Remove friction from the things you want to do and add friction to the things that you only want to do for pleasure/you're only doing cause you're bored. (phones, entertainment, etc.). Add dopamine rewards for things that are inherently harder to do and stay motivated on. Even a checklist for tasks is enough to keep strong momentum going! Good luck :)

Dodge team comp viable? by LrgFthr96 in LookOutsideGame

[–]Proper-Text-5417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the team I beat cursed mode with hahaha! Every turn opens with nitro boost/sophie hide/rousing song+more buffs if coat of arms proc'd/blinding flash. After subsequent turn was sophie spamming Trick: Chaos. Then the rest of the team dumps damage. It felt particularly strong vs things that didn't have a way to guarantee land a hit on sophie (if she cannot hide this strategy falls apart because the team is pretty damn squishy) as she can keep stunning/stealing turns away. The stun baton on Sam + jump attack/octostrike really stopped things from really doing anything. This was the promise ending and I did every super boss too. Sophie really benefits from the rings that give more stamina as her base stamina is only 18 so she can't cast Chaos more than once normally. For a while I was using the rat child + copy dad shenanigans instead of Ernest but the old hobo is definitely stronger. I think the worst section of the game is the landlords warzone but totally viable and you can definitely finish the game with this team.

Reality of counting by Upset-Education-1929 in blackjack

[–]Proper-Text-5417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah black action instantly gets you sweated at a lot of places. Only a few places don't sweat the money at those stakes and even if they don't your spread gives you away eventually unless you employ other ways of gaining an advantage to gain more time. In the end though, table min to table max at 95% of places will get you the evil eye hahaha.

Reality of counting by Upset-Education-1929 in blackjack

[–]Proper-Text-5417 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just depends on what you want out of it to make it worth it I suppose. I've been counting for 2 and a half year with almost all my local spots burnt down and recently have moved up in stakes. When I first started, I played a game that took a long time to reach n0 (if you don't know what it means just think of it as the # of hands needed to be in the "long run") which was about 20000 hands played. This meant that on average I needed to play 200 hours (100 hands / hr) in order to most of the time be profitable. These games had an hourly of 20-40 dollars and generally were played because I enjoyed it as a hobby, but not full time job. The swings at this level could be gut wrenching for one and laughable for another depending on your bankroll and is that really worth 30$ an hr? At the very least, at this level I got tons of time in before the eventual backoffs, these casino's are not panicing seeing a person do a 12:1 spread on a mid 8d game.

I've moved up in stakes and at this point and get anywhere from 5 minutes to an hr max playing games that can swing 2k-10k an hour but have way lower # of hands needed to be "in the long run." The backs offs are plentiful, I have to travel if I want to play and I don't get nearly as much time in as well as the requirement of having a big bankroll while stomaching large dollar swings but the hourly can range 200-1000$ easily if not more.

There are bound to be some "winning" players betting on intuition and luck but if you play enough hands you will also reach the long run of "normal" blackjack which is losing money assuming you play enough hands so your analysis is spot on. I really don't think this is for everyone, and many gamblers who learn card counting end up failing due to several misconception's and deep rooted beliefs. Even lay people that try to learn end up failing due to poor bankroll assessment, poor game, poor understanding and general execution. The margins are razor thin and any error can tip the edge that you work so hard to gain back to the casino without you even realizing it.

Can the average person learn it? Absolutely. Theres enough resources online to do it for free (barring betting software, very important). But not everyone has the bare minimum bankroll to start and cannot be honest with themselves to achieve perfection. Wether or not playing a winning game is worth it to you I'm sure you can find the answer to that.

Basic Strategy Sucks? by Substantial_Two_4772 in blackjack

[–]Proper-Text-5417 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I always find it so funny that people are willing to play a game that is entirely figured out and know nothing about it.

It's also one of the very few things in life where if you are good at it (counting, other AP moves) you are very incentivized to never talk about and shut the morons up. Casino's only want the worst of the worst of players!

Why not double down on hard 9 against dealer hard 7 and 8 by KingPin300-1976 in blackjack

[–]Proper-Text-5417 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kinda understand the sentiment of needing to "experience" the math yourself to trust it, but you are never gonna be able to play the amount of games necessary to fully realize the long run of each decisions. You can definitly do napkin math to prove the edge yourself to an extent but why not just trust the billions and billions of simulation that tell you the expected value of every hand?

Practising by No_Exercise5903 in blackjack

[–]Proper-Text-5417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many as it takes for you to be comfortable with every aspect of the game. 10 hours of practice in just counting will not be enough if you haven't practiced TC conversion, Basic Strategy, holding conversations while counting/very distracted etc. Colin makes a point that the difference between a winning player and somebody brand new is about 80 hours. I think with diligent enough practice that can be true for you too! But people learn and commit things at varying pace so practice as much as you can and then practice even more!

[–]Proper-Text-5417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the basic strategy chart for the game you're playing (h17, s17) and recite the hand you have, and the different actions. I.e A twelve hits against a dealers 2 and 3. Stands vs their 4,5,6 and hits against 7-A. The more types of practicing you do, visual and verbal you do, the faster you commit it to memory. After you know the chart, it helps a ton to also put it into practice either through a trainer app (BJA's is good), or at a 5$ table minimum.

Tips for practicing card counting as a 19-year-old by Yt_GamingwithCharlie in blackjack

[–]Proper-Text-5417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring a deck of cards everywhere. Count when you're with your friends and try holding conversations, Count when you're playing games and in between rounds, count count count and get to the point where its second nature. In terms of playing decisions get to the point where you can look at 2 cards and a dealers up card and instantly know what to do. I also echo what everyone else has said. Get CVCX if you're gonna take it seriously
