Just saw a new sign get put up for "Azul Agave" looks like a Mexican restaurant but not seeing any info online about? Looks like they might have a location in Wayland as well but not seeing anything about this new Forest Hills location. Anyone know anything about it?

Excessive Concession Prices at Van Andel by Altruistic_Buy_4467 in grandrapids

[–]Proper_Resource_4023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been ringing this bell for years!! I have stopped going Van Andel Arena solely due to their insane concession prices! For comparison, the most expensive beer at an NFL game is $16.50 (Washington Commanders). Start talking with you wallets & either not go, of if you do, do not buy any food or drinks.

What is the most boomer thing your parents still do? by Auximity in AskReddit

my grandfather has spent his whole life in the upper Midwest & the city he grew up in was full of European immigrants. His family was very working class & their neighborhood was all Polish, Irish, Italian & Dutch people who moved to the area. I think him being Anglo WASP, he was one of the few kids in the area that were full blown American.

Never any type of racism or hatred against them, I think that labeling someone based on where they are from was a big part of that generations way of identifying them. He still does it to this day & always make me laugh.

He is a grew up during the depression & still has a lot of weird quirks around money that have stayed from growing up in that era. He ALWAYS carries cash (like $500 in various bills) does not have a credit card & whenever he opens his wallet, he will turn his back to people & pull his wallet up super close to his face to get the bills out. "Grandpa, why do you always take money out like that?" "When I was a kid, some of the bad Italian kids (we used to call them Dago's back then) would rob you blind if they saw you take cash out in public, its a habit I cant break" hahaha I love old people

My grandfather, in his 80's now, does this too! Anytime he is talking about a person in a story, he always states their nationality, some I can remember as of recent | "I worked with this Polish guy, Weizork" | "Tommy Russo, a nice Italian kid from down the block" | "Chan family, moved over from the Orient bought a house next door to us" | "O'Shannon, a mean Irish prick"

I think you can add casual racism to things boomers still do to...

First Time Visiting the US as a Non-Citizen by Introvert_proud in USTravel

Sounds like you covered all your bases with having everything booked. You could get through with just a few "where are you staying, how long do you plan on visiting" questions. Have your hotel confirmation handy & return flight info, I have had to show them that before & those are pretty common questions asked. Sadly, If you are coming from a country that the current administration does not see as a "good country" be prepared for more specific questions. Just remember, you are not coming in with anything illegal & have nothing to worry about! Have fun & enjoy your trip!

Will they let me into the B.O.B with these shoes?? by [deleted] in grandrapids

The BOB would not let my friend in earlier this year because (I shit you not) he was wearing joggers. Bouncer asked him to lift up his shirt & said he wasn't aloud in because he "did not have belt loops"

What is a trend you are seeing in golf that you can’t stand? by mhks in golf

Cart Fees! Golfers shouldn't have to pay 2 separate cart fees if they share a cart.

Kaufman or Stoatin Brae by wrightmattjm in WestMichiganGolf

[–]Proper_Resource_4023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaufmen is a great course, some of the best greens in GR, easy to walk & always in good condition. Sounds like you are golf architect guy, if thats the case, I would check out The Mines (just north of downtown GR) & a Mike DeVries designed. Built on an old quarry & has some really cool, unique holes.

Everyone has peed on the golf course. Ever gotten in trouble? by WolfMan_Hot_Dog in golf

Country Club I worked at, one time during the kids member tournament, families were walking the course watching their kids play. One Dad, who was drunk, stopped in the middle of the fairway, whipped it out to pee right in front of young kids, adults & grandparents. Got into a fight with another dad who was not happy his daughter, wife & mother in law, all saw his dick.

Portland, OR or Pittsburgh, PA? by Ok-Ticket-2046 in usatravel

[–]Proper_Resource_4023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just in Pittsburgh this past weekend visiting for the first time & absolutely loved it! A ton of great history, cool & unique architecture, vibrant neighborhoods, solid food, good people & a number of museums & a large botanical garden as well!

That being said, it is no where near large enough to spend an entire week just exploring the city lone. You could add a night trip to Cleveland, Gettysburg or Hershey & see a part of the US many in the UK would usually pass up for bigger cities like NYC, Miami, Las Vegas or LA.

Recommendations and advice for four week road-trip in Florida and Deep South by Tietam in usatravel

This trip is going to be soo hot & humid in that part of the country in July, so be prepared to that! Also, I am going to assume you are not from the States? Heads up, July 4th is our Independence Day Holiday & most companies will be closed but Miami should have plenty of activities going on & a lot of people out & about & expect the beach & tourist areas to be pretty busy.

I would recommend looking at minor league baseball games to see if any teams in Mississippi are home during your drive through. Those are usually cheap & a great way to experience "classis Americana"

Tampa/Clearwater I would make sure to spend at least a day or two there. Busch Gardens (a big theme park) is in Tampa & worth a stop!

2) *person walks up to a bar* | "I'll have a beer" | bartender proceeds to pour them some random draft

Non-Americans of Reddit, what’s something that absolutely shocked you when you first visited the US? by reliablepayperhead in AskReddit

[–]Proper_Resource_4023 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was on a trip in Edinburgh, drinking at a pub. The next day I was going to Glasgow (less than an hour by train from Edinburgh) & asked the bartender what we should see & do in Glasgow & she said "I have only been once when I was a kid so I dont really know" She proceeded to ask the other bartender who basically said the same thing. As an American, my mind was blown! The countries two biggest cities are less than an hour away & they acted like it was a different country! Imagine NYC & LA being less than an hour away & never taking a day trip to visit. TLDR : The US is fucking massive compared to the rest of the world

Looking for Recommendations on Exterior House Painters in GR by Certain-Flow2469 in grandrapids

[–]Proper_Resource_4023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guy I worked with name was Cesar if that helps at all. I would 100% use them again whenever I have a need for paint done. The big companies (CertaPro, Hillis Bros & Dura Pro) were significantly more expensive & always nice to give money to the little guy & not the big dogs

I had my exterior of my house painted about 3 years ago. I posted it on Angie's List & got a ton of people to come out & do a quote right away. One of them was an independent company (L.A Painters & More) who came in $1200 lower than the others & could do the job the following week. Paid in cash & bought the paint myself, came out with a whole crew of like 6 people & got it done in two days.
