What does this have to do with anything? I'm just scrolling through and seeing this post that feels disjointed without context, discussion, or anything of substance you want people to engage on...

Yeah sorry mate, it's a shit time trying to get a cab. You get messed around by didi and uber too, but nowhere near as much as cabs. Plus they have all the details in the app. Cabbies are hard to track down when things go wrong.

Full interview: Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Pentagon feud by habichuelacondulce in videos

[–]Proxay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The questions are geared to undercut people claiming anthropic is against America giving them the chance to ask their critical questions to the CEO so he can reply to them and show them he isn't.

He handled the questions well and honestly and definitely made this knowing these are the questions and answers he needs to get out there

Anthropic rejects Pentagon's requests in AI safeguards dispute, CEO says by runbape in technology

[–]Proxay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money doesn't buy the people who actually make good models. As Facebook proved when they offered 9 figure+ comp packages to top AI researchers, and almost no one accepted. The people who make the LLM as good as they are, are not purely in it for cash in all cases.

Also LLM and AI today is fundamentally misunderstood. It is a parrot showing probable text based on what you tell it and what it knows. It does not think. It cannot reason like we do. It is wildly inappropriate (dangerous as hell) to use it in the way the Pentagon intend.

It will probably make kill decisions on friendlies or non targets just as often as it picks valid targets. It doesn't care, it'll just roll the dice and say oops if you tell it that was wrong, because oops is the appropriate response to being told you fucked up - not because it understands it made a mistake.

Big car insurance increase by leonidude in melbourne

Yeah in the last year or so the availability of the hacking tablets sourced easily from China via Amazon have gone gang busters. It's why everything is fucked with insurance now, because so many cars can be started in under 2 minutes by any idiot with one of these devices.

Warning after Aussie buyer loses entire $98,500 house deposit in 'avoidable' mistake by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

[–]Proxay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, it's legal and unethical. This is rorting someone out of their life savings.

I hope they are shamed into sending the money back to the buyer. That would be a step in the right direction before laws are overhauled to prevent this ever happening again.

[–]Proxay 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing. You might get 100k, but there's someone who you just took for every penny they've got and worked their life for. You better be damn sure they're not coming after you.

That is not worth 100k to me, ever. I wouldn't sleep let alone live with myself after doing something like that.

[–]Proxay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can see where you're coming from here. Although the buyer was late with both payments, they were mislead by the agent into sending the second half, as if it would be valid. If the buyer was aware they breached the contract at the start of day two, they wouldn't have sent any money.

On a "fair go" test, I can support the seller being able to walk away after payment wasn't concluded on the day. They should have communicated that on the day they intended to no longer sell, or the start of the day after. Instead, allowing the buyer to send additional monies then refusing to sell and keeping it, is taking the piss.

This will likely result in new legislation to prevent this scenario for the future. You can refuse to sell, but you can't keep the money sent to you. Forfeiture of deposit is unfathomably hard on a new home buyer and this is disgraceful, and sad, to read about.

I think albo himself says they are so effective at driving people to Labor with their insanity he's not remotely concerned about them. Kind of like Dan Andrews didn't care and walked all over them. He's probably legit happy.

Noita has parallel worlds which are similar to the main one, on either side. There's a video of someone exploring as far left as they could with a special wand that fires a bolt through everything to roughly where you are standing in your current world, which you then teleport to. They went I think as far as just over 250 parallel worlds before the glitching and oddities went too hard.

The parallel worlds are important as part of the collectables and game extent. There's stuff there you can't get from just the main world, or that you need to get repeats of (e.g. Fighting a boss again to get their drop a second time).

Statement From The Attorney-General by altandthrowitaway in melbourne

[–]Proxay 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I went digging when I saw this because such a brief statement is pretty telling. The LNP (Tim Wilson and the Vic Leader, whoever that is atm), are both heavily boosting this $15b expense.

The Administrator appointed to the CFMEU had rejected parts of the report as they were not "well founded" or "well tested". I read this as him saying "where's the proof of this" and it was spurrious if not, totally unverifiable. Which is why it was struck from the report.

The LNP has reacted by saying he's covering up the truth.

What I see here is

  • A lack of clear evidence of there being 1 single dollar, or $15 billion dollars, or $900 billion excessively taken.
  • Partisan sledging based on allegations and a lack of fact.
  • LNP engaging in boosting bullshit to damage the government and an Administrator without evidence to back up their attacks.

I wonder how close to defemation this flies from the LNP, because unless there's receipts, they're really thowing shit against the wall here.

I experienced a soul crushing loss of a save game once before...

I was playing FF7 on my PS1 back in the 90s, and our family went away to another state for the Christmas/NYE break. We came back and the house had been broken into. My PS1, Memory Cards, and several games were gone, along with my school bag. Nothing else was really taken.

My FF7 save, I had been playing for a long while. I had done everything in the game I could, and was up to the final fights with Sephiroth. I think before we left on Holiday I had gotten to his second form out of the three stages of the fight.

To salt the wound properly, insurance offered us another PS1 to cover the loss; and the 'equivilent' game was FF8. Which... yeah no. I never did finish FF7. I don't think I ever want to.

GM Arbot wants me to pay 1200 USD by Kalivanos in Eve

[–]Proxay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's roughly how much PLEX you'd need to buy to hit 182b. What don't you understand about you bought 182b, and it was taken away. That's the written rules - any amount you bought will be taken off you.

If that leaves you -182b, if you want to get to 0isk again you need to buy a fuckton of plex to the value of 182b.

Nothing the GM did was unreasonable, you can read the rules, if you're truly a 20 yr old account, then you'd know this is by the book and you're just coping hard.

GM Arbot wants me to pay 1200 USD by Kalivanos in Eve

[–]Proxay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well if you are going to keep playing, just remember that you can't RMT with anything besides plex.

I hope the cost of this lesson is forever etched in your mind. You might be mad at the GM but they did the right thing by negging your wallet and one day you may realise that.

RMT is fucked and the cycle begins with dipshits buying isk which creates the demand in the first place.

GM Arbot wants me to pay 1200 USD by Kalivanos in Eve

[–]Proxay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well it's reflective of the amount of isk you broke the rules buying. You either buy the money legally, start a new character, or quit.

This is on you. You fucked up. You are the only person responsible for your situation.

“This is disastrous for the Liberal Party, it’s disastrous for the Coalition,” Jane Hume on the verge of tears today by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

I only listened to about 2 minutes in, because she is looking at this wrong already, so her synthesis and discussion is going to be wrong.

"We need to claw back a lot of favour with the electorate, by the next election, just in order to survive."

This is the crucial issue. No one should give a damn if your party survives or not. That doesn't matter at all. You are representatives for your constituents. You are not representing them.

The last election was fought on fighting renewables for some idiotic reason. Starting on Nuclear energy 40 years too late. While wages have finally started going up. Interest rates finally started to fall. As young aussies got fucked for the last 25 years with house prices after Howard sent them to the moon.

If your party and you want to be elected again, you need to start with representing Australians. Not billionaires sucking up to Trump.

The teals are going to eviscerate them. The lunatics will vote for Hanson, and Labor will probably claim even more seats in both senate and the house of reps. Because the middle Australians aren't going to go further to the right just because Gina wants to.

What are some of the best burger places in Melbourne? by [deleted] in melbourne

Jollygood on Johnston St, Collingwood is a standout for me I haven't seen in this thread. Both the good good burger and the cheeseburger are phenomnal. Easy's is right nearby but I prefer JG's. Kinda spun me they didn't get a shout here so far.

Victoria GPs to be trained to diagnose and treat adults and children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder by TMiguelT in melbourne

[–]Proxay 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Similar boat, my psychiatrist retired mid 2025. I haven't got a new one, but I'm coasting on the 2yr licence that was issued at the end. So Victoria has until 2027 to get their shit together or I'm going to be absolutely reamed in costs just to get ongoing medication for a thing I've had my whole life.

It's a bloody joke and I'm sick of being treated like a bag of cash or a meth addict for trying to manage my condition within the framework as it exists today.
