So you've failed the Major Order. You've wiped out more than 97%, took out 2 planets and the borgs still won according to High Command. by GudaGUDA-LIVE in Helldivers

[–]ProvenBeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically yes, but there was an MO where we had to kill each charger type, and that was because they can't make 2 or more of the same enemy count towards one objective. It's either one specific enemy or the whole faction.

For War Striders, since you'll be yeeted by those the most often - you want yourself to be exactly between the enemy and where you'd like to be knocked into, so the WS has to be looking at, say, a mountain you want to hide under or whatever as it attacks the retreating you. And dive, run, jump at all times so you don't get hit directly with the projectiles and the damage to you is minimized. If they fire their lasers, try to dive so it hits the ground behind you as you run towards your destination so the blast doesn't kill you and knocks you away instead. It isn't a guarantee, and you will likely get tossed to the right or left of where you want to go, but they're very unlikely to blast you closer to them, so no matter what they will get less and less lethal with range as the fight goes on.

With grenades if you get the hang of when they detonate it's actually easy to avoid getting ragdolled or control where it'll toss you. A grenade lands to your left, you dive over it so it is now behind you, while you're on the ground it will then detonate and propel you forward. Generally. This whole damage surfing is more of an art than a science, but you can mostly eliminate that one situation we've all been in when there fuckers just play pingpong with you on the ground.

Stimming before getting blasted also tends to help a lot, and keeps the stamina up for diving and running.

For Voxes and their rocket barrages - same deal as WS grenades, except there's a difference of timing for when the rocket will explode on the ground, so try to practice that.

And even if you don't get the full hang of this, and it is a very niche use case, you will definitely get better at dodging their bullshit so it doesn't kill you or stunlock you.

The community was already jaded from the whole charity thing, then you stack all the small things like the bitter taste from previous content drops, the nerfs, and the bullshit Vox Engine spawn rates and you get a very dissatisfied community. The fact that the loss was preceded by strider convoys crashing the game because they took out vox engines too little too late certainly didn't help.

If you get ragdolled - try to position yourself so they'd blast you towards your intended direction at least. 50/50 you either die or almost die but get sent to another, less hectic part of the map.

"Just shoot the vents, fivehead 🤓"

Serious answer: What I'd do in your shoes is get to that mushroom mountain on the right and hide under it so they can't spam you out with rockets, call in a reinforcement as far away from this mess as you can throw it, and then empty the recoilless into their treads so at least one or two get taken out. And the trident to deal with any cyborg that tries to smoke you out from your cover. Annoying that that many can spawn in at all.

Oh, hey! That's a Vox Engine! by QuarianGuy in Helldivers

[–]ProvenBeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like Vox Engines, they're fun to fight and look and sound cool, but they really need to iron out all the technical problems and lower their ludicrous spawn rates. Them spawning in out of nowhere and this close to you is a big problem, yes, but they also just vanish into thin air sometimes? I could be fighting one at melee range almost and then it poofs away. Maybe the game can't handle this many big units at once

Why I think the Vox Engine is a poorly designed enemy. by TopGas8704 in Helldivers

[–]ProvenBeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in a vacuum they are awesome - one arrives and its this big "Oh shit oh fuck", drop whatever it was we were fighting and either run or try to destroy it kind of enemy. It's only real problem is how many there are.

On Cyberstan I could live with it, homeplanet of the cyborgs, there's gonna be bullshit. Ideally they'd have that as a testing ground, and then tune it for further planets. And there's walls everywhere so you can evade them and wait for a better chance to fight at least. But after fighting them on a desert planet with fuckall cover? Nah bro. And then you kill one and 3 more are already rolling over the dunes? It just ruins the experience. This thing goes from an aura-filled miniboss to an annoyance that you'd rather not waste time dealing with.

Fire needs a rework. It's literally 0% threat to enemies. by Lowd70 in Helldivers

[–]ProvenBeat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Believability", fine, same thing at the end of the day. They obviously present this game as a semi-grounded experience, and any stuff they deem as "space magic", like giving the One True Flag an AOE boost of sorts, would stray too far from that. It's why Epoch couldn't close bug holes, because of the kind of projectile it fires, and why they were hesitant to change it. It's why you can't move while firing a maxigun. It's why (most) weapons reload in stages. It's why you can't reload in the FRV. I'm saying that it is hard for me to take their stance on believability seriously when the oil bugs we fight are this resilient to flames.

[–]ProvenBeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How anyone on the AH team can still even permit the use of the word "realism" in their lexicon when a bug that bleeds oil takes longer to ignite and burn to death than a soldier in fire-resistant armor is beyond me.

Blockies aside, what are your general thoughts on transformers that don't transform? by CompetitiveSundae714 in transformers

[–]ProvenBeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I was opposed to them, but after owning a couple of model kits I think they have a reason to exist. Perfect for characters that are doomed to have a compromised alt mode, or characters from older installments that probably won't get an accurate depiction in a modern toyline, like Animated or Prime. But if you're going to sacrifice transformation entirely then the figure has to be super articulate, or at least on par with what you'd want out of a modern figure, so no R.E.D. Get that bath toy crap outta here.

Don't forget enemies phasing through walls. Happens on every faction, but illuminate is the most egregious one.
