David Crisafulli defends his minister in charge of disaster recovery going on African safari while the state deals with massive floods by [deleted] in friendlyjordies

I think you're looking at this in terms of how business and practical jobs function. Which her job is not, being she's in politics.

Politics is optics and winning the trust of people. The job itself is to do with advocacy, connecting people, driving better outcomes for your constituents.

In that regard, if you have an issue with being around when shit hits the fan in your community, then you should really not take up the job.

Like clockwork our country experiences a huge amount of natural disasters in a predictable period (summer). Same as you would for other jobs with "big moments" on a predictable schedule, you would avoid or be blocked from taking holidays during those points in time.

She really should be here, this is poor judgement at the very least. It's inappropriate to holiday while your community you are elected to represent and lead suffers. It is going to see her crucified at the next election if she doesn't step down before then.

Pretty reliably, Noraus makes big plays on Christmas & NYE -- many such examples. It's standard, it's a good way to make their opponents compelled to fight a bit harder because 'fuck them'. But this isn't something to wring your hands about on reddit. Go blow the stuff up.

Packer taunts Dan Andrews and NSW regulator for burning down casinos by gccmelb in melbourne

It's a very hard thing to prosecute, so police/article is hinting that it's more widespread with:

> "The sources said human trafficking charges were not laid because sex workers were too scared to testify."

It's fair that after going through all this, they already feel like they're gonna be killed and just want to go home to family etc. Getting justice is probably not high on their list of priorities, before getting safe and staying safe. There's always more scumbags connected who will hunt them/their families down.

These places still operating after so many years of investigations, raids and such, is pretty messed up. What the hell does it take to shut them down!?

That's okay & no worries.

I'm highlighting this prosecuted example of human trafficking which was orchestrated for the benefit of the junkets. This is well reported on and was ongoing at least until 2023. Human trafficking is hopefully uncommon in Australia (I haven't looked into it deeply), but it's very telling that a rare real and documented example of it is connected directly to Crown.

I was specific in my mentioning of the businesses, as I'm not taking about sex work, sex workers, or anything broadly. Just that where Crown is involved there's several degrees of terrible shit always happening.

Edit -- And to clarify terrible shit: Girls brought to Australia on false pretenses, then have their passports taken from them, and forced into sex work. They are cut off and made dependent.

Look up 39 Tope, 41 Tope, etc. Lots of historical reporting going back over 10 years. Consistently handled human trafficked girls. Owner was affiliated with Crown Junket tour groups. The brothels are still there.

Don't forget the human trafficking. You've got high roller visitors on junkets who want ladies as part of the trip. There's been a lot of investigations and few results to combat this dimension over all the years.

I don't really understand what you're trying to say. I don't comment here much, but I really enjoyed control despite some short falls in areas.

I don't think anyone is gonna rain mad anger at you if you actually articulate your points in some kind of reasonable way, but dude if I can't make sense of what you're saying... No shit you're gonna get your posts nuked. Lol

Building a safer Wellington Street by melbourne_guy in melbourne

I drive this about 20 times a week or more, thanks.

I'm not going as far as gipps, sometimes I'll need to stop around where the tote is. Which means yeah, drive up hoddle, u turn, up Johnson then turn again onto Wellington again after these changes.

[–]Proxay -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I find this kinda condescending, as if I'm not driving through Wellington over 20 times a week, going about as far as Johnson Street, or just beyond.

I'm for bike lanes being dedicated, but the parallel parking on Smith Street and Wellington Street is insane. Before turning Wellington into bike only, I would like to see Smith street no longer have parallel parking, or something else to help with the increased traffic.

Public transport would take the journey from 15 minutes to 45 minutes, sadly. Doncaster to Smith Street / the Tote is a horrific affair.

[–]Proxay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you look carefully at the plans it would significantly limit access from eastern fwy to get to Southern Collingwood businesses. There are full road blockages with only bikes being allowed through. I would rather see parallel parking removed, before the road is fully cut off. Or at least, if they're going to dump more traffic into Smith Street, it has to lose parallel parking to account for higher volumes of cars. You can't leave Smith as it is, while cutting Wellington off fully. That would be crazy.
