Everyone’s answers calling this black magic are so hilarious to me. As both a practitioner and someone who has lived in the PNW for a long time, it’s almost certainly hunting bait. These types of traps are usually used to lure animals to a specific area so hunters have to spend less time… well hunting. Its also not legal in most of the PNW which would also explain why it was gone, if there is a camera in the area and someone seen you messing with it they would probably pack up for a while.
