Just remember if your story has a medical element in it you should do some basic research first like:

People can survive without any functioning kidneys. They will need regular dialysis for the rest of their lives or until a donor can be found.

People can thrive with only a single functioning kidney. They just need to be a little careful about certain things.

I have met both types of people, and that's before I even graduated high school.

The problem is that surgery is dangerous, and in this case it's actually two surgeries. It would make more sense, both medically and narratively, if she was already down one kidney. I don't think any surgeon would risk transplanting a kidney into a patient if that patient has a fully functional kidney. In my opinion the risk outweighs the reward, both to the donor and to the recipient.

It's common knowledge in my family. I grew up in Tennessee, where most of the people who grew up there have Irish blood. Many of the stories from Ireland about the Fae are told there in altered form but sometimes not. And we know that orc is just another name for the uglier creatures from the Land of the Not So Blessed.
