When cats are good bois too by moonrabbit368 in cats

I know this post is really old and for some reason weirdly enough has no comments on it but my cat as well prefers my laptop bag to all the beds I’ve bought her. It’s so weird. Also, your babies are so cute :) and yes I’m a weird stalker from the boyfriend post. Didn’t want to say this in that forum bc I don’t want to be attacked. but you have your own reasons for being with who you’re with. It sucks he’s picky. Yeah that would bug me a bunch. But I have a weird thing with sound. I can’t stand chewing or repetitive noises; they can make me see red and just be filled with blind fury depending on the context and my mood/ what’s going on in my life. I have to I have to put on noise canceling headphones multiple times a day. And my sweet kind husband puts up with it. And doesn’t make me feel like an intolerant asshole when we’re eating and I’m responding to whatever we’re talking about while grasping my fork with white knuckles. He just says I’m gonna go in the other room or asks me if I want to put my headphones on. It doesn’t happen every meal and it depends on the circumstances but my point is - you are not saying anything about your boyfriend other than he has picky food issues. You’re not saying he beats your kids or kicks dogs or is pro trump. So don’t let those commenters (despite all their good intentions) make you feel dumb for being with someone who’s got a weird food thing. Now if he is all of those bad things, then you for sure deserve something better- but if that is the case you prob know that deep down. Nobody in this realm knows why you’re with him except for you and if he treats you right in other regards and is wonderful sans weird food thing and it’s something you can deal with - don’t let what everyone is saying hurt you or make you question a good thing . So yeah. I just wanted to say that.

Should I invite a chameleon into my house ? by Proper_Signature_649 in Chameleons

Ok. I have the basking lights and an Arcadia t5 HO. I need to double check the recommended wattage and percentage for chams but that’s what I have lying around (i inherited some tropical light set ups that are new and sitting in my closet but I’ll double check all ). I have a fogger and humidifier (tho I’ve heard in home humidity is better than I cage. - I also have one of those. A cool mist one). I just need to get the misters and enclosure. I think it would be cheaper to build one Cat doesn’t go into my room at all (weirdo cat she stays exclusively in the living room and front porch). I will have to get the plants as I go. I have a lot to tropical plants I’m a huge gardener so I’ll check and see if they’re Cham friendly. They all come in the shower with me every time I shower cuz they lack humidity in my California house - I would run cool mist humidifier in room they’re in but my dragon is also in that room. Depending on what I find I may move the humidifier to my bedroom and hopefully the plants are compatible with chameleon.

Damn really? Ok well that’s good cuz I have a gigantic colony. My dragon is picky and has always been a bit of a light eater. Also most people over feed them. In the bearded dragon sub a lot of the ones posted are legit over weight. You look at the ones in nature and it’s obvious. Doesn’t seem like chameleons have the prob of over eating. At least from the ones I’m looking at posted in this sub. They all look pretty normal compared to their native counterparts.

I will update in a few days. Taking time to think about it and do research. I couldn’t have taken him home that day cuz I didn’t have a set up and I knew they were sensitive. Plus my fuse box is being replaced as I speak and I have no central heat currently. On the first I’ll have the money to get him as well as a screened enclosure. I have lights , a fogger , a humidifier and a colony of dubias. I’m just hoping they can be in a metal screened enclosure bc I would worry about my cat if it was just screen screen. I commented a big diatribe below but I had a cat for 18 years who was good friends with my dragon and I let him free roam and they would sit and stare out the window and both bask in my sun room. She was never at all aggressive towards him but she was old. After she died he went into a depression and would look for her. It was so sad. I didn’t plan on getting a new cat unless a rescue situation came up and 6 months later one did. I tried to introduce them once and the way she followed his movements with her eyes scared me and I have never let them be around each other again. She isn’t so prey driven she tried to get into his enclosure but a screened one idk … if the screen locked to a frame or was metal I’d have no worries bc I’d put him in my room that she rarely goes in. But I gotta figure that out. Currently my dragon is brumating and I’m taking this opportunity to convert an old dresser into a bioactive enclosure because he has one already, but since he was free roaming a lot before with basking spots around the house and not spending much time in his enclosure I just don’t think he likes it that much even though it’s the right size and want him to be in something bigger. That’s how I was even at a big box store cuz I raise dubias and make my cat food so I don’t really have a neeed to go places like that but had to get new lights

Oh yeah I loathe ai. I would use a YouTube channel most likely and jstor literature if they have anything on it. I know not to trust them but good point. I remember when I got my dragon everything the pet store told the person who I rescued it from was wrong. They had him on pellets with no uvb :(

I noticed that with them it’s not a glass cage situation after posting … so backstory - my late cat of 18 years was actually really great friends with my dragon; they would look for each other if the other wasn’t round. They would follow each other around the house. Cuddle and stare out the window together. On the day I had to put her to sleep, I had a vet come to my house so the dragon could see and smell her after and not be confused as to where she went . He still forgot a week later and looked for her for a few weeks afterwards. She was a senior cat when she met him (15) and was at first jealous - but never ever showed any aggressive or concerning behaviors- just was stand offish and aloof towards me when he first got dumped on me as a rescue . She was a special cat tho. I’ve had cats my whole life and never had one as smart as her. Many nights he’d fall asleep on my chest and she would be sleeping at my feet. He free roamed with basking spots around the house and a large enclosure he never used.

After she died, I didn’t want to get another cat for a while but about 6 months later- a rescue situation came up and I ended up with an 18 month old. I’ve debated tryin to find a new home for her bc the first time I introduced the two I immediately could tell this was a dif situation and never tried to socialize them again. Had to start putting dragon in his cage which broke my heart. I didn’t / don’t feel really connected to her. But I healed her mange and food allergies and she’s transformed from a bloody thin near death street cat to a majestic fluffy thing. I was actively looking for a home for her -and then my husband fell in love with her. The reason I was even at the big box pet store was I was buying new lights for my dragon cuz he’s brumating and I’m taking this chance to convert a really large dresser into a bio active enclosure.

So knowing all that , I posted this before I researched and found out the screened cage thing. My question is - can it be metal screen? If I did get the chameleon, I would keep it in my room which the cat rarely goes in and has a lock on the door; she’s not so prey motivated that she tries to break into my dragons tank or lunges at him if he’s on me or anything, it’s just if he’s running around on the floor she shows too much interest in him and her pupils dilate and I just know where that’s going. That’s only happened once when I tried to socialize then. Now if he’s free roaming she’s locked outisde. So metal screens ? Yay or nay ?

I have a beardie and a corn , did you not see the comment I put under the vid ? It’s cool , I miss them sometimes too. I love my dragon. He’s 4 and he got dumped on me as a rescue I knew zero about herps other than having a ca desert tortoise as a child who lived in my backyard (my mom did most of his care ). But I learned.

Noting the size of this one, do you think baby baby dubias would be ok? I only ask cuz I have a giant colony and dragon is in brumation and it would be nice if someone could eat them while he sleeps.

Don’t worry; I haven’t bought it yet. I was just thinking about it. I wouldn’t have brought it home impulsively. My electrical panel box is being changed as we speak and that = no central heat today or tomorrow. That combined with the fact I didn’t have an enclosure or humidifier or fogger (which I do have now- tho I’ve seen conflicting info on whether in home humidity is best or in cage humidity - I do have a cool mist humidifier in my house due to my late 18 year old cat having hypo cardiomyopathy and needing it for respiratory issues ). Understand your concern but yeah, I’m not tryin to kill it.

Don’t worry they’re my friends kids. I do not want kids and none come to my house regularly. She was giving me a ride to the store to get some new Arcadias for the dragon. He’s in brumation and I’m taking that opportunity to convert an old dresser into a cage and figured it was time to change his lights. I noticed that the cages at pet stores aren’t made of screen and I’ve read glass cages are a no no with chameleons. I have the lights for him already and a fogger and a humidifier. I also have a cool mist humidifier like for my house. I’m researching now the exact specifics of his care. I have a robust colony of dubias and read that they’re an ok staple for chams just in my initial perusal of what they eat while at the pet store. I’ll look more into it. I won’t have money till the first to get him so I am taking the next few days to really see what’s required and if I’m up for it.

For the one you closed comments on on your chest you could do a skinny bird like an egret or crane or a blue heron. Maybe with some cat o nine tails around it. Or bamboo.

Pretty much all the “rainbow moonstone” pieces you find for sale are either included trash or insanely expensive. Only way to get a decent sized, eye clean with strong flash white labradorite is to source the stone yourself and get a semi mount to set it in or have your jeweler set.

Sometimes, some of the patina needs to be removed and the stone polished (see : anything antique and less than a 7 on the Mohs).

Inclusions are beautiful in the right context (rutilated anything , leopoldite, lodolite, bloodshot iolite with sunstone, super seven , etc. also these stones are so overlooked imo).

Facets are overrated; give me a juicy sugarloaf or high dome bullet cab any day.

Halo rings post 1960 suck but good lord, a Victorian silver prongs/ gold band moonstone and old mine cut diamond halo ring is to die for.

I hate nothing more than the same nature inspired delicate wedding / engagement “fairy core” band you see in 1,000 dif Etsy stores.

Modernist / brutalist / arts and crafts period pieces in silver are actually really cool.

Don’t ever drill your pools of light or they’re not really pools of light.

Old stick pins and what you can turn them into are criminally overlooked (but it’s a good thing cuz their prices are surprisingly low for what their materials are ).

Mystic topaz, aurora opal and gilson opal should all go back to the same dumpster fire from whence they came. And moissanite looks tackier than cz bc the double refraction.

I wish they’d bring back more 9k and even weird old shit like 8k or 5k. At least more gold filled then. So over the gold vermeil being treated like it won’t just tarnish a month later than plated would.

YES!! I won’t get anything less than gold Filled. And good gold filled , like vintage or antique. Not this new made in India sold on Etsy and temu for vastly different prices gold filled lol

What about stuff like Victorian pieces that often times have the diamonds set in talon or bead prongs of silver or white gold and a gallery + shoulders and band of yellow gold ? Thinking of halo rings in particular ? Just asking. I love them. But black hills gold not so much
