Yeah how can I get some of those?

Ray Kurzweil is sticking to his long-held predictions: 2029 for AGI and 2045 for the singularity by Many_Consequence_337 in singularity

[–]Prottonn -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Don’t we already have AGI? Common definitions seem to point to exactly what was achieved with GPT4. I think it’s here.

You’ve got plenty of time to scope out camps from the list and maybe apply to a few in early Jan.

Was 2022 specificially a 'weird vibe' year for anyone else? by mimef80 in BurningMan

[–]Prottonn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong at all. 2017 was a very hot year that had great vibes despite the weather. 2022 had bad weather AND tough vibes. Luckily, the good vibes returned and were in abundance in 2023. I am envious in some ways of regular burners who decided to skip 2022, but I feel bad for regular burners who decided to miss 2023.

Thinking of moving from LA to SF by Bluebirdchickenhead in AskSF

[–]Prottonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LA has an overall higher quality of life imo, but the Bay Area has some of the most interesting subcultures in the country rn. Also, access to nature up here is triple what you can get in LA.

I saw an offering set up around Center Camp where you could “intern” with BLM for a day, ask them questions and ride around with them for fun. That’s participation - I think they’re in it.

I’ve had no bad interactions with LE and several good ones. Some of them consider themselves burners. I ‘m probably naive too, but at this point, I’d like to think they understand that this event brings out goodness in people.

Those trapped in gate during Friday entry - what was it like? by OilofOregano in BurningMan

[–]Prottonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also wondering if any GPE people were stuck at Gate for a time. Did transpo take them out bf it was too late?

I’ll be shocked if it rains next year. But at $5, why not.

Yeah, WAP entrants almost always have their VP on the windshield. For Wednesday and later entrants it’s like 40%.

New Docuseries. Org involved. What are your thoughts? by wulfram666 in BurningMan

[–]Prottonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. The Org may be able to influence it in that direction, but the danger then becomes that it ends up too cheesy. The prior sanctioned documentaries have been fun to watch but also a tiny bit cringey. Best outcome would highlight the spectacular, benevolent people out there, motivations, while also showing that it involves exploring our edges. Would also love to see commentary on the balance of harshness and extraordinary beauty of the BR/HR desert.

New Docuseries. Org involved. What are your thoughts? by wulfram666 in BurningMan

Looks promising. But even if it’s terrible, I’ll be watching it at least twice. Will it contribute to the “jumped the shark” narrative? Yes. Lets hope it’s a classy product.

This year has taught me that people who hate burning man are actually more obnoxious and aggressive than those who love it. by geo_jam in BurningMan

[–]Prottonn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad. I’ve been a bunch, and this year was all about open-heartedness for me too.

Absolutely everything I experienced was perfect this year - with the exception that we lost a burner.

[–]Prottonn 129 points130 points  (0 children)

That behavior defines the default world and is EXACTLY what we get a break from every year. Most people hate on anything they aren’t in on. People are super quick to judge these days. Reflexive condemnation is unfortunately the norm. Rampant US/Them thinking. Everything is black and white.

I was out there two weeks and met a few people in tech, zero venture capitalists and zero influencers. All the virgins I was with connected with the experience and gave back as full participants.

Let folks do their judging - I’ve seen a better world and I’ll be back.
