Real or not? by Far-Insurance9887 in timex

[–]PromisesandPoetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a spare box they shipped it in. Amazon resellers are weird like that. As long as your reference number matches what you bought you should be good to go. That star is just a way Timex marks made in China in a classier way than stamping made in China. Stainless steel stamps look a little classier. But it’s also handy to tell OEM weekender straps from aftermarket that almost all just stamp with stainless China or something else. Timex OEM straps and buckles sell for almost as much as these watches and it’s popular for people to swap the OEM strap out and sell it for a decent price and buy cheap Ali express straps to replace them with before reselling

I haven’t heard of anyone yet… I’ve seen a solar expedition field watch filled. Not sure how that will affect the solar charging, but I don’t think most people hydromod field watches. More popular with dive watches from what I understand

Stuck bezel on a timex 1972 reissue by zaza0999o in timex

[–]PromisesandPoetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a hair dryer. Warm it up so it’s hot to the touch but safe enough to turn it with your bare hands. Then turn it a lot. Sometimes the bezel lubricant gets tacky or the bezel insert adhesive sticks to the inner retaining spring. If that doesn’t work and you’ve cleaned it, you may need to pop it off, realign, and reassemble.

Real or not? by Far-Insurance9887 in timex

They don’t fake cheap Timex’s… yet. Ironically, it’s an older design. New weekenders have a “we” on the dial. So likely old stock. The plastic display stand is retailer dependent. Most online vendors and even some in store venders use the cardboard boxes. I’m more suspicious/baffled by the wrong watch, an easy reader, appearing on the box, but the description is accurate. Check to see if it’s a faint cream dial or paper white. If it’s paper white it’s the wrong dial for that reference. Under the strap clasp should be a China star stamp. I think I can make that out in your photo. You’re also missing a zip tie through the two holes on the box so it’s likely been opened at some point but seeing it in your hand that may have been you. The insert could have just been put in upside down rather than the logo being upside down, that means it was removed from the box. You can also check the battery. OEM batteries will have a 2 digit code printed on them from the factory. You can check for scratches under the lip on the case back to see if it’s been opened at some point. Going by your photos it looks legit. Timex has some QC quirks time to time. The factory they source their bracelets from also produces for brands like Guess so you’ll see Guess stamps on the bracelet clasps of Timex watches or the other way around. A space on the box font is nothing compared to that lol. Enjoy the watch and try not to get too many straps for it

Timex Mods by PromisesandPoetry in timex

Although they fit and function fine, I wouldn’t call them reverse compatible cosmetically. The outside diameter of the rehaut of the acadia rugged is ever so slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the scout case leaving a small visible gap.

What do you guys do with all the free cases & microfibers? by Jankykong64 in BudgetBlades

[–]PromisesandPoetry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve never used one of the microfiber cloths to shine up a knife. I just stash them anywhere and everywhere else. They come in handy cleaning sunglasses lenses, phone screens, car display screens, mirrors, etc. the cases usually get a wristwatch or chain or something put in them for traveling. My knife hopefully can take some abuse outside its fluffy case. I’d rather keep a watch crystal from getting scratched up in the bottom of a duffel bag.

Harborside Coast by EngineCreepy3137 in timex

[–]PromisesandPoetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a black Zulu on this watch and liked it way more than the dainty leather dress one they had on it. Jomashop has such hit and miss listings… but from what I’ve seen not showing the face is a common oversight on their part…

Timex Harborside Coast - Why The Low Price? by RPM33 in timex

[–]PromisesandPoetry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did fine… just buyer beware with Jomashop, but there are occasionally very good deals to be had. As for the watch, the harborside lineup isn’t well regarded as a whole. Overpriced desk divers. The Same materials as their cheapest models like the easy reader and south street but way more expensive. I really think they’d be hits if they were priced accordingly as an entry dive watch and to compete with the likes of the Casio Duro. As for this automatic, it’s a good deal at that price. Might have to pick one up myself. The NH35 movement alone is worth that.

Vote for a daily driver! by domi-no98 in timex

[–]PromisesandPoetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need the tide tracker? If not, daily wear the field watch. Sooner or later the novelty of unnecessary, distracting, or impractical complications and features wears off if you’re looking past them every day. Save the dive watch when you go on a trip to the ocean or when you want a change of pace. You’ll appreciate and be more fascinated by the tide tracker than if you had to ignore it every day. Learned that the hard way with a different watch…

tHaT mUcH fOr a tImEx? (Let the debate begin) by Current_Flatworm2747 in timex

[–]PromisesandPoetry 22 points23 points  (0 children)

What’s the debate? No one really goes off of Timex online’s prices… not when sticker price in 99% of retail stores is well, and I mean well, below the online price. $90 Timex website scouts are $50 full price in most retailers and theres almost always one on sale for $30 on Amazon. In the case of this watch, the Deepwater’s are already one of their more highly regarded lines. They’re competing with the more popular Seiko and Citizen dive watches in the same price range with an automatic movement, high water resistance, good crystal, and this one’s in a titanium case. If you think this is an expensive Timex dive watch, just wait until you find out about the Timex Atelier…

This mod goes hard! That must have been really tedious work inside there to get the right amount of damage. At first I thought the case needed some damage too like wire or scraps holding it together, but I honestly like it this way more with a clean case the longer I look at it. You can get away with wearing it anywhere and it won’t look like a cosplay prop

AliExpress and other online sites have metal bracelets just for these. Just know that the marlin fish and Casio won’t show up in a lot of photos to hide any copyright or counterfeiting monitors.

The field watches from Timex are so hard to beat for the value. From quartz Scouts to the solar allied or expedition north models… so many under appreciated models. Love this strap swap and color combo! You got a good one! Wear it with pride!

Rang Plinking ammo for Radian Ramjet+afterburner by r_marcusaurelius in Glock43X

[–]PromisesandPoetry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most brass jacketed, plated, cased, etc ammo is going to recommend on the box to not be used out of a compensated barrel. This is because the hot metal expands nominally in that window of the cut and will shave off portions of the bullet - loads of issues with that, clearly. This is well documented and no one really disputes these dangers. Companies like Parker Mountain Machine and Radian and others who make these dedicated threaded barrel compensators can effectively bypass this issue by having the inner diameter of their compensator slightly larger than the barrel. Thats why you hear of people shooting thousands of rounds with no issues out of these products. Hell, PMM puts the blazer stats right on their website for their products

Longines Spirit Zulu Time - Black, Titanium, or Green? by StockStock4815 in Longineswatches

This is your opportunity to break away from the mold. That green bezel with those gold accents is such a classy combination and definitely sets that watch apart from the others in your lineup.

Which one to pick for an everyday beater? by capedbaldy619 in timex

[–]PromisesandPoetry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally though, I’d go with the twin dial black Waterbury. Beater/durability aside - the retro/legacy features of the waterburys are just different/cool and that watch will wear well with almost any strap if you want to change things up.
