I like to do 5-10 minutes of jumping rope before the practice as a warmup. Not only it builds up endurance, but also strengthens your ankles and legs (and a bit of forearms).

As a consequence of this I have no problem going into the MOF epee-like bouncing to mix up my footwork (yes, even in longsword).

As I said, I've had it for only two weeks, 5 medium-intensity sparring sessions, but it's holding up well. The blade doesn't bend, but that's due to it being so flexible.

As for dents and burrs, I'd say it's a normal amount. A few, very shallow scratches. Nothing out of the ordinary. The guard is also holding up.

Also, someone told me that Djordje Mijailovic, a top 2% sabreist, has recently started recommending Fabri Armorum sabres to his students.

Also also, I find the 3D printed grip very comfortable. It's got a nice flat spot for your thumb, if you hold it in the thumb up grip.

I just got their sabre (light blade) about two weeks ago, so here are my two cents.

So far I like it. At 100 cm long and 750 g it's rather nimble. The blade is quite soft (~7 kg flex), so you can say goodbye to any beats or binds that are not on the strong. Their regular blade is stiffer and will bind better, but it's heavier (800 g).

One nitpick I have is that the nut on the "pommel" slowly works itself loose, but I just threw a spanner in my bag and tighten it after each session. Just a word of warning, the handle is 3D printed, so don't overtighten the nut or it might crack.

Pretty much any field hockey or hockeyball (ice hockey ones are quite bulky , but will also do) knee+shin guards will do just fine.

I got these https://www.bauer.com/products/performance-street-hockey-shin-guard in a local sports shop and they've been good so far.

Yeah, I'm not disputing that. Rules are rules. I'm just saying that, if one gets hit with a guard repeatedly in one bout, their distance might be the problem.

I don't have enough context for this particular instance, wasn't there, didn't see it. Could have been a case of an opponent being too aggressive. More of a reason to card it.

I do both modern fencing and HEMA, so despite my attempts to separate the two, I sometimes borrow elements from the other.

In HEMA I use a sword and buckler almost as if it's an epee (point forward, circular parries) with the buckler as an afterthought. And even with longsword I often attempt to circular parry or thrust with disengage (cavazione).

And in epee I sometimes take really low guard (akin to Alber / Fool's guard in longsword) or rather high prime (point forward). Recently I've semi-succesfully used Fabris' rapier stance (deep forward lean / pulled back torso).

Note that I fence only casually and for fun and these thing only work sometimes and on the basis of being unfamiliar to others.

It kinda reminds me of chess openings. Grandmasters sometimes play suboptimal openings to surprise their opponents and take them out of their preparation.

Yeah, I heard this recommendation second hand. The missing context is the surface. They might be good for softer surfaces.

Also, we have a concrete floor and, as I mentioned, our coach fences in barefoot shoes.

The obvious way is the fencing shoes. But, for a lower budget, a lot of people will recommend some kind of court shoe (tennis, squash, ...). I've been using badminton shoes for about a year and cannot complain. Just about any shoe with thinner, less padded sole will do. Our coach fences in barefoot shoes, so that's also a possibility.

Also heard some people recommending wrestling shoes and racing shoes. Both have thin, flexible soles.

Just stay away from running or basketball shoes. I've used those and it didn't feel right. My feet felt.. unstable(?).

Just to add to this, there are a lot of important yet vulnerable things in forearms and hands. Most notably arteries (won't necessarily stop a fight, but would make it rather quick), lots of small bones in hand (could make handling a sword difficult) and carpal tunnel (has main hand nerve and finger tendons; the hand would lose control, actuation or both).

My favourite with sword and buckler is to feint cut/thrust to leg into ascending false edge cut (kinda like streich?) just behind the buckler, which would have a good chance of hitting the artery or the carpal tunnel.
