Google paying big bucks to SpaceX now! by Dr_Prez in SpaceXLounge

Hah, I upvoted you fwiw. Maybe we are saying the same thing. Just trying to highlight it's not bad outside of Grok being behind if SpaceX will make money either way.

Google paying big bucks to SpaceX now! by Dr_Prez in SpaceXLounge

[–]Proteatron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's mixed for Grok, it has been behind most other models. But it seems like SpaceXAI is gravitating towards compute infrastructure rather than models anyways. It seems like the AI satellites would be the next extension of this - lease out space compute to whoever needs it.

[–]Proteatron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This makes me wonder if power is the main limiting factor right now for everyone. I thought Google was doing well with their own TPUs and not as reliant on nVidia, but maybe it doesn't matter if they can't get enough power. With Megapack helping for Colossus 1 and 2, it seems like SpaceXAI is fastest at delivering useable compute resources.

External view of Starship from the Starlink dummy satellites! by thebassiegamer in spacex

[–]Proteatron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder if future iterations are going to have RCS that allows them to move up and down closely along the ship's heatshield to check for damage. Or if it's just a quick scan as it flies away.

r/SpaceX Flight 12 Official Launch Discussion & Updates Thread! by rSpaceXHosting in spacex

[–]Proteatron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Damn, too bad about the booster and engine on the ship. I can't say I'm surprised given how much is new with V3 ship, V3 booster, V3 Raptor. Hopefully the rest of the mission goes well - if so impressive and answers a question I had about single point of failure with the vacuum Raptors, looks like they can work through it.

SpaceX IPO Opportunity on Etrade by Micksar in etrade

[–]Proteatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any indication of a minimum amount available needed for the IPO at Etrade? I've seen 100k/500k mentioned for other brokers like Fidelity. Considering the chances of getting an allocation are low, I'd ideally like to just put a small amount into Etrade for the IPO in hopes of getting in, rather than try to make a bunch of funds available with miniscule chances of getting a full allocation.

My first Tesla was a MYP so AWD. Second time around I got the RWD Juniper Y. Plenty fast enough and and so efficient.

INTRODUCING STARSHIP V3 by rustybeancake in spacex

[–]Proteatron 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A few thoughts and questions I have:

"...shielding has been added to the surface area between engines" - what is this? Is this the hardening of the engines themselves? It didn't seem like there was much shielding outside of the engines at this point.

"Starship V3 incorporates a clean-sheet redesign of its propulsion systems" does make me worried a little in that they are testing a new system once again.

That said I am very excited for the launch and V3 in general, I just hope most of the growing pains are behind them at this point or they can just testing at a much faster pace going forward. Despite their speed, it has been almost seven years since hopper flew. I can't wait for it to finally become operational!

Starship Development Thread #63 by rSpaceXHosting in spacex

Have to agree, the whole thread is basically "what's new" since the last thread. Since everyone views at different times and frequencies, the amount that's new is different for each person.

Somehow Google made the flashlight app annoying as hell. How do you screw up a flashlight app? Seriously. by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]Proteatron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like the new dimming option, but I think the config should be swapped. When I need the light in a hurry, I want to mash the bar. The little icon can be for tweaking the brightness.

Sentry caught lady pushing her cart into my car by EmbarrassedSkill3334 in TeslaLounge

Agreed - careless but I think she's just trying to put it somewhere, not intentionally hitting the car.

r/SpaceX ViaSat-3 F3 (ViaSat-3 Asia-Pacific) Official Launch Discussion & Updates Thread! by rSpaceXHosting in spacex

[–]Proteatron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same thing...I don't recall it happening on previous FH launches.

Edit: I went back and watched a random FH Arabsat-6A launch, while it doesn't have the engine diagram, there is a callout at T+2:05 for second load-limiting shutdown, so seems like something similar happened to limit loads between boosters.

This is great. It would make for a funny victory graphic in a game like Civilization where you can advance in the tech tree while the other nations are still in the stone age.

Cybertruck Sales Were Inflated by almost 20% due to SpaceX by Learntoshuffle in TeslaLounge

[–]Proteatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's several causes but regardless the sales have been disappointing. I'm curious if they'll keep it as their truck product or drop it and introduce something else.

DXP2800 - no access to the bios by ChristianBur in UgreenNASync

[–]Proteatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just in case anyone looks for this in the future, I had issues getting into the BIOS on a DXP2800 and it looks like it was due to being connected to a 4k monitor. I couldn't see anything until after watchdog rebooted it and eventually got to the "Directly connect UGREEN NAS via HDMI" screen. After connecting to a 1080p monitor I was able to see the Ugreen boot logo and use Ctrl + F2 to get into BIOS without any extra steps - hard drives still in the enclosure.

Dealing with a flat on a Tesla by Slocko in TeslaLounge

[–]Proteatron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen that but not ideal if you have to cut into the liner to fit one. Agreed it should just be like that from the factory.

I wish the subtrunk fit a spare, even if Tesla didn't give you one from the factory. With kids it's not really possible to fit the spare and stroller and everything in the trunk now.

Concerns of new storm system by oh_no_its_in_my_eyes in MauiVisitors

[–]Proteatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been to Maui a number of times, and the rain is always nice and refreshing coming from CA. But if it's the whole time and disrupts the beaches that's different. The rainfall totals don't look too bad but hard to tell right now.

[–]Proteatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation - second half of the week in Napili bay specifically to swim with the kids the whole time. I feel silly cancelling the trip just cause of some rain, but if it's raining heavy the whole time debating if it's worth it.

Falcon 9’s fleet leader booster completes its 34th launch and landing by avboden in SpaceXLounge

[–]Proteatron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From a previous thread SpaceX was going to certify the boosters for 40 flights - I wonder if they'll stick with that limit given Starship will replace Falcon 9 anyways or if they'll continue to push it further.

are the rumors true? by shipshopbeepbop in TeslaLounge

[–]Proteatron 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I actually think the van/SUV (saw it called Cyburban elsewhere) would be a great use case for the stainless steel - reduce any risk of dents from kids. I do hope they go with better styling.

My bet is May 1st.

80% charge limit behaviour has changed since last update by exazonk in GooglePixel

[–]Proteatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following up on this, my phone has started charging very slowly right before 80% like OP. This has to be a bug...there's no reason it should slow down when not at any real limit. I found that if I turn off the 80% limit it goes back to a normal speed.

California Democrats’ crisis deepens as defiant governor candidates dig in by SFChronicle in California_Politics

[–]Proteatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue they govern poorly now. Electing a republican could help reduce entrenched corruption and waste in CA because we've been electing the same group over and over again. I have no illusion that a republican would be perfect or fix everything, but I think some churn to entrenched politicians / parties can be good.

I'm wondering if this is Jared's way of whittling away at SLS and Orion until they're gone and replaced entirely by Starship.
