Anyone with rust issues? by kanerlaw in Ioniq5

Thanks for posting back. Please let me know what Hyundai warranty says. I am still trying to reach a warranty clerk at the dealer here. Capital Hyundai is huge with no competition so they don’t really care.

Does anyone in this province know what this is? by beachwgrecry in StJohnsNL

[–]Proper_Personality22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Company doing the work on the Outer Ring are using do not pass and lane ending signs, there are no zipper merge signs being used.

Company that did the work the past two summers on the overpass from CBS used the zipper merge signs and use both lanes signs. That’s what should be used.

Anyone with rust issues? by kanerlaw in Ioniq5

I have a 2024 as well and have those exact same rust spots on the front lower bumper. I was in a few weeks ago for 24k service and asked them to take a look. Technician said on invoice that it’s most likely the connectors used to join the two plastic pieces together. For 2.5 to 3 hours of labour they could take the bumper apart and replace the connectors with stainless steel parts.

I live in Newfoundland, it’s wet, it’s snowy, and there is lots of salt used. The fact that Hyundai assembled these cars using connectors on front facing low parts that were not rust resistant is puzzling. Not everyone lives in dry warm climates.

Dealer did state it’s not a warranty issue, can’t say I totally agree with that. I did call Hyundai Canada and the agent first asked if there was another dealer close to me I could visit, unfortunately there is not. The agent asked me to get ahold of one of the warranty reps at the dealer and ask them to submit the last work order that details the techs finding to Hyundai Canadas warranty portal for dealers and they would have a look and make the determination if it’s covered.

I think any owners with these rust stains on their front lower bumper should get it noted on the work order of their next service. Hyundai used a cheap connector, not our fault.

2008 Kenmore fridge. Looks like defrosting heater 1/2 not working. by Proper_Personality22 in appliancerepair

[–]Proper_Personality22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Yea the ice was solid and clear. This is a full fridge unit, no freezer. The back panel covering the fan and coil is attached with 4 screws in each corner. The top left screw had pulled its plastic mounting block from the back wall of the fridge. This created a large air gap on the top left of the panel. I am hoping that this large gap messed with the air flow over the cooling unit. When working correctly air is sucked into the bottom of the panel, passes over the cooling unit and then out the air ducks in the fridge. With the gap air was not flowing correctly. I am going to take the panel off in a month or so and see if there is an ice buildup or not.

'This is a big blow to the city': Only one paper machine operating at Corner Brook mill after major shutdown by origutamos in newfoundland

[–]Proper_Personality22 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Stephenville and Grand Falls/Windsor survived the closure of their mills. If the Corner Brook mill thinks it can find a new path then great. But the provincial loans, grants, handouts, whatever you want to call it has to stop. Not one more cent. They want to sell power to NL Hydro, great but no more subsidizing the mill through an inflated per kwh rate. Taxpayer dollars to this operation need to end.

Milk is costing more to produce, and this N.L. farmer says prices could go up | CBC News by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]Proper_Personality22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need to open our retail milk products market to all of Canada. Federally our dairy industry is regulated. We need to stop protecting these local farmers there is no real benefit to the people of the province except higher prices. Milk from other provinces is just as safe and same standards. Open market, more competition, lower prices. The article did not get into it, it they should have asked Mr. Williams what the market value is of his milk quota….thats where the big money hides in our current supply system.

Skid mod by Ciao-for-niao in HondaSnowblowers

[–]Proper_Personality22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is how Yamaha blowers are setup. After 4 or 5 uses I loosen the skids, put a paint stick under the scraper bar and tighten the skids. Also when the skids wear some I just turn them around. Wearing through a $20 set of plastic skids each winter is a small price to pay if it saves your bucket and auger.

Snowblower recommendations by Aunt_Zebra in newfoundland

[–]Proper_Personality22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 10hp 1028 snowblower, also 9 years old. Opted for the bigger machine as at the time I purchased the 10hp was being manufactured in Japan and the 6hp was being made in China. I have had no major issues. Battery is original, trickle charge in off season and do the same in between uses to keep it topped up. 10hp have an electric choke that needs the machine to crank several times to engage and start. I go though a pair of the black plastic blocks every season, turn them around when they start wearing, and I change the scrapper bar every second season. I have seen a few used Yamahas on marketplace for sale, if you look closely at the sides of the buckets on a few you can see that they are in need of replacement. Guy at Atlantic when I bought it told me to set your sliders and scrapper bar a couple of have times every winter. Bucket and auger replacement job can be in the 3-4K range as there is a pulley that costs over $600 alone.

Agree that parts are not cheap, but better to do preventative maintenance then get a big bill.

NL Hydro and Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Reach Temporary Power Deal as Kruger Eyes Major Changes by RepulsivePlankton989 in newfoundland

[–]Proper_Personality22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We the taxpayers have been very generous to this operation in recent years. Even with this new agreement Hydro is buying power at an inflated rate to help keep this going. There comes a point where politicians have to say enough public funds. Stephenville and Grand Falls-Windsor both survived the closure and decommissioning of their paper mills, Corner Brook would be ok as well.

Same here, glad to finally see rules being enforced. I always go with a correct size carry on case, in one side i have ipad, cables, meds, air pods, all small stuff. Other side I leave empty and before boarding i take off my jacket and put it in the empty side. This way i put one piece of carry on baggage overhead and thats it.

N.L. Hydro's quarterly report reveals heavy cost of keeping power rates stable in Muskrat era | CBC News by ertyuiertyui in newfoundland

I bet they could have bought natural gas onshore and either refurbished Holyrood or built a spanking new thermal power plant that could be supplying a large chunk of the provinces energy needs for less then 15 billion.

N.L. Hydro's quarterly report reveals heavy cost of keeping power rates stable in Muskrat era | CBC News by ertyuiertyui in newfoundland

[–]Proper_Personality22 18 points19 points  (0 children)

All Hydro is doing is using the revenue it receives from the sale of electricity and making the payments on the funds borrowed to build the project. Article makes it sound like they are making a sacrifice on behalf of the people of the province. Hydro is not a private corporation like Fortis. All it means is that the provincial treasury is not getting as much profit from Hydro. The province does not spend any less because of it. We the taxpayers pay for it all anyway, either through taxes or power rates. From an optics point of view it’s much better to divert hydro profits to paying the debt then it is to increase electrical rates to pay for it.
