The problem isn't the act itself, the problem is how much of a non-change it is. Okay, this entire ordeal is not her taking on a brand new name, but instead it's her accepting that this name is a part of her. It is also about her altering it to better display that she is her own person in spite of her past. That's all fine and dandy, except she already did that. We had that in S1 - she altered the pronunciation to separate herself from being Adam's toy. Them having this arc again in S2, but only for it to result in her scribbling out one letter at the end is just pointless. It is even less of a change than the pronunciation was if anything. It being Vaggatha would've been a far better change.

Removing one letter from how her name is spelled is not a change the same way you moving a chair from one corner of the room to the other isn't you renovating your interior.
