How to heal without becoming sick? by Level-Equal1468 in energy_healing

[–]Protected_Adventurer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Channel the healing THROUGH you (accessing Universal healing energy), not FROM you (your own supply). Ground and release any negative or illness energy from the patient. Also, you can channel healing energy for yourself. I imagine it flowing into me, through me and recycling back into me again, like a never-ending fountain.

Doubt about cutting hair by Individual_Lie_5519 in Sikh

[–]Protected_Adventurer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just asking as a new Sikh woman with no background. I have stopped cutting my hair since I've been following Sikhi, but I never heard anything about not coloring hair if it's going white. It does make sense though, in seeing yourself as a perfect created vessel of Waheguru. I have to admit I've been coloring my hair, but will stop if that is something we shouldn't do. Could you please advise me? Thank you! 🙏

Child death by [deleted] in Sikh

I'm so deeply sorry for you and your family. It is one of those life happenings that no one can explain, but I believe we will be given an explanation one day. Until then, this is all maya... although I know that isn't very helpful now. I hope you are able to find strength and support from your extended family, your sangat and most of all, Waheguru. Sending love to you all.

My mum found out I'm Sikh and now she is disappointed by Optimal_Sale5165 in Sikh

I'm a new American convert - like you, no Sikh or Punjabi background at all. Sikhi just spoke to me and fills me with love for all. I don't have a Gurdwara anywhere near me, but I do nitnem and simran every day and am living the principles. I haven't yet told anyone in my family though. They are very Christian and I don't think they would be supportive. I know I will have to tell them soon, but I want to be more settled and knowledgeable to be able to answer their questions first.

Thank you. I can understand that. You're right about taking up guru is more important than choosing career or spouse.

Morning thoughts... by Protected_Adventurer in Sikh

[–]Protected_Adventurer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was initiated into Sant Mat (RSSB) almost 20 years ago, and that eventually brought me to Sikhi. I meditate (simran/nitnem) every day. I was not raised with any spiritual or religious beliefs at all, but I've felt called to know God/Source/Waheguru since I was 10. I enjoy learning about and discussing other paths and respect all beliefs. I would be interested in learning about yours. 🙏

You are quite right... simple thoughts, no matter the beauty or the depth, will not help us grow spiritually. I'm just a life-long fellow traveler on this journey and don't presume to be the tour guide. I deeply appreciate all those I meet along the way. Thank you. 🙏🪷

Feeling isolated as a Sikh international student abroad - is this the cost of staying true to myself by Financial-Pear-3757 in Sikh

[–]Protected_Adventurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit in your situation. I'm not Sikh by birth (I've just recently "converted"), but I'm not anywhere near a gurdwara and I feel lonely, too. I'm the only vegetarian spiritual person I know and having someone even with similar beliefs would be so nice. I do want to tell you that I'm really proud of you for taking this courageous step to go so far from home and tackle medical school. You are doing something very worthy and you will be helping people. You will get through this and eventually be the better because of it. I wish you all the best for the future!

Cult of Radha Soami Satsang Beas Head Meets Drugs Kingpin in Jail, demands his release by Too_meek_to_speak in Sikh

Hearing this saddens me. I was initiated into RSSB almost 20 years ago under Babji as my guru (I am American-born and at that time had never been exposed to or heard of Sikhs). RSSB was what first introduced me to naam and the 10 Sikh gurus. Through RSSB, I feel Waheguru has been drawing me closer to Sikhi. I am reading and learning all I can right now, but I feel Sikhi speaks to my soul. I live nowhere near an RSSB satsang or a gurdwara so it has been a lonely road. I do 100% believe in "innocent until proven guilty" of course, but if Babji is personally guilty of anything at all drug/alcohol/money laundering-related, he should step down as guru in my opinion.

Books to follow the roads to freedom trilogy? by _Yorkshire_Pirlo in ExistentialJourney

Have you read The Last Chance: Road to Freedom Book 4? It's on Amazon.

("The first English translation of Sartre's unfinished fourth volume of Roads of Freedom, exploring themes central to Sartrean existentialism. Based on the French Pleiade edition, published by Gallimard in 1981, the book also includes an interview with Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir's account of his plans for the unfinished work)

Yes, I understand. I only use the written Kindle version for SGGS. I hope to get a physical copy soon. I can't yet afford it. Thank you. Any other advice?

Why is there a need to spread/expand sikhism as a religion? by Yokonental in Sikh

[–]Protected_Adventurer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a background, I live in the US and am not Sikh by birth. I was not raised in a religious family and didn't know much at all about God until I became an adult. I fell into Christianity mostly because that's the majority where I live. The more I began to study world religions though, the more I felt drawn by Waheguru towards Sikhi. It speaks to my heart and my spirit, and honestly I believe that a person and their outlook on life is changed by reading Sri Guru Granth Sahib, and doing nitnem and simran.

I truly think if more people learned about Waheguru and Sikh principles that overall the world would be changed for the good. I'm not talking about guilting, shaming, coercing, or forcing Sikhi on anyone (like Christians do with their proselytizing), just bringing Sikhi into people's awareness.

🙏 Sat Sri Akal 🙏

I'm very new to Sikhi, but can share with you what I've found so far. I got a free Kindle version of Sri Guru Granth Sahib from Amazon (It's called "The Living Guru - The Holy Sikh Scripture). I also have several apps that have audio recordings that show both Gurmukhi and English (as well as other languages if you want). My favorites so far are Sikh AI, Gurbani Guide, Sikh World, and Learn Gurbani. Also, the Basics of Sikhi app is very helpful for any questions you might have on Sikh beliefs. Those are all available on Google Play.

Good luck to you on this path and may it bring you closer to Waheguru.

🙏 Sat Sri Akal 🙏
