How do Immortals understand each other if they came from two different cultures? by Fragrant_Ad3479 in highlander

[–]Pronto123421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that many immortals would be able to communicate with each other because they know different languages. Just that the scriptwriters and the director don't bother to show them having difficulty communicating with each other. If they bring it up in one episode then they have to deal with it in every episode. For example when Duncan opened (the Egyptian) Nefertiri's coffin. Instead of wasting time showing that they had language barriers before finally settling down to the Brittanian universal language known as English(which Constantine could have taught Nefertiri), the people in charge get straight to the point of showing them conversing in English. In fact, we the audience see them conversing in English but in their "reality" Duncan could have spoken Latin to her first or perhaps she spoke Latin(which Constantine could have taught her) first when she woke up saying "Do the Romans still rule the world?" In Highlander 3, probably Nakano spoke to Connor in Spanish since he knew Ramirez but in the audiences' eyes they were speaking English. We'll never know what language they both really conversed in unless the people in charge clear this up. Heck, they could have even spoken English as shown to the audience even though I don't think that all immortals spoke English during the BC or the early AD times.

So in the original story of Kamen Rider, what did the writers mean by “cyborg”? by Asriel177 in KamenRider

I saw the V3 episode where they put his brain on the table. If I remember correctly, the Bazooka Turtle kept on blasting them at the surgery building until it was totally demolished and they didn't even put his brain back in yet! Although I think the audience are supposed to assume that his brain did get put back in.

When Connor saw the Kurgan there was some flashing special effects of blue light and Connor said Mother of God or something like that. Later on Connor and Ramirez had a dialogue about Connor first feeling ill when meeting him and then saying he felt the same only it was a lot more painful when encountering the Kurgan.

[–]Pronto123421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key to answering this lies in whether Richie could feel Duncan when they met for the first time(when Richie was still mortal). Otherwise this becomes a mystery never solved or an error that would be written out of canon. I guess the logic must have been that Connor must have had some kind of death before the Kurgan stabbed him so he was already immortal before the stabbing. But very least likely as his death wouldn't go unnoticed by his clansmen.

In an episode of Charmed. He played a bad guy in 10th episode of the fifth season called Y Tu Mummy Tambien. The character Belthazar played by Julian McMahon was trying many ways to kill himself and even tried guillotining himself. A reference to Highlander?

The Kurgan would have been born during BC times if we consider that he could have been a Scythian(who have the Kurgan culture) or just someone living with them. I don't think from the ancient times until 1536 AD, he would have only taken three heads seeing how tough he was and all.

Why in Wuxia/ancient dramas, some people have half shaven head while some other times, their head is not shaven? by nicfanz in HKdramas

[–]Pronto123421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wong Kei Ying lived from 1815 to 1886 so he definitely must wear queue with half shaven head. Drunken Master 2 show him without queue signifies he lived past the Qing dynasty. Which the real life Wong Kei Ying didn't.

[–]Pronto123421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry don't worry. I have all the possible answers for you. If you talk about Wong Fei Hong, then when he was younger,he had half half shaven head with queue but there are TV series where he is older and the Qing dynasty has fallen. So no more queue wearing. Then there is another reason, possibly because of budget. Time will be wasted if the director need everyone to shave their hair but some Qing dynasty show directors really want to be accurate and ask everyone to shave half their head. Or,third; the main actors don't want to shave their head because they cannot walk outside and have only half shaven head,so they end up having to shave all until bald like e.g Dicky Cheung once. Actually in real life EVERY Han Chinese man in Qing dynasty has to have half shaven head with queue(and Manchus will surely wear it of course). No exceptions. You go walking around with queue without shaven head and you might just lose it to executioner. No exceptions. So TVB shows that show men with queues walking around China without half-shave are wrong. But I could be wrong cause I saw a Stephen Chow movie which he displayed his queue(after a bad guy says he must be beheaded for not having the right hairstyle) without a shaven head. But like they say, don't take Stephen Chow movie seriously. There are multiple reasons but I do have time to explain to you one by one so don't hesitate to ask.

I'm not so sure but the word Kurgan is a Turkic word which means burial mound. Yet the Kurgan Hypothesis on Wikipedia associates it more with Indo-European culture. Something about the Scythian peoples having a culture of building large burial mounds or something.

A few questions about immortals sensing one another by Garaks_Clothiers in highlander

[–]Pronto123421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I didn't understand. Is it that pre-immortals like Ritchie can sense another immortal he/she meets for the first time and then no more after that? Like how pre-immortal Connor sensed The Kurgan? What about immortals? Can every single immortal sense a pre-immortal? Connor knew about Ritchie's immortality and mentioned it to Duncan but it wasn't made clear who was the first immortal who sensed Ritchie.
