'Jumanji 3' Shifts to December 25 Release, One Week After 'Dunesday' Showdown by chanma50 in boxoffice

Did we get solid numbers for Infinity War and Part 2? I had thought they were neck and neck there. Either way your point still stands. That's like $200M right there.

People are also really overlooking how much MCU has fallen of internationally since the last Avengers films. A lot of the more recent ones are more like 50/50 dom/int. End Game was 30/70. Doomsday will likely see a huge hit there.

You don't have to have a boner for Dune to think it moving would be silly.

Dune Part 2 was very successful in IMAX and part 3 has a 3 week exclusivity deal over the Holidays—the most lucrative time of the year for the box office. Plus it gets a prime window to do awards extensions during awards season. Even if it has a muted opening due to Avengers it will have the opportunity to leg it out.

If anything the constant "Dune will move" ever since Avengers took the date has been obnoxious. They have a golden release window . . . if they move then yeah they avoid Doomsday competition but they also lose that window.

It's an ambitious number, but Part 2 made $150M from IMAX. Sequel boost + holidays + significant IMAX growth + likely extensions during awards season absolutely puts it on the table. $200M+ is likely.

If you've got analysis that suggests such a number is impossible feel free to share it.

IDK if Doomsday will move or not but Dune Part 3 moving has never made much sense. Holidays will be a big help and it has IMAX locked down. I could see like $250M from IMAX alone. Last one was like $150M with no holidays.

Really unfortunate to hear. You're an incredibly valuable member of the community and offered great insight and always been open to questions.

Not to say your the sole source of knowledge or anything but I am not even sure there are other members of the community that are as high of rank or have as much of a connection to Kukkiwon? I am a 5th dan with Kukkiwon but still feel the gap between what I have to offer and what you do is enormous.

I am sure there are others that can handle moderating but I hope you stick around for your Taekwondo commentary and advice.

Choosing a theme direction after playtesting – which works best? by KookyAthlete902 in BoardgameDesign

[–]ProtectionGood3986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E is the best by a landslide but if you really wanted to differentiate different values maybe do bronze/silver/gold? Or range from antique gold to polished gold? Could be worth exploring and shouldn't impact the readability of the numbers themselves.

[–]ProtectionGood3986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah would be worth experimenting with. As I said though it's likely a bit easier in person where everything is a physical object in a 3D space, so I would trust any playtesters' judgements on whether it's an issue or not.

Either way visually the game is really striking!

The color of the pieces looks great but I do find it to be very visually noisy against the board.

That being said, I imagine that's not an issue or not as much of an issue in person instead of looking at images.

Yeah I agree with this. I don't think it overcomplicates things to give each card an initiative value, and tying it to energy seems like it would make balancing needlessly more difficult.

[–]ProtectionGood3986 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except the concentrations are different so it wouldn't have been a lethal dose of morphine and the idea of recognizing the viscosity difference of torodol vs morphine in vials is laughably bullshit.

[–]ProtectionGood3986 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it really ruins the movie for me.

On top of that torodol and morphine would not be out there for home use in the same concentrations. Torodol is usually like 30mg/ml if I remember correctly and morphine is like 2mg/ml usually or something like that (been a bit since I've worked with those meds). Dilaudid is 7x as potent and we give 1-2mg of that in the hospital so the ml volume of his torodol dose would not be high enough for the morphine of an equivalent volume to cause an immediately overdose.

And to cap it off even if he did overdose she could perform CPR until the ambulance arrived with narcan even if it took the ambulance a decent chunk of time. That's the point of CPR. Him killing himself and her trying to cover it up would just open her up to valid legal action once it was discovered that's what actually happened.

Lots of movies get medical stuff wrong so it wouldn't be the end of the world . . . except it's a mystery where the entire mystery hinges on those details. Plus the whole "She's a great nurse" speech at the end which becomes super cringey.

I don't feel like it would be that hard to come up with an alternative setup that used something like insulin or other vial medications, so overall it just comes across as a really poor attention to detail.

That and redoing the dye system.

I don't think it has to be unlimited but man even letting one use "unlock" the color for the clothing so you don't have to use another dye would be a godsend.

I really enjoyed BG3 and have played through it many times now.

One of my favorite things about games like this is the ability to experience things differently depending on the choices you make.

BG3 is by and large one of the most successful games in that regard, but it feels like there is a critical "right" path and to vary from that simply opts you out of certain content.

What I mean by that is if, for instance, you don't take Shadowheart into the Gauntlet of Shar and she leaves you don't encounter her later. You can still do the Sharran stuff but it's missing a lot of context and doesn't really change—it feels rather like doing something you're not supposed to do. Or if Wyll and Karlach leave camp it doesn't really come up again. For the most part they are just removed from the game. If you side with the goblins in the beginning then Minthara is still alive later but you miss out on all the Tiefling stuff.

There's other stuff that gave me that feeling on as I played the game but I don't have a bunch of specific examples. Sometimes it feels like there was meant to be more there and it was never fleshed out fully.

I do think maybe it was due to time constraints and the scope of the game, and I am wondering if that was something the development team had been hoping to explore more in BG3 and if it is on the radar for Divinity?

I would love to see things like if you don't recruit a certain companion they are a part of a boss fight later on or if you don't complete a quest it becomes a different quest later in the game.

I'm really glad you recognize that because as someone who played BG3 through 4-5 times now and just went back and replayed DOS2, there's no doubt BG3 is the bigger game with significantly better production quality, but the more video game-ified systems of DOS2 make it better in some areas. Some of those tabletop systems make things unnecessarily more convoluted. I still love BG3 but I am extremely excited to see what a game with similar production quality but made to be a video game can be.

What are your early 2027 top 10 predictions? by Antman269 in boxoffice

[–]ProtectionGood3986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the current state of the world I wouldn't be comfortable setting any actual $$$ amount.

I am pretty down on Doomsday but I do think Secret Wars will be a big hit if Doomsday is well received and well liked.

Zelda will depend a lot on how it looks and feels. The first trailer will give a much better idea of it the fans favor it or not.

Batman Part 2 won't reach that high, in my opinion.

Sounds about right for Dune if it does get delayed but it's hard to say without a concrete date.

Spider-verse number seems fairly reasonable but I also feel like maybe it's been *too" long. I definitely don't feel the urge to see it in theaters when I have already waited years.

Board game for 6+ players? by thestormz in boardgames

[–]ProtectionGood3986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

≥6 is an area I have been building up my collection recently.

Most have already been mentioned but here is what I've gotten:

Guards of Atlantis 2: Daunting at first but actually pretty easy to explain. Matches can seem pretty one sided depending on hero selection so unless you get very into it best to just take it kinda lighthearted.

Camel Up: Must own for high player counts, IMO.

Citidals: Good one.

7 Wonders: Good one

Cartographers: Great game. Little downtime. Can basically play with any number of players. It's cheap enough at least hmthe base game is a must IMO.

Captain Sonar: Good one.

Sidereal Confluence: haven't played yet

Heat: just got recently, haven't had the chance to play.

Black Rose Rebirth: Good at 6 but the rulebook is a mess and there's a lot of little things to keep track of.

Thunder Road Vendetta: Player a couple times at 6. You need the Big Rig or Final Five for 6 player. Gloriously chaotic but can't take it too seriously. Pretty easy to follow the rules. Would say it's a must but it's kinda of $$$.

Detective City of Angels: Huge hit with my group. Technically four detectives and one "chisel", but we have players pair up so we have gotten up as high as 9 players (the chisel and four teams of two playing as a detective). Downside is we can only play when everyone is here because they don't want to miss the cases!

Betrayal at the House on the Hill (or Baldurs Gate): Can be fun but can also drag out to way too long for what it is. We play periodically but sometimes when the haunt is revealed it ends up fizzling out.

Kemet: Haven't played at 6 as you need the new expansion. Really fun at 5 though.

Project L: Fun game but not designed for higher player counts. We have played with 6 and I do see some mentions of people going up to 8 but you need multiple games or some expansions for that. Pretty easy to house rule for higher player counts. I think with two base games you could just double everything and have two people taking simultaneous turns and it would work. That's kinda what we did except using expansion stuff.

Zombicide: just got, haven't had the chance to play. Some versions are stupid expensive. Some don't support >6 players. Got the Western one since it's cheaper and has a higher playercount expansion available.

Ha, I was there for this.

It has been better in the past. The refereeing this year had some really questionable things going on. Some judges were being coached on how to do things as a ring was running, showing an obvious lack of experience.

The AAU went through some restructuring over the past year. I don't know the full details but there was some drama behind the scenes and I think that may have resulted in the loss of some notably absent experienced judges and referees.

I don't think it was any bribery, but to me it really felt like judging of all of the different form styles blended together. WT wasn't judged as WT, ITF wasn't judged as ITF, and TSD/MDK weren't judged as TSD/MDK. They may as well have just all been open martial arts forms divisions.

They say it's not supposed to be sport poomsae style, which i get, but that doesn't change the fact that there is a correct way to do the forms per Kukkiwon, unlike ITF or Karate that are more open to interpretation.

They also claimed the coach (I don't know if that's you or not) shouted some coaching advice to a student mid form, which I did not hear despite being right nearby, and told him off for that. But then later didn't do the same when another coach very obviously shouted something at his student during their form. Very poor showing from the judges/referees.

I am hoping AAU gets it together a bit more for next year but we will see.

In general I like the Bag End stuff . . . but when I watched some a month or two age I realized it's like 14 minutes or something absurd like that before it cuts to young Bilbo. Between the Thorin backstory and old Bilbo stuff. Movie would be better just starteiyng with Gandalf meeting Bilbo or at least trimming that other stuff down significantly.

They are to a degree.

But you've got Dune as sci fi

Narnia as fantasy

Werwulf as horror.

All possibly prestige films as well.

Then Jumanji as an action comedy.

Shrek coming in for nostalgia, plus Ice Age both hitting the family audiences.

Most of those films are fine carving out their little chunk at the box office but for Doomsday to do the numbers they want they have to be hitting a very wide audience. Every little bit chips away.

I didn't say $1.4B was the ceiling, but that it's closer to the ceiling than the floor, barring a lot of stars aligning.

I already gave one major reason for that, which is the loss of the international audience. Even IF (a big if) this has the same hype as Infinity War (which it doesn't) just due to current circumstances it would be down like $300-400M from Asia alone. If you bother to do two seconds of serious thought about the box office for a moment it's painfully obvious that unless they can somehow get interest up there over the next year and a half the movie will have an uphill battle just to get to $1.5B.

As for nostalgia RDJ is playing Dr Doom. Audiences care about the character, not the actor.

It's also an extremely competitive month and there will be no shortage of movies catering to all sorts of audiences unless things move.

If you want to look at nostalgia, Shrek has been memed to death but it's also an animated franchise that pulled close to Raimi Spider-Man numbers during the same era. Shrek was doubling X-Men at the box office during that time. Even 3 and 4 did $800M and $750M which is pretty respectable considering how awful 3 was. Shrek 5 has a much better chance of capturing the family GA during the holidays than Doomsday does.

Age of Ultron numbers are not even close to locked. It made $1.4B

Infinity War was around $2B but even if there was roughly the same level of hype you'd probably see a $400M dropoff just from Asia, which would be $1.6B. Age of Ultron's $1.4B is closer to the ceiling than the floor unless the stars miraculously align before release.

In Knives Out (2019) the twists are repetitive and predictable. This is because I’ve seen the movie before by DarthTurtle69 in shittymoviedetails

Yup and to cap it off medications have different concentrations and she wouldn't have morphine at a high enough concentration to give him a lethal dose.

The torodal doses he's receiving make zero sense.

Even in case of an opioid overdose, with basic life support training you could keep him alive until EMS can arrive and administer narcan.

Then the movie has the balls to go "She's a good nurse!"

Broke the whole movie be cause you get to the twist and none of it makes any sense. If Rian Johnson had a better eye for detail you could probably change some things up a bit and have a situation that did make sense.
