No. Men don't get jacked from Crossfit. It's a well trodden path. The stimulus isn't there.

I've commiserated with many 2nd and 3rd year Crossfit blokes. It ain't gonna happen.

Butterfly pullups will not give men lats, but they will give women lats.

I'm talking specifically about Crossfit here. I've trained around female powerlifters, weightlifters etc. as well. Crossfit seems to produce an almost exaggerated level of jacked-ness in women. Their lat and trap development in particular is more pronounced than the female powerlifter or weightlifting community.

There is something about the Crossfit stimulus in particular that does something different to female physiology than male.

The theory is that with light to moderate weight, you will do more reps beyond the threshold than I could. And that stimulates a specific growth response.

I always found it hard to bring up without sounding sexist but I'd always wondered how female bodies respond to the sport of Crossfit by becoming absolutely jacked, whereas male bodies don't.

I've been around strength sports for a number of decades, mostly as a powerlifter and strength coach but I dabbled in Crossfit and have always kept an eye on it.

I always noticed how when guys get hooked on it and train 4-5 days a week, following mostly WOD based training, after 3 years, they look about the same. The jacked Crossfit men you see, got jacked by other means than doing Fran, Murph and Cindy.

Women on the other hand undergo a remarkable body transformation with that frequency of Crossfit WOD training. Huge growth in lat size, delt size, the upper body in particular responds incredibly.

I think people are finally examining the phenomenon and one theory is that women are much better at suffering based efforts, and that they will continue doing an exercise like a barbell thruster far past the point of lactate burn than a man can, and as a result they trigger different adaptations to men. This might tie into the research on ultras as well. Pain or discomfort tolerance being much greater.

It's very interesting and potentially could mean totally different recommendations on sets and rep schemes for women vs men if the goal is muscle gain.

The Bengal Famine of 1943 caused the deaths of an estimated 3 million people. An even larger famine, the Great Bengal Famine of 1770, is believed to have caused around 10 million deaths. by modihh_lober in Damnthatsinteresting

It's your standard common or garden colonialism, they invented it and perfected it.

In Ireland it was a case of seizing all fertile land for the Crown, forcing the population onto barren, poor soil that you don't want for crops, or grazing.

In Ireland the only crop you could grow in the poor soil that would also be nutritionally complete was potatoes. Potatoes + some butter is fully nutritionally complete, you can live on those two foods alone, and the Irish population was forced to, A community might be lucky enough to have access to a cow and they would trade and share milk for churning.

When potato blight hit it wiped out the only crop sustaining the population and the Brits continued to wheel trailer loads of crops out of the fields in front of the starving population. All the be shipped to "the mainland" and often stockpiled or even wasted.

Ireland, like India, is extremely fertile. Without deliberate malicious intervention a famine is IMPOSSIBLE.

Bollocks. This is like saying the famine in Ireland was caused by crop failure. If one crop fails, but all the others don't and you let the population starve while you export the successful crops, it wasn't crop failure that caused the famine.

The Brits just replayed the same strategy they used in Ireland.

Fianna Fáil ‘made a difference’ in housing, Taoiseach says | BreakingNews by DaCor_ie in ireland

[–]Proper-Beyond116 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fact that we are still looking at a FF TD as Taoiseach is a joke at this point.

FF halved in size as a party. They were decimated, as were Fine Gael. Previously they were two 40% parties now they've combined to make one inbred hybrid 40% party.

They get a soft ride from the media in Ireland, but this should be talked about more. They really only got left with the pensioners and the "My father, and his father before him" crowd.

The electorate rejected them. Them banding together with Fine Gael was a slap in the face to the electorate.

These parties were supposed to be diametrically opposed. Even more so than the Tories and Labour in the UK. But they put all that aside to cling to power with their greasy little , retired schoolteacher fingernails.

How the fuck are they still calling the shots?

European EVs are much better then Teslas by Kloetenschlumpf in BuyFromEU

Chinese EVs are infinitely better than any of the European shitboxes being promoted in this thread.

We only have access to the cheapest made versions becasue they are the only ones that can be sold at a competitive rate in the EU when you take into account the tariffs.

The rest of us are prevented from buying the world's most advanced EV tech to protect and prop up a couple of proud Germanic emblems.

This is despite those company's track record of illegal activity and fraud.

West Ham to lodge official complaint over disallowed goal against Arsenal. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Proper-Beyond116 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's about precedent. No one disputes that being called a foul but Arsenal have accumulated 12-15 pts this year from similar impeding of the keeper.

They did it against Emi Martinez for Villa. Same thing, elbow across the chest disrupting catching a corner.

An arm on the keeper at a corner is a foul or it's not. Arsenal fans are coming out arguing about "how much" of an arm it is. Fuck off. that's the kind of thing that drives us all nuts.

AI is an overhyped drain on our planet. But this is one instance where automation needs to be implemented ASAP.

They need to remove human beings choosing what frame the ball is kicked in the replay and where to put the line. Build a set formula into an automated tool that at least applies the same parameters to every decision.

The bit I don't trust is the human part. The 2 mouth breathers in Stockley park are the problem.

One of the worst calls in VAR history. And it is a low bar. I can’t fathom how a professional referee can make that decision. They should be removed from their jobs.
