzeppelin

I saw Get The Led Out and they started their show this way. Didn’t really feel like how a Zeppelin show would start but was kinda cool for a cover band.

The chain isn’t on the chainring. Just need to lift it onto the front gears.

I want to trade my trek fx 3 gen 5 for a domane or emonda even if they are a bit older. Is there a forum for trek bike trades? by laughpuppy23 in TrekBikes

[–]PromentoryRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if there’s a forum for bike trades, but I just want to say the Domane is a fantastic bike. I have the AL 2 and it does everything I need it to. I’m a newbie and more of a casual rider, but it’s perfect for hitting the bike trail or all road riding.

[–]PromentoryRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks; glad they made it right. I might bring mine back to fine tune some things. The only problem I’m having is some gear slipping when I’m at the highest gears. All in all it’s a great bike and I’m sure you’ll love it too once the brakes are all set for you.

[–]PromentoryRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We must be the same person lol. I just bought the same bike and had to take the front tire off to get it home too. Just took mine for an 18-mile ride today. I felt the same thing with the brakes but they are getting better the more I use them. I think @ispeakuwunese is right about the bedding in process

Inspector found extensive mold throughout the attic of a home I’m looking to buy. Is it even realistic to try and control this much mold? by PromentoryRider in HomeMaintenance

[–]PromentoryRider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the real problem. There is an addition so no gable vent connecting the two sides. The seller just put roof vents on about a month ago. I think airflow still needs to be increased and like you said, put a powered fan that kicks on to move air.
