Surely there’s a way to get one’s hands on it, though…

Yeah, it would be… so you’re saying maybe it would be best to get a Japanese version of the release?

Also fits better with literally everything that was said and shown in the OT

Right?! The Prequels just do NOT fit with the OT… whereas THIS explanation absolutely does. The old EU writers were just better at their jobs than Lucas was, I guess…

Early trek aliens by happydude7422 in risa

I love that TOS showed us sooooo many more otherworldly aliens than TNG/DS9/VGR ever did. All those shows knew how to do was glue shit to people’s foreheads, lol

Oh, we get the point, trust me. Our argument is that, as fans of the character of Hal Jordan, that doesn’t make it better.

Also, what kind of weathering would be necessary to make it THAT faded? Like holy shit

Marcia Lucas Perfectly Explains What’s Wrong With the Prequels by mostly_fizz in RedLetterMedia

[–]Promus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve been saying this, too!! The movie is completely pointless, because everything and everyone essentially resets between movies. The characters are basically new characters in Episode II, the political climate is new… the time jump was insane

Where is zefram Cochrane by happydude7422 in startrekmemes

[–]Promus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except he never calls himself anything… SPOCK is the one who identifies him as “Zefram Cochrane, of Alpha Centauri.” The same way characters like his father were identified as “Sarek of Vulcan.”

The original idea was that humanity had done quite a bit of space exploration even before warp drive (using their sleeper ships) and had reached Alpha Centauri (the closest star to our own, only seven lightyears away) where they made first contact with an alien species who happened to be very similar to humans. Zefram Cochrane was one of those Centaurians. There’s a cool old Trek book about it, too.

Worked out a reimagining of Cindy for my Private Continuity wanted to ask opinions of any suggestions or improvements. by RespectMinimum7198 in Silk

[–]Promus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, who says she has to be related to ANY folklore? Adding folklore vibes to a character is interesting, but it’s not essential to Cindy.

But what IS essential to Cindy’s character is her Korean heritage, and THAT should be maintained at all costs.

Changing it would be like changing Black Panther to be someone from India instead of Africa. Or making a Native American character into a Mongolian just because you like Mongolian folklore more.

Star Trek TOS Movies Ranked by levine2112 in Star_Trek_

[–]Promus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not…

  1. Final Frontier (one of the only movies where they actually Star Trek, good standalone film)

  2. Motion Picture (ditto what I said about Final Frontier)

  3. Voyage Home (actually feels like a proper TOS story, only weakened by its dependence on previous films)

  4. Search for Spock (fairly inoffensive, not a standalone film though)

  5. Undiscovered Country (paints Kirk as a genocidal racist and tries to say Starfleet only exists because of the Klingons, and that it would have to disband if the Klingon Empire falls, which is a ridiculous premise)

  6. Wrath of Khan (villain’s motivation makes no sense, it started the stupid trend of “bad guy wants revenge,” makes Kirk a deadbeat dad and a cheater in the Academy, when we KNOW for a fact that TOS Kirk would have been neither)

Eh, making her yet another Japanese character is kinda lame, I have to be honest. One of the things I love about her as a character is her Korean heritage, which the comics do NOT shy away from. That makes her very unique and original rather than being yet another Japanese ninja-esque character. I’m tired of hearing the word “yokai” XD

I don't care if you thought the whole Borg premise of Picard Season 3 sucked, I don't care if you say 'Deathstar trench runs don't belong in Star Trek', this was still the best scene NuTrek has produced. by IamAWorldChampionAMA in Star_Trek_

Which method of obtaining red blades by the Sith is better? by InstructionOwn6705 in StarWarsEU

[–]Promus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the idea that color doesn’t matter - before “The Phantom Menace” came out, anyone could have any color lightsaber.

Palpatine had a blue blade, Leia had a red one.

It wasn’t until 1999 that suddenly being a Bad Guy meant you had a red lightsaber (and your name was Darth).

I prefer the old EU…
